Applefang heard a moan, and the voice of his mate, leaping up, his eyes widened. He knew Streamtail was pregnant, of course, he would’ve had to been blind not to see the protruding bulge the kits had created, but it was nerve-wracking now that it was actually happening. ”I’ll get a medicine cat!” called out the warrior, running toward the medicine den. He poked his head inside, looking for Spiderquill. ”Spiderquill? Streamtail is kitting.” Although outwardly he played it off in a much less nervous fashion than the first time around, the truth was that he was terrified. Petrified of losing his mate, if her being in any pain. He hoped that she would be alright. The thought of another kit, though. A small bundle of fur looking up to him warmed his heart, a bit. It would be nice to have some more kits, he did love younger cats. Sitting outside of the nursery, he waited.
The noises that would come from the nursery soon enough would make him want to leap in, he could predict that much. But Spiderquill was experienced, and the medicine cat could handle it. Still, a decent part of him wondered what he would do without Streamtail. Sure, Applefang had been fine without his mate, but that was before they were close. He had lost kits before, and he didn’t want to repeat the experience. The sheer thought of losing his father, or one of his siblings was horrible.
