Dirty Paws [Closed]

"Deerpaw, wake up. We're going out," Foxfire meowed as he gently jabbed at his apprentice, having wormed his way into the apprentice den to fetch the young tom. His voice held little warmth to it - no life as he turned and padded from the den. He hadn't been the same since his attack, failing to hold the energy he once had. Sagelight had finally given him the clear to actually leave the camp for once - his wounds healed and starting to form into scars. He sighed as he stepped into the camp proper, shaking his head as he headed toward the entrance. He knew how he was acting was so different, so...Unlike him but the weight of everything became so heavy in his mind after his attack, he had done his best to keep up with his duties but there was no fondness behind it. He didn't want to do anything, but that wasn't fitting for a deputy...And so he forced himself to keep up with what was expected with him - and finally doing Deerpaw's training was one of that.

Deerpaw had been dreaming of one day becoming leader when Foxsprit had awoken him. Once Foxfire had spoke Deerpaw jumped onto his paws. He feared for a moment that he had waken up Juniperpaw and Featherpaw, but relaxed when he saw them laying in fast asleep.

Deerpaw followed Foxfire out towards the entrance eagerly. He could not wait to start training!

As Deerpaw approached, Foxfire turned and led the apprentice out into the territory without a word. He just had to go through the motions - he had done this a pawful of times already, teaching somebody how to hunt. He knew the words, how to explain it...But still he wasted the silent seconds deep in through, forming the words he would say before he finally opened his mouth. "Hunting is easy to learn, hard to master," he meowed as he came to a stop, casting his gaze around until he was certain he was happy with the small clearing they were in. It would do. "You want to crouch, keep your body low to the ground but not enough to stir up any leaves. You want to keep your weight even, don't favor one paw over another," he explained, dropping into a crouch of his own as he stalked forward, hoping to provide a good example for Deerpaw to follow.

There was a moment as he raised his head, glancing around until he spotted a bird fluttering to the ground not far from there - more focused on finding any loose seeds or nuts to have noticed the two cats. He jerked his head in the direction of it, glancing at Deerpaw. "Try to catch that bird," he murmured to him, taking a soft step back to watch. He had hope for Deerpaw, knowing it was best to see how well the apprentice could do in the field than just try to explain it - and if Deerpaw did miss, it would be the perfect opportunity to see what they could work on to improve.

OOC: Okay, I know that Mosspelt is gonna teach you the hunting system in her next post in that WC patrol you are in, but I'm also going to explain it here as well. When you are using the hunting system, the first thing you have to do is decide what kind of prey you want - in this case, I have given Deerpaw a bird to go for. If you hit preview at the bottom of your post, it will let you see what your post will look like...And also give you access to the Dice Rolls (located below where you can edit your reply). You will want to click on the Dice Rolls square and select hunting dice.

With one dice roll (as you are hunting a single prey, you would only change the number if you had more than one cat hunting at once in a post really), you simply hit send and it will post the reply along with a second one by Mistpelt - which will give you your dice roll. With your dice roll, you will check out the Hunting System page to see if you caught your prey, being mindful of what season it is (which is bolded) along with what Clan you are from. As a SkyClan cat hunting in Leaf-Fall, a bird will be a 7 and below catch for you. 8-9 will miss...and a 10 will summon a predator for us to fight (and thus are not favored). It also should be noted that trying to hunt uses 3 stamina (As an apprentice, you have 20 health and 80 stamina to start)

If you roll a predator, its up to you to pick one to fight and edit your post to reflect them appearing. However, if either of us roll a ten, I will most likely take it upon myself to bring it in simply so you get an idea - but all the stats and whatnot for the predators are on the hunting system. You can also force predator encounters if you need a battle requirement. Also, as a note, for your hunting requirement - you must roll a 9 or below for it to count. Rolling a 10 sadly will not give you your requirement but as long as you roll a 1-9 once, your requirement is in the bag.

Deerpaw nodded. He looked towards the bird. He got into a crouch he remembered when he was a kit. He didn't have to really worry about his tail since it was so small. He slowly and carefully padded towards the bird, ready to strike.

He then pounced hopping on top of the bird killing it in a swift bite. Held up the  bird proudfully in his jaws.

Foxfire sat back, watching his apprentice with a careful gaze, silently judging his form. Deerpaw was doing well - and there was a flicker of joy in Foxfire's heart at it, warming him slightly and causing a soft smile to curl at the corner of his muzzle. He almost felt normal again. Then with a mighty leap, Deerpaw had pinned the bird and killed it. "Good job," he meowed, mustering a slight warmth in his voice as he tried to embrace the pride and just be...Himself again. "You're a natural, Deerpaw," he meowed. "Store it beneath a nearby root and we can continue hunting, alright?" he meowed, jerking his head in the direction of one of the nearby trees.

