deafening silence [solo]

Dusty paw prints appeared every time Redfall lifted a paw. He was traveling through the territory on one of the better known paths. It was known for the flowers that sprung up on each side, a mix of dark colors, ranging from indigo to violet to blue, and then back again. Although he enjoyed the flowers, Redfall preferred the Great Ridge, especially since the flower dust got everywhere here. The young warrior lifted his nose into the air, softening his pawsteps in case a mouse was near. He let out a muffled sneeze as he inhaled the flower dust, grunting in annoyance. Hopefully the prey didn't hear that. He inhaled, focusing on the musky tang of prey, pushing the sharp flowery scent to the side. He was rewarded with the scent of squirrel.

Redfall inhaled again, this time pinpointing the squirrel. It was in the long flower stalks. He'd have to trust his nose on this one. Slowly, he crouched down, muscles tensing in preparation. As he reached ground level, the flower stalks were easier to see through, and Redfall's eyes found the squirrel. Carefully, he stalked a few steps forwards, pouncing as soon as he got close. He shot towards the squirrel, hoping he hadn't overestimated the length between him and the squirrel. Redfall's aim proved true, to his surprise, and he cleanly bit the creature's neck. It went limp in his teeth, and he blinked in shocked happiness before moving out of the flowers. Not a bad way to start the day. Maybe I can catch another one and go back to camp. The ginger warrior buried the squirrel, scraping the dirt over it, as he scented the air, hoping for another good catch. It was a good day to be out, for sure, and hopefully the prey would think so as well. A slight breeze ruffled his fur, promising a beautiful day, as the sun peeked out behind a cloud. Redfall settled himself into a crouch, catching the scent of a blackbird. It was poking at some seeds at the edge of a tree. It would be tricky to get through the flowers without alerting it, and Redfall hesitated for a second, before deciding to go for it anyway.

Redfall took his time weaving through the flowers, fur gently brushing over their petals. He held his breath the entire time, forcing himself not to sneeze. His eyes, trained on the blackbird, didn't notice a pinecone in front of his path, and Redfall cursed as he tripped over it. The blackbird's beady eyes fixed on his for a millisecond, before it cawed, raising its wings to fly away. Redfall leapt, despite knowing it would be futile, hoping he could maybe grab the bird's wing. His jaws were too late, and Redfall showed his teeth at the fleeting form of the bird, before heading back to his squirrel. He unearthed it, and headed back to camp. The sun was up by the time he returned, and he set the squirrel on the pile, before ducking into his den. Everyone else was only rising now. At least Redfall had caught something fresh for the many new kits SkyClan now had. It had been a successful morning hunt, and now he'd take a nap until the afternoon.
