The Bird in the Cedar Tree [closed]

Robinloft gazed across the camp, taking another bite out of her squirrel. It was a relatively nice day out, it certainly wasn't as hot as the previous days, the humidity had even gone down today. It would make a nice day for some battle training, it was far easier to do when it wasn't hot out. Finishing the last of the squirrel, she scanned across the camp, looking for some cat would would be fun to spar with. Her gaze rested on a familiar pelt. "Cedarheart!" Her voice called out across the camp as she walked over to meet the she-cat. "Would you mind sparring with me today?"

Cedarheart’s recent meeting with Smallbean had brightened her spirits, and she was even more chipper than usual today. She had gone off with the dawn patrol, and returned to camp, relaxing in the shade. She heard her name called out and looked up. ”Hey Robinloft!” she greeted with a smile, standing up to meet the warrior in the middle area between where both of them had been. As she was asked to spar, her eyes lit up. She had sparred before, and it was always fun. ”Of course!” she agreed happily. Stretching out her back legs quickly, she pulled herself back into a normal stance, ready to start the spar. She felt a little weird just starting it out if the blue, so she decided she would wait for the other warrior to do so first, then she would “attack” back, as custom in a spar.

Happy to hear Cedarheart agree, she met the tabby in the center of the clearing. Preparing herself to battle, Robinloft quickly stretched and stood in a fighting stance. She waited a moment to see if Cedarheart wanted to attack first, but soon realized that she was letting her go first. Because this was a spar, she would have to be careful to make sure that she didn't unsheathe her claws. She didn't want to accidentally hurt Cedarheart, after all. Starting the spar, the bi-colored warrior lunged forward, darting underneath of Cedarheart to bat at her belly, making sure not to hit her too hard.

Cedarheart watched as Robinloft took her first move, raking at her stomach. The move would hurt if executed with claws, but they both kept them sheathed as so not to hurt the other. They were friendly clanmates, after all. The other warrior had emerged behind her, and had slunk off a noticeable distance. The brown tabby leapt at her sparring partner, stretching out her legs and landing over top of the bi-colored she-cat, knocking her over onto the ground. She got up quickly, and backed up a few paces before lowering into a defensive crouch.

After placing her attack, Robinloft jumped away, waiting for Cedarheart to launch her attack. Though she was expecting some sort of attack, she had to admit that she was surprised when her opponent leaped at her a knocked her off of her feet. Watching Cedarheart back away and crouch, she thought it would be the perfect way to pin down the other she-cat. Without taking a moment to think, she launched herself into the air and landed on top of Cedarheart, pinning her to the ground. She looked down at Cedarheart. "Let me know if i accidentally hurt you!"

Cedarheart wasn’t expecting to be leapt onto and held down, but she was surprised in a good way. And impressed with Robinloft’s moves. Nodding to the warrior, ”I will.” She replied. She struggled to get out from under her clanmate, but she was stuck under her grasp. The warrior would let her up eventually, it wasn’t like a real battle anyways.

Deep down, Robinloft knew that she probably wouldn't go for a pin in a real battle as soon as she did now, but she knew that Cedarheart was more strong and experienced than she was, so it was easier to just go for it. Keeping her opponent pinned, she thought about how long she should keep her down.  Maybe for a few more moments longer, she wanted to make sure she would win, even if it was just for practice. With that, she started to lightly bat at Cedarheart's flank.

Cedarheart wasn’t often held under a pin, but she did it a decent amount of times in battle. It now occurred to her how uncomfortable and powerless it felt. Robinloft wasn’t stronger than her, most likely, but she had the right position, and in battle, position could mean anything. A young apprentice could pin down an extremely experienced warrior if they did it at the right time in the right position. The warrior could tell that her partner would release her soon, by the light shifts of her body.

Letting go of her opponent, Robinloft lifted her hold on Cedarheart and jumped a safe distance away, her stance still battle-ready. Maybe she could get another hit on Cedarheart before she got back up? Making up her mind, she darted forward and lightly hit her shoulder before darting back again.

Cedarheart leapt up at the opportunity, quite literally freed from the restraining grasp of her fellow warrior. Waiting a moment, she turned on Robinloft, hoisting up her brown legs to deliver a swift but light kick, one with enough force to lightly push her opponent, but not enough to seriously hurt, matching the nature of most moves in spars.

The warrior could feel her strength starting to ebb away, growing tired from the sparring. Robinloft staggered back at Cedarheart's soft kick but quickly steadied herself. Rearing up on her hind legs, the she-cat pummeled her opponents face with her unsheathed paws before dropping back down, backing away to a safe distance.

As Cedarheart saw Robinloft grow weaker, she mustered all the strength she could have and leapt out of the way as the warrior got ready to claw at her once more. Turning back around, she wondered if she could go in for a counter-attack. Deciding that her partner was feeling weak enough, she ran back closer to the slightly confused she-cat and batted at her.