There was plenty of roots that peaked from the ground, giving a small area of shelter beneath just perfect for a growing fresh-kill pile. He turned, letting Deerpaw find a good one by himself as the deputy padded a bit into the treeline in the search of his own prey to catch. It didn't take long to see the fluff tail of a squirrel scurry nearby, ducking beneath roots in an effort to conceal itself. He dropped into a crouch, carefully stalking it until it made a run across open cover - taking the moment to leap at it with a soft growl. He landed on it as skillfully as Deerpaw had caught that bird, killing the squirrel with a quick swipe of his paw. Carefully picking it up, he turned and trotted back to where he had left Deerpaw to find where they were going to store their prey - planning to put his squirrel with the neatly caught bird.

Foxfire succeeded to catch a squirrel, costing 3 stamina.

Deerpaw nodded and trotted off towards a root. He layed the prey down and put leaves on top of it. Deerpaw didn't want a fox or something findin the prey he caught.

OOC: Lets get your battle requirement while we are at it as well...

Foxfire had only gotten a couple branch-lengths away before he froze, ears twitching at something. Something was...Off. There wasn't any bird calls, the forest falling strangely silent. That only happened when... "Predator!" he shouted over his shoulder, tasting the air as he tried to get a read on what was around. ...The scent was familiar, eyes narrowing as he took a couple steps back to close the distance between him and Deerpaw - just as a gray blob shot from around a tree. A raccoon. With snarling teeth and narrowed eyes, it threw itself at Foxfire as the deputy leap to the side, letting it roll past him as he lashed out with a claw - hoping to get it on the pass before it could recover.

Wild Raccoon used Quick Swipe on Foxfire, dealing 20 damage and costing 10 stamina.
Foxfire used Dodge and Fight, costing 15 stamina, negating the last attack's damage. Foxfire failed to counterattack.

Deerpaw jumped up nervously at the sight of the raccoon. He'd only been told what they looked like by Murkpelt and what they were like. "Don't worry Foxfire! I'll help you!" Deerpaw called.

He ran towards the raccoon, unsheathing his claws as he did so. Once he got in front of the raccoon he sliced at it.

While annoyed that he had missed the mark on hurting the raccoon, the deputy gave a proud nod to Deerpaw as the apprentice came racing up, slashing at the raccoon. Foxfire wasted no time in joining his apprentice, throwing himself in front of the beast to keep its attention focused on him rather than Deerpaw. "I'll keep it distracted," he growled, before wincing as the black and white beast's claws sank into his shoulder, leaving a fine wound that started to drip with crimson. He shook his head, gritting past the pain as he launched himself at the raccoon, sending the two rolling head-over-tail before they broke apart, carefully circling each other as they waited for the other to make the next move.

Wild Raccoon used Quick Swipe on Foxfire, dealing 20 damage and costing 10 stamina.
Foxfire used Jumping Strike on Wild Raccoon, dealing 15 damage and costing 20 stamina.

Deerpaw nodded. He then raced up to the raccoon as fast as he could and tackled it. The raccoon fell over onto its side with a thump.

The raccoon screeched in surprise as it hit the ground, Foxfire quickly approaching with a soft growl. The beast apparently knew when it had been beat, scrambling to its feet as it raced away into the shadows of the undergrowth. For a moment, Foxfire thought about chasing it down to end it once and for all but decided against it. It wouldn't have been fit to eat and leaving a body out would only attract more predators.

He sighed, shaking his head as he glanced over at his fresh wound. It hurt, but it didn't look to be all that deep. He felt bad for Sagelight, having to deal with so many recent wounds with all of the fighting but at least there wasn't any serious injuries. "You good, Deerpaw?" he meowed, glancing over at the tom. Luckily it didn't look like he had gotten hit at all - the raccoon's attention had mostly been focused on Foxfire as the bigger threat. "You did good. I...Think we should head back, thought. Not as much prey as I would have hoped but I think that is enough excitement for now."

Wild Raccoon has fled.

Deerpaw watched the raccoon scramble to it's paws and run off. Deerpaw eagerly hopped up and down. "Yeah you better run! If you show up on Skyclan territory again a different warrior will claw your ears off!" Deerpaw yelled. He turned around to face Foxfire. "You good Deerpaw?" Deerpaw nodded.

After Foxfire spoke more Deerpaw started hopping again. "Yeah I'm tired. Plus I can't wait to tell Featherpaw and Juniperpaw all about it!" Deerpaw sqeuaked. He ran towards the root where heput his bird and picked it up. He then ran so he could be beside Foxfire.
