Sunny Side Up [open to apprentices!] [EGG HUNT]

ooc: This will be an unorthodox hunting patrol! WindClan apprentices will sometimes play a game in the springtime where they attempt to steal eggs from the nests of birds on the moor, specifically grouse and quail. If you manage to steal an egg (without getting pecked) and get it back to "base" without breaking the egg in your mouth, congrats! You win! Enjoy your bragging rights. We will use the BIRD hunting dice numbers for this patrol, and a 10 will still cause a predator encounter... we're not then only ones looking for an easy meal today. I'm capping this at 4 apprentices (including Ryepaw) so we can keep things moving, and everyone will get 3 dice rolls before we determine the winner. If we trigger a predator encounter, game over! Nobody wants to keep chasing eggs after getting heckled by an eagle. Good luck!

Ryepaw trotted out ahead of his companions, looking over the ridge to view the gaggle of grouse collecting in the heather just below them. His yellow eyes darted to and fro, seeking out the gleaming whites and browns of eggs in nests. A few of the grouse were sitting, ruffling their feathers in the breeze. Pollen collected on their brownish bodies. "I knew it!" he whispered. "They've got eggs!"

He whirled around. The group of 'paws had been sent off from the rest of the patrol to practice on their own, and Ryepaw, being himself, was quite alright to charge in front and look for mischief. An egg hunt, technically speaking, was practice. It just wasn't the kind of practice that Fawnstep probably had in mind. Ryepaw was beginning to thin out at last, his body morphing to accommodate his new lifestyle, but he was still very short-winded. His endurance needed plenty of work. Suffice it to say, Ryepaw was not fond of that kind of training, which made his lungs burn and eyes ache as the wind battered them. This would be plenty fun, and the short burst needed to scale the ridge with an egg in his jaws would be just fine for his abilities.

And the other apprentices, after a long morning of patrols, training, and lessons, desperately waiting for sunhigh to come so that they could return to camp and share tongues, might like a game as well. "Okay, everyone's gonna get three tries. You sneak down, steal an egg, and run back up the hill as fast as you can. If you don't get pecked, and you don't break the egg, you keep it on your pile. The apprentice with the most eggs at the end wins, and they can keep one to eat. The rest gotta go on the fresh-kill pile for the kits and elders. Who's playin'?"

“Definitely me!” Goldenpaw meowed, eyes shining at the thought of taking home a tasty snack and extra bragging rights. Honeyheart would be proud, too, and maybe Goldenpaw would be allowed to run around the territory all by herself! Ok, that last part probably wouldn’t happen, but the cream and ginger she-cat could dream. Her tail lifted into the air in excitement, and she crouched to eye the nest over the hill. She could almost taste them now - despite not knowing what eggs tasted like yet. “I bet they taste like victory!” Goldenpaw mumbled to herself, feeling impatient for the two other apprentices to agree.

Ashpaw looked at her brother for a moment, cocking her head in confusion. "Eggs?" The apprentice hummed in indecision for a moment before continuing, "Ok, sure why not." She stepped closer to the edge of the hill they were on, getting a better view of the birds below. Those birds were pretty fat looking, but it was unlikely they'd catch them, they could just fly away. Knowing that eggs were probably not what was expected of apprentices to bring back, this whole thing felt like a bad idea somehow, but Ashpaw couldn't actually pinpoint how it really was a bad idea, so she may as well have some fun. Besides, this would let her spend some time with Ryepaw, who she had been meaning to patrol with at some point. This... unique way of it seemed right somehow.
