Admiral's Apprentice Ceremony

This time, Batbite stood in front of the Highrock rather than on top of it. As the new reality of her day-to-day started to feel more and more routine, she found herself looking for even little ways to keep things interesting. "ThunderClan! Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather before the Highrock for a Clan meeting!"

It was only a minor variation in form and phrasing, nothing too drastic. No, today's matter of interest concerned the subject of this ceremony more than the ceremony itself. Traditions were traditions, more or less unchanged through the generations, but each cat subjected to them was a little different from the last.

Admiral slipped out of the den where he was sleeping in, looking like a flame for all of the world to see. He held his head high as he knew today was going to be the day that he was going to become part of Thunderclan.

"Admiral," Batbite called once her gaze had settled on the subject of today's ceremony, resisting the urge to twist the name around on her tongue; names that defied their own conventions were always interesting, in their own ways. "You have made the decision to join the ranks of ThunderClan. In accordance with our own traditions, and to help you learn the ways of the forest, Minkstream will be your mentor until you have adjusted to our way of life."

It felt a little bit strange, to call her mate's name from where she stood now - and she wasn't particularly happy about layering more responsibility on him - but hopefully helping an outsider adjust to ThunderClan wouldn't be too much extra work. At the very least, she was assuming Admiral could hunt and at least sort of defend himself, and that took a weight off her mind if nothing else.

Well, this was going to be interesting. Minkstream stepped forward as Batbite announced him as the tom's mentor. Wasn't this the loner that sandy-ginger kit had brought in? Hazy memories surfaced as he padded up to the fiery black newcomer - he had a feeling they hadn't really gotten off on the right foot. Great.

Giving a slight nod to him, he touched the other's nose with his own, trusting that Bat had explained the whole process of the ceremony and its traditions to the former loner. And that he had a better memory than Minkstream. Felt a little odd, doing that with a grown cat instead of a bubbly kit just out of the nursery, but, well, tradition. "I'll take you out first thing tomorrow to tour the territory, see how well you hunt; that sort of thing."

If I remember. He'd have to tell Bat before he forgot so that she could kick him out of the nest at dawn. But otherwise he could do this - he had to be able to.

Admiral touched his nose back to his new 'mentor'. "Yes, that sounds about right." he said with a smile. Although Minkstream and himself hadn't really gotten off to the best start in history he would make due with what he had been assigned. After all, he was a grown cat so he could basically do whatever he wanted to do, as long as he followed the orders of his 'mentor'.
