"Alright, let us begin." Sparkfire turned her attention to a nearby pine tree sapling, walking over to it and instructing with her tail for Vinepaw to follow. "I want you to attack this sapling with everything you've got. Here's how I want you to do it: unsheathe your claws and slam your paw as hard into the sapling as you possibly can. The more pine needles you claw off, the stronger your attack will be against an enemy." She raised her large paw and unsheathed her claws, and, after bundling up her muscles, she slammed her paw has hard as she could into the sapling. A large hunk of pine needles immediately flew several mouse-lengths away, sending a spray of fragile young bark with it.

Sparkfire nodded. "Good. Now, to get you used to fighting stronger opponents...." She trotted a few tail-lengths away and lowered herself into a defensive position. "You and I will have a sparring match. Come at me with everything you've got!"

(OOC: For this particular sparring match, you are free to use any apprentice-level moves you want, so long as they stay in the guidelines discussed in the system. Vinepaw's moves will deduct Sparkfire's HP and his own SP, but Sparkfire's moves will not cause Vinepaw damage. Also, to keep things fair, seeing as how Vinepaw will most likely be battling another apprentice for his requirement, Sparkfire will be using apprentice-level moves as well. This is a test to help you battle an actual opponent when the time comes. Also, since it is not yet dawn, and still dark outside, "Night Finesse" will be in effect, so Vinepaw's moves will deal +2 more damage.)

Sparkfire winced at the pain of small, thorn-sharp claws. She may have had her fair share of battles with many injuries, but pain was still pain. Still, she stood her ground against her apprentice’s attack. Making sure to keep her claws sheathed so she wouldn’t hurt Vinepaw, she thumped her own paw against his cheek, using her strength to topple him over. ”Good first attempt. Now let’s see if you can find a way to pin me down. If you can’t get me down, you’ll never be able to defend your Clanmates against a badger or a fox.”

The young tom had been wise to use his momentum to his advantage. Well, then again, there would have been no other way to take down a cat as large as herself considering his size. She inwardly hissed and dug her claws into the soft, marshy earth to try and withstand the pain. Thankfully, her thick fur shielded herself from the worst of it. ”N-Not bad, kit. Alright, lemme up, there’s one more thing I want to teach you about fighting.”

Sparkfire is unable to move.

He laughed and got off of her. "You're doing a great job training me." He said. This time he was for real.

Sparkfire blinked, having been taken aback by this statement. She had never been told how well her teachings were before. She appreciated the recognition. After giving her apprentice a grateful dip of her head, she lowered herself into an attack position. ”Okay, I’m going to show you how to dodge. You attack me first with your paws.”

(OOC: Yes. Go ahead and use Front Paw Strike as you normally would, and I’ll show you how Dodge-and-Fight will work in battle.)
