Haven't We Been Here Before?

Sunnyskip led the way towards Flower Fields, occasionally looking back at her companions. She had been pleasantly surprised to hear that Ashfall would be joining her, and she was uncertain how she felt about Lilacstar joining her. Dawnhawk's recent reveal of his true self had made her emotions a mess, she still hadn't been able to fully work through all of it. She had spent most nights curled alone just within the tunnels of WindClan's territory, staring up at the silent stars above and hoping for some form of guidance that never came. She had never felt so alone, but today's patrol lessened that feeling even just a little bit. The flowers in the field were at full bloom ad they reached it, and she smiled weakly to her leader and her daughter. "Good luck hunting, you two." She mewed softly, her voice weak from lack of use recently.

Lilacstar returned Sunnyskip's smile, although she had no idea what she would say to either her or Ashfall. Nightwind's reveal was shocking to everyone, but she knew that no cat had been more hurt than his mate and kits. She wanted to comfort her Clanmates, but how was she supposed to do that? What could she possibly say to them to help in a position that she herself had never been in? The answer was nothing. There was nothing she could say to make this any easier. So instead, she touched both of their shoulders with her tail, the most comfort she could offer, before going off to hunt.

It was not long before she spotted a couple of hares nibbling on some of the flowers, and she began to creep forward. With a leap, she was able to quickly dispatch one of the hares, but as the other one darted off, it decided to seek out the comfort of a goose.

Great, yeah, this is perfect. Just perfect.

The hare seemed to be taunting her with its beady little eyes, so proud of itself, probably thinking it was so smart. Just daring her to come after it. Well, challenge accepted. The goose needed to be dealt with, anyway.

Rushing forward and rearing up on her back legs, clawing wildly at the goose. Clearly angered, it let out an obnoxious honk, bringing its beak down on Lilacstar's head. With a hiss, she leaped back, glaring the avian down. So this was how it was going to be?

She bet that stupid hare was probably laughing at her right about now.

Ashfall had hesitated to join a patrol with her mother and had been unnerved when she heard Lilacstar would be joining them. There had just been so much... and Lilacstar's decision to allow Dawnhawk to stay had made her unsure of her judgment. Second chances were one thing, but purposeful murder twice? Did Skyclan not deserve their justice? Then there was Sunnyskip, who Ashfall was unsure about how she felt about... all of it. Dawnhawk, Skyclan... and the kits she had with him. Did she still... love them as much as she had before? Or was there something about having kits with a liar and murderer that could've made her feel as if that could've been passed down, that they were corrupted in some way. She couldn't help but think of all the possibilities, it was practically all she did these days. When she wasn't patrolling to stay away from Dawnhawk, she would sit in camp and just watch, and think. At least this was an opportunity to think less.

When her mother smiled at her, wishing her a good hunt, she couldn't help but just stare for a moment. Ashfall then blinked slowly, dipped her head, and bounded off in a different direction amongst the flowers. Maybe she could bring some to Sunnyskip one day, an act of kindness? Despite her ideas of what her mother could possibly view her as, she still loved her, and maybe she'd appreciate it. Putting those thoughts aside, she scented a rabbit a short distance away. Dropping into the hunter's crouch, she moved toward it with intent. It was a simple catch. All she did was move toward it quietly, then leap and dispatch it. It had been harder to see within the flowers, but that had worked to Ashfall's advantage as well.

As she buried the rabbit, Ashfall's ears swiveled to the sounds of a goose. The honks were loud, and angry. Looking over, she spotted Lilacstar in combat with the white-feathered bird. Why was it even there? Abandoning the rabbit in the partially filled hole, Ashfall dashed over toward the goose. With her momentum, she slid under the bird, clawing its belly with her hind legs, before rolling back to her paws and jumping back to a defensive position.

Ashfall caught a rabbit, using 3 stamina! Ashfall used Half-Turn Belly Rake, dealing 11 damage and using 20 stamina!

All of them had been quiet, a silence that Sunnyskip simultaneously enjoyed and hated. She felt they had so much to talk about... Yet none of them seemed to have gathered the courage to do so. Herself included. Ashfall stared at her for a heartbeat longer than usual, and Sunnyskip felt herself leaning forward, hoping for words that never came. As her daughter dipped her head and bounded away, she tried to ignore the yawning hole that had opened in her chest as she watched Ashfall's tail disappear among the flower stems. Lilacstar had also moved away with a touch of her tail to her shoulder, so Sunnyskip turned in a different direction and padded away, paws heavy with regret, fear, and worry. Sudden movement just within the stems made her pause, and she opened her mouth slightly. A grouse. Her heart clenched painfully, and she debated ignoring it or not... But the thought of a hungry clan at camp made her swallow her pain and drop into a crouch, creeping up on the unsuspecting bird. As she got within ranged, she jumped forward, pinning the bird under her paws and with a swift bite to it's neck it fell limp, and she stared at it. Tears welled in her vision as memories surged forward, and a quiet sob left her throat, a sob that was interrupted by furious honking. With a jolt, Sunnyskip abandoned the grouse and ran towards the sound, had Ashfall been harmed? What happened? Bursting through the flowers, she saw the goose flapping wildly at Lilacstar as Ashfall stood up from attacking the belly of the large bird. Relief filled her as she unsheathed her claws and she shook the tears out of her eyes as she launched her own attack. She lashed out with a paw, and upon seeing the goose still standing, she lashed out with her other paw, feeling it smack firmly on the goose's head as it fell to the ground unmoving. She blinked down at it for a few heartbeats, breathing heavily, before turning to look for Ashfall. "Ashfall? Are you alright? Did you get hurt?" She asked, eyes searching over her daughter's body for injuries.
