Bonding with a Great Uncle

Maplewhisker was excited for yet another hunt.  She was looking foreword to this one especially because she got to hunt with her great uncle, Downtuft.  She had barely spent time with him, and wanted to get to know him more.  She knew that his sour attitude made most cats not want to be around him, but Maplewhisker believed that deep down, Downtuft was just kind of lonely.  She didn't think the tom had many friends, but neither did she, so this was a good opportunity.  She padded over to the warriors den and poked her face inside.  "Downtuft!" she called to him, "are you ready for our hunting patrol?"

After Maplewhisker made sure that he was following her, she headed out of camp and up onto the moor.  A cool summer breeze ruffled her fur, making the blazing summer sun a little bit more tolerable.  She followed the usual trail to a good hunting location, and sat down in the shade of a small gorse bush, waiting for Downtuft to catch up.  Maplewhisker lifted her nose and a wave of scents washed over her, all of which were prey, luckily.  it was going to be a good hunting day.

Downtuft wasn't asleep when Maplewhisker called to him; in fact he wasn't even in the warriors den. "Uh, I'm right here?" He called confused, staring over at his right towards Maplewhisker. Shrugging at the caramel she-cat, he followed her, lifting his muzzle to the sky, mouth partly opened.

A movement caught his eye and Downtuft wasted no time in sprinting towards it before the creature had a chance to escape. The fat hare, clearly taken aback let one squeal of horror before accepting its fate, falling limp at the broad warrior delivered the death blow, picking the dead creature up with care and padding over to the familiar chocolate pelt of his Clanmate.

Mouth muffled by fur, he boastingly puffed his chest out, "Bet you can't go that fast and still catch it!" The sandy warrior challenged, competition blazin his emerald eyes as he smirked, hoping to rifle Maplewhisker and ruffle her pelt-- in a friendly rivalry sort of way.

Maplewhisker watched as Downtuft darted out of sight through the undergrowth, in pursuit of prey.  He came back with a triumphant look in his eyes and a hare dangling from his jaws.  He had done well catching it.  "Good catch!" she congratulated him.

As Downtuft challenged her, his mew was bursting with pride and boastfulness.  She felt happy for him, but wasn't going to let the challenge go unanswered.  "I bet I can!" She replied, determination glittering in her amber-brown eyes.  She lifted her head high into the air, letting the scents of the moor wash over her.  She detected a hare within a good distance.  She stalked it, silent as she could be.  She quickly darted after it, paws pounding on the dry soil.

Maplewhisker quickly dispatched the hare and came bounding back to Downtuft.  "How was that for fast?" she asked him mischievously.

Downtuft had to admit, Maplewhisker's speed was impressive. But he wasn't about to let her outdo him, oh no. "You're not half bad, too bad I'm still better!" He mused, teasing as he smirked, sticking out his tongue at her. With a cheeky grin he took off. Sandy paws dashing through the heather, he stopped, scenting the air, now a good couple of foxlengths away from the smooth pelted molly.

Spotting a rabbit, he leaped, but fell short as a stronger, more urgent scent filled his nose. The rabbit, scenting and hearing the cat, dashed away, but the prey was all but forgotten as he spun around. His fears were confirmed. "Maplewhisker! Goose! Behi--" Downtuft cut off as the goose picked her up by the scruff, shaking her like a kit and tossing her aside like prey. That would leave any cat dazed. With an infuriated yowl, Downtuft launched himself at the beast.

"Don't you touch my kin, you fat dove!" He hissed, leaping atop it and pinning it down.

Downtuft attempted to catch a rabbit! Attempt was unsuccessful as he scented a goose! -6 [3 + 3 from previous post] SP!
Goose used Beaked Thrust on Maplewhisker, dealing TWENTY DAMAGE and costing FOURTY SP!
Downtuft used Leap-and-Hold on Goose! It deals EIGHT DAMAGE and costs TEN SP! Goose is STUNNED for TWO turns!

Maplewhisker watched Downtuft dart off once again, in viewing distance.  She watched as the rabbit darted just beyond his grasp.   She was so intent watching Downtuft that she didn't notice the goose creeping up behind her.  maplewhisker barely heard Downtuft's warning before she was quickly grabbed and thrust into the air.  

At once Downtuft threw himself onto the goose, giving Maplewhisker the chance to break away.  She stood for a moment, dazed and catching her breath, before she ran forward to help fight off the goose.  Downtuft had it pinned down.

Maplewhisker darted up to the goose, rearing back onto her hind legs.  She slashed out with her claws, relived to feel them sinking into the goose's flesh.  The warm stickiness of blood sprayed her face, spewing from where her claws had just been.  She landed back onto her front paws, satisfied by the goose's honks of pain. She kept herself prepared, for the fire of battle was still evident in it's eyes.

Maplewhisker used Rear Up to Slash, costing 15 SP and dealing 11 HP.  The Goose is stunned for 1 more turn.

Downtuft nodded in gratitude to Maplewhisker, almost unnoticeably looking over her pelt for wounds, glad to find nothing serious. "I guess your goose buddies didn't warn you cats have claws!" The sandy ginger tom hissed, stilling pinning down the goose.

The goose, still pinned, honked angrily, regretting its decision to try hunting along the moors today.

Downtuft continues using leap-and hold! It deals EIGHT damage and costs TEN SP! The Goose is STUNNED for ONE more turn!
