Assigning herself to patrols always made Wildflower feel disdainful, or overbearing. But this was her new life until she became leader, which was definitely not something she was going to think about. The responsibility of deputy already weighed down heavily enough on her shoulders. Speaking at gathering, being the primary face of a Clan, nine lives - organizing patrols and assigning apprentices was enough for her, thanks. And she had yet to do an apprentice ceremony. It only made her more anxious that she would mess something up during it. The speckled molly’s limbs were delicately arranged in a pile underneath her curled up form. It was time to face the day, not mope about something that should have been nothing but exciting.

Sunlight drifted down her pelt in warm rays. Wildflower rolled her shoulders backwards and rose. Her legs stretched in turn as her tail curled out behind her. The young deputy’s pale eyes opened, unseeing orbs aimed straight at the sun. She was vaguely aware of shadows and light, but they didn’t vary much. The darkest night and brightest sun would be  only a few shades apart. Wildflower turned and picked her way over nests, finding Downtuft’s sleeping form. She cleared her throat and murmured, “Downtuft, time to get up.” Raising her voice in case he hadn’t heard, she added, “Meet me at the entrance for our border patrol.”

It was a nice day, albeit early. Wildflower was looking forward to an easy morning patrol, maybe some hunting on the way back, another patrol or two later in the day. Maybe she’d go to the nursery and check on the kits. Six moons passed by quickly, and she wanted to make sure she would hold apprentice ceremonies at the correct times. The day was full of possibility.

To say Downtuft didn't take well to orders was an understatement. Wildflower, being younger than him, was not who he'd been expecting to become deputy; young, inexperienced, quiet, and generally not assertive or authoritative. Zinnia, Dappleshine, Goldengale, or even Morningdove, had she been awake. WindClan knew first-paw how wonderful a leader Morningdove could be, after all she led a rebellion as a 'paw. Downtuft knew he wouldn't be chosen. He'd lumped himself, Wildflower, and Clearstone together as too inexperienced.

It would seem he'd been mistaken. As such, the sandy-ginger tom was far from keen to take orders from a younger cat, let alone a younger cat born from a cat younger than him. So when said younger cat woke him up, he grunted in annoyance and stretched, briskly walking out of camp. The smell of rabbit bathed his tongue and he scanned the moor, locating the white coton tail bouncing into heather. Breaking into a sprint, Downtuft appeared a streaky burr zooming over the moorland hills. The rabbit lifted into large ears in alarm and began to hop away, but Downfuft was too quick for it.

The rabbit lay dead neatly at Downtuft's paws as he licked a paw over his ear, emerald eyes shiny.

Downtuft. Clearstone. Two great warriors who now had a vendetta against her. Understandable, but she hadn't asked to be deputy. She had been nervous about the position - still was. It brought some sort of authority, but she had yet to really do anything. Patrols weren't that hard if she got up early, and most cats were kind about it. Ceremonies and gatherings would change things. The first time she would actually have to feel different. There was a rift between Wildflower and her Clanmates now. They (and her) felt like she shouldn't have gotten the position because she was young, inexperienced. She didn't blame them.

It was in her nature to want to comfort Downtuft, or at least say 'Yes, sorry I got the position. It should have been you.' Though she didn't really think that - he was much less amicable then Softbreeze. Or Clearstone, who was still ghosting her. But he needed to not let this affect her relationship. He wanted to hunt by himself, fine. He had gotten up, he had gone with her... That was about as much as she could ask. She had to hunt, too. It would look bad on her part if she missed, so... here goes, I guess.
.
She stalked off in a different direction and scented the air, choking on the feathery scent. Why are there so many geese? "Downtuft, there's a goose!" She headed towards it, but it had other plans, as a sharp beak extended into her shoulder, nearly piercing her chest where it could have been fatal. Wildflower didn't see the blow coming, and hissed as it started to throb and sting. The goose took a step back, certain it had alleviated the cat - which was why it was unprepared for Wildflower's front paws, claws unsheathed, to wildly slash around its neck, chest, and shoulders. Feathers fell to the ground, some with bloodstains. She dropped to her paws as Downtuft arrived.

Goose uses Beaked Thrust on Wildflower, dealing 20 damage and costing 40 stamina.
Wildflower uses Rear-Up to Slash on Goose, dealing 17 damage and costing 15 stamina.

Goose

Wildflower

Downtuft wasn't angry at Wildflower more so confused. She was more inexperienced than he; surely she wouldn't have been made deputy. Before he could hear Wildflower's call he breathed in the rank smell of goose. Before he had a chance to counterattack the one on Wildflower, a second goose appeared!

Hissing with rage after being attacked with a wing, Downtuft whirled around, slashing its hideous face and ran behind it, kicking up with his back legs, claws extended. The sooner this mangy oversized pidgeon was dealt with, the sooner he could go rescue Wildflower. The goose honked in anger, sheltering its bleeding face from further attack with its wings.

Downtuft used Swift Strike dealing FOUR damage! Downtuft can attack again! Downtuft uses Back Kick dealing ELEVEN damge!
Goose 2 used Wing Bluff on Downtuft dealing TEN damage! The next attack on goose 2 will HIT!

Goose 1
23/40 hp
90/130 sp

Wildflower
75/95 hp
235/250 sp

Downtuft
35/45 hp [ -10 ]
135/160 sp [ -25 ]

Goose 2
25/40 hp [ -15 ]
110/130 sp [ -20 ]

So there were two geese now. They had to fight their own battles. Wildflower was momentarily distracted by Downtuft's movement behind her, and the goose used that opportunity to strike. It raised both wings menacingly and flapped forwards. The force was much more than she expected, and the molly was nearly thrown off her paws, managing to re-right herself at the last second. She swung around and lunged at the goose, throwing her body weight on top of it with outstretched claws. The goose had swung its wings up to protect against her claws, but wasn't prepared for her to use her body as well. Wildflower could feel herself growing tired and hoped she could finish this soon. The goose was in much worse condition, but she couldn't tell. All she could sense was the blood and bruises on both of them.

Goose 1 uses Wing Buff on Wildflower, dealing 10 damage and costing 20 stamina - the next attack on Goose 1 will hit.
Wildflower uses Jumping Strike on Goose 1, dealing 15 damage and costing 20 stamina.

Goose 1
8/40 hp
70/130 sp [-20]

Wildflower
65/95 hp [-10]
215/250 sp [-20]

Downtuft
35/45 hp
135/160 sp

Goose 2
25/40 hp
110/130 sp
