A heron takes flight (closed for Heronpaw)

Nightwolf skipped out of his den, heading towards the apprentice's den. It was a little late in the morning, with sunhigh only two hours away, but he wanted Heronpaw to be able to sleep a bit longer. Plus sunningrocks was always a lot nicer in when there's a bright sun, but that's just his opinion. Nightwolf peered inside the apprentice's den, as he noticed Heronpaw, and padded towards the apprentice. "Time for training." He said, his voice a bit loud. It wouldn't disturb most of the apprentices though, seeing as how most of the apprentices weren't even in the den, and were out training with their mentors. And soon Nightwolf and Heronpaw would join them.

Heronpaw stretched before getting up to see her mentor. ”Good morning, Nightwolf,” she said, getting up for training. Honestly, she wondered how she would do in her first day. As long as she worked hard, she would certainly come out of it better than she was before, which was comforting to say the least. But to say that she wasn’t nervous at all... well, that was certainly not true.

Still, she was going to go here, and she was going to do her best. Even though she was curious, she didn’t really need to ask the tom where they were going, as she knew that he’d tell her later, or that she’d find out when they got there. ”I’m ready to go train,” she said, giving her mentor a determined look.

Nightwolf nodded. "Ok! Follow me!" He said, a smile on his maw. He then padded out of camp, and walked through the territory, looking back ever so often at Heronpaw, checking to see if she was doing alright. Finally, after quite a bit of traveling through the territory they made it. They made to Sunning Rocks, one of his go to places when it came to training apprentices, or to just hang about.

"Ok this is the place! We're gonna practice hunting here!" Nightwolf mewed in delight.

Heronpaw briskly followed Nightwolf to where they were going to hunt. The territory seemed bigger than she ever thought it was, and it made the she-cat star at it amazedly. She also appreciated Nightwolf’s constant checking on her, so she didn’t fall too far behind. It’s obvious he cares about my well-being.

Eventually, the two of them swam through the river to reach the other side of the bank, where a bunch of large, flat stones that reflected the bright sun easily lay. Wasn’t that what the elders called Sunningrocks? She had only heard about this part of the territory from stories, so seeing it with her own two eyes on her first day was a surprise. ”Cool!” the silver she-cat said, smiling at her mentor. ”Just out of curiosity, how do you hunt?”

"How do you hunt? Oh well its pretty easy! For fishing your crouch down near the water, and wait for a fish to swim close by. Then you either swipe at it, and throw it onto land, or you grab it with your mouth! As for land hunting, you crouch down, and you stalk veryyyy quietly, and then leap and pin it down, and bite on it's neck!" Nightwolf explained, his voice enthusastic. "Do you want me to demonstrate, or do ya wanna try on your own?" He asked, tilting his head as he did so.

Heronpaw intently listened to Nightwolf’s explanation. It was very interesting understanding the different ways to catch land prey and fish. It seemed like a good enough explanation for her to be able to hunt either of them, so she responded to her mentor accordingly. ”I’d like to try it on my own first, and then you can tell me what I did right or wrong after.”

Sitting down near the river, the silver she-cat waited for a cluster of fish to appear. Of course, the she-cat was standing tall, where her shadow could alert the fish to her presence. But she assumed that if she waited long enough, fish would appear. The silver she-cat was as motionless as possible before noticing some fish begin swimming by. She swiped at the fish, attempting to get it on shore. The scaly fish probably didn’t expect her to launch it out of the water like she did. Biting its head off to make it stop flopping, she turned to Nightwolf. ”Did I do well? Was there anything I needed to improve on?”
