Ooc: takes place a couple nights before Softbreeze steps down, and a night after and still we stand

"Softbreeze, Softbreeze."

"Wh..who are you?"

"Shh. You'll wake Smallbean. Fear not, I'm a friend. My name is Whisperthistle."

"How do I know I can trust you?"

"You'll have to trust your gut. Come with me, we can speak."

"Where are we going?"

"The flower fields, of course. They make you happy."

"How do you know that?"

"I care about you. Any cat who's known you for over a sunrise should know that. You're hurting, Softbreeze."

"..."

"Come."

"Well, we're here now. What do you want?"

"I want you to be happy!"

"..."

"You should really talk to some cat, Softbreeze."

"I'm talking to you, aren't I?"

"Not truly. You go silent whenever you don't want to answer my questions."

"...hmphf."

"My point, Softy~"

"Well, just spit it out already! I don't have until sundown, you know."

"You should really smile more."

"And why would I?"

"You have a nice smile."

"What good is that if there's nothing to smile about?"

"What do you mean? There's plenty to smile about."

"Oh? Please, enlighten me."

"There's no need for snark. The sky is blue, the birds are chirping, the flowers are blooming, and you're breathing. That's four things and I haven't even had to think very hard.

"Yes, well, I quite wish I wasn't at times."

"Don't speak like that."

"And why not?"

"Because a lot of cats would miss you."

"Olivestar and Morningdove clearly didn't. They didn't even say goodbye!"

"That's not true."

"Isn't it?"

"No! Think about all the good times you shared with them. Did those truly mean so little?"

"Not to me, but clearly it did to them!"

"And why is that?"

"Because they left me without a second thought!"

"I killed Da... Olive and Morning left me as if I meant nothing to them, Lilacstar clearly thinks I'm incompetent, and every cat looks at me as if I'd simply shatter if they so much as breathed in my general vicinity!"

"..."

"And even Aspenheart is telling to step down. I've failed everything! And everyone! I've made complete disasters out of everything and I've broken the medicine cat code by falling in love twice! I'm the worst cat alive and every cat knows it! I've tried my very best, StarClan knows I have but it always goes wrong! All I do is make everything worse no matter how hard I try. And why aren't you saying anything!? You wouldn't shut up earlier!"

"I was letting you get it out. Do you feel a bit better?"

"No, I feel awful! Talking about my misery doesn't make me feel better, it just makes me sad!"

"Then let's speak happy things."

"What? That doesn't even make sense!"

"Well, if speaking about sad things makes you sad, then speaking about happy things should make you happy."

"How about we just not speak at all!"

"Alright then."

"..- ARGh--! You are the most infuriating cat I've ever met! You're almost as bad as Nerio!"

"Then I suppose that means you like me."

"What?! No! You're so aggravating and- and understanding! Stop agreeing to everything, it's annoying!"

"I can't tell if you're mocking me or being serious.

"Perhaps both, perhaps neither."

"Do not start speaking in riddles or I'm walking back to camp."

"..Are.. Are you serious..?"

"I made you laugh, didn't I?"

"W-what? No.. I was... Clearing my throat."

"I like you, Softbreeze. I think you like me, too."

"...Well, maybe just a little. Hey-- no, don't look at me like that! We are not friends."

"You're my friend. I wouldn't care about you if you weren't."

"..No, we aren't friends. It's best for you that we aren't. Every cat I love gets hurt, so it's better that we aren't friends."

"I'd be your friend even if I died because of it. It's nearly morning, Downtuft will fret, we should head back."

"Yes, we should.."

"..."

"Oh, and Whisperthistle?"

"Yes?"
