Subject: Feast for Crows [Rainpaw] Sun 17 Jan 2021 - 12:11
The moon was just starting to rise above the trees as Mistyfalcon approached the apprentice den. Having an apprentice had proven to be interesting, and a test, of sorts. Yet Mistyfalcon found himself enjoying having something to do that wasn't just thoughtless hunting and patrolling. There was something almost gratifying about passing on his own knowledge to the apprentice. Rainpaw had proven to be a quick learner, and was enthusiastic about training. Mistyfalcon was an aloof cat by nature, but there was something oddly refreshing about spending time around someone who was decidedly not as quiet and reserved as he usually was.
"Rainpaw," Mistyfalcon called softly into the apprentice den before retreating a few paces to wait for his apprentice. The brown tabby didn't take long to make his way out of the den.
"We'll do some hunting, tonight. The fresh-kill pile is low." There was a slight edge to Mistyfalcon's voice, as he shot the Asylum cat creeping towards them a particularly unfriendly glare. They were quick to follow the warriors and apprentices around, but as far as Mistyfalcon could tell they never actually helped hunting patrols or fought predators.
Well, there had been Rookpaw's mentor, who had died protecting Freckleface. But Mistyfalcon had never seen any of the other actually helping when he was out patrolling. So it was up to the real Shadowclanners to actually stock the fresh-kill pile.
Turning, he flicked his tail, leading Rainpaw out of camp. Hunting might be enough to take his mind off of the steadily-rising irritation with their Asylum 'friends' for the moment.
((OOC: Okay so, I'll be spawning and rping the predator in my next post. Be sure to read the Battle System page, and note that the Shadowclan passive skill Night Finesse will be active. It grants +2 damage to all attacks.))

The night was still young, but the apprentice had already found himself nestled inside of his comfy moss nest soundly asleep. Rainpaw did not hear Mistyfalcon call out to him, but luckily another apprentice did. And since Rainpaw did not bother to get up, the other apprentice gave him a whack with his tail to wake him. Rainpaw wasn't to happy with the rude awakening, but was glad that someone was kind enough to wake him up. The apprentice groggily followed after Mistyfalcon, his eyes still filled with drowsiness.
The apprentice quickly stretched his body, in attempt to feel more awake. It did help him somewhat feel more awake, but he was still tired. With a quick glance towards the fresh kill pile the apprentice nodded in agreement. "We'll make the pile very high tonight!" He meowed somewhat eagerly.
Rainpaw noticed that Mistyfalcon once again seemed to be on edge, his head tilted in concern as he followed after his mentor. The apprentice did not really show any concern for aslyum cats, Flintstar didn't seem to be concerned, so he felt no fear. Feeling the tension in the nights chilly air Rainpaw decided to strike up a conversation. "So what do you think we'll be able to get tonight?" " He was curious to know if there was other prey then mouse lurking about in leafbare.

"Frogs, lizards and toads tend to be more scarce in leafbare. Our best bet are rodents; voles and mice. Hares and rabbits are tricky to catch and we're not Windclan, but they'll feed more than mice will." He responded to his apprentice's question. So far they had mostly caught mice, other forms of prey had made themselves scarcer than usual with all of the snow and the bitter winds that howled through the trees.
As if on that thought, a pale, moving form caught Mistyfalcon's gaze. The warrior slid into a crouch, dark eyes watching the hare as he spoke quietly to the apprentice.
"With any luck I'll catch that hare..." With that, the dark-furred tom crept towards his unsuspecting prey...
Only for the rush of feathers as he leapt for it. Talons sliced the fur and skin across his back, and Mistyfalcon hissed, twisting to face the owl that had decided to go for him. The hare vanished into the snow, no doubt grateful that it had escaped certain death.
"Guess we're bringing back an owl. Rainpaw, avoid the talons! Go for the belly if you can." Mistyfalcon twisted then, teeth snapping for the base of the owl's wing. Grounding the creature would make the fight go easier. With a firm grip, Mistyfalcon reared up, slashing at the owl with unsheathed claws.
Owl used Talon Strike on Mistyfalcon for -10 sp, dealing -10 damage. Mistyfalcon used Teeth Grip on owl for -20 sp, dealing -10 damage. Owl cannot attack and takes damage for THREE turns. Night Finesse active, +2 to all attacks.
