The Start of the Storm [CLOSED]

Ever since the discovery of what has been done to Foxfire, Flowerthorn had been on edge. Checking and rechecking the border Skyclan had shared with Shadowclan. Inching for her claws to sink into the nearest Shadowclan warrior. She knew she wasn't supposed to but she couldn't control her resentment any longer.

As soon as she scented nearby cats the warrior was ready. She hid in the Highpine, her eyes watching as a warrior an apprentice passed by. She looked down to Juniperpaw, who was on a lower branch, and nodded. She let out a battle cry before launching herself down from the tree. She bounded forward her claws digging into the earth before she tackled the warrior.

Juniperpaw, still a very young apprentice, was startled when Flowerthorn took off at the strangers. But he was unexperienced, and deciding that she was a warrior and therefore knew best, followed her lead and threw himself into the smaller cat. The small was rather gross, and he wasn't sure what he was doing besides throwing claws at every chance he got, but he figured fair was fair after what this clan had done to their deputy.

Juniperpaw used Run-and-Tackle on Lightpaw, dealing 6(+3) damage and using 10 stamina.

Lightpaw growled at the attack, and retaliated with a mighty swipe to the softer underbelly. "Filthy Skyclanners- what are you going to do, kill me like the murdering mousehearts you are?"

Juniperpaw was a little startled by Lightpaw's growl, not sure what was being referenced. All he knew was that ShadowClan started a lot of problems between them and SkyClan, and if Flowerthorn thought it best to retaliate, he'd follow in her footsteps and make Spottedstar and Foxfire proud. It was all he could really do. He lashed out wildly, striking the other apprentice across the face.

Marshcloud yelped at the sudden impact of another cat, and as he stumbled to his he feet he stared at his opponent for a moment. This was the first time he'd really fought another cat. He'd hoped, in his typical naive optimism, that he'd never have to, but here he was, face to face with an enemy, reeling from their blow.

"I really don't want to fight anyone," he muttered as he swung a paw at his opponent, hoping he wouldn't hurt them too badly.

"You fox-hearts brought it upon yourselves. Attacking our deputy like that because you couldn't get your paws on the real murderers after we told you we would give you word if we found them!" Flowerthorn growled out. She didn't care if she was attacking an innocent cat. Shadowclan needed to pay for what they had done. She didn't care about the pain from the cat's claws. She was to focus on getting whatever revenge she could. The pale she-cat quickly dove under the other warrior slashing at his stomach.

"But this isn't-- this isn't going to help anything, it's just more-- just more...it's not going to solve anything," Marshcloud said with a note of muddled desperation, the distraction of the pain from the fresh slashes on his stomach keeping him from forming a more coherent and articulated thought.

Reluctantly, he swung another paw at his opponent, but this time he sheathed his claws, hoping that somehow he could properly communicate just how against this whole fighting business he was.

Lightpaw leapt to her paws. No Skyclanner was going to defeat her so easily. She leapt on Juniperpaw, digging her claws into his back.

"It's not gonna solve anything? You should have thought about that before attacking our deputy! We were ready to help you find Redwing's murderer and then you go and main our deputy? You don't have the right to talk things out now." Flowerthorn didn't care about the light blows the other cat was giving. Quickly she lashed out again.

Marshcloud, never having been the best at listening to someone telling him he was wrong, continued to try to talk to his opponent as they fought. "But not everyone is responsible for what happened! Why can't the rest of us-- why don't we have the right to talk instead of going in circles with more violence?". He spat out the last word with a distinct distaste and swatted at his opponent, though this time with claws unsheathed again.

"Sorry..." he said quietly as his claws connected with the enemy's fur. A twinging guilt filled his stomach. He had hated the idea of fighting another cat even before this first battle, and he hated it even more now that he'd actually experienced it. He hated the anger that battle brought out in both his clanmates and his opponents. There was something about it that he found deeply frightening.

Why was he apologizing? Why couldn't he just fight? She growled as a response. She was done with words. This bickering would get them no where. She was just going to continue to fight and take out her enemy. She reared up on her hind legs, her claws slashing into the Shadowclan tom.

Marshcloud stumbled up. The pain of his opponent's strikes were piercing through his thoughts, his coherency waning minute by minute. He wouldn't be able to stand much longer. And it should've been clear the other cat wasn't going to listen to him.

But he'd never really learned how to accept defeat, even in situations where backing down was the smart, or right, choice. So he stumbled forward, batting a useless paw at the enemy, still trying to keep up his desperate attempt at communicating with them, though in his state the words came out unintelligibly.
