Silentpaw's "Moonstone Journey" Empty
PostSubject: Silentpaw's "Moonstone Journey"   Silentpaw's "Moonstone Journey" EmptyMon Jul 08, 2019 1:14 am

Things like tradition were no easily forgotten even in the wake of a revolution. Burnt had awaited the moment that Silentpaw would leave behind apprenticehood and join him in the warrior's den. Now, ranks did not matter. Already he had once more taken to being a constant at her side, and vice versa. They would lead Stagclan together. And if that were the case, it was only proper that she be allowed the same opportunity to defy Starclan that he had before gaining a warrior name. He would give her the option of keeping to the naming that they had been accustomed to or abandoning the suffix like he had recently decided upon. Declaring that he would give his life for these cats was not enough, there had to be something more to show them. It was why he had given his name to the clan, to honor his dedication to them and to the cause in which they had embarked on. Other cats were not required to do so, but were welcome if they did decide to do so. He eagerly awaited what Silentpaw would decide to do after her confrontation with the stars.

It would be more of a right of passage than a sacred ceremony to honor the ancestors who had long turned their backs on them. Each cat of Stagclan needed to know what they were leaving, and what they were striving for. Burnt padded towards the pure white-pelted she-cat and bowed his head before addressing her, "Are you ready to leave? I hope to not be gone too long... for the sake of the clan." An obvious concern shone in the depths of his gaze but as he looked at Silentpaw, it those fears seemed to still. Not only would they have time to be alone together but also to embark on a new journey. Flintfang and Asterspark would be able to manage the camp. As he glanced at the she-cat's paws, it appeared she had prepared something akin to travelling herbs. He dipped his head and took them without so much as a twitch of his whiskers before turning towards the entrance of camp and heading in the direction of the moonstone. To avoid any conflict, they would skirt around the edges of other territories and stick near the Thunderpath.

[Time Skip]

The journey went fairly quickly and without issue. The pair stood at the Mothermouth and Burnt peered into the dark tunnel ahead. It was about time. Now they just needed to venture into the bowels of the rock formation and reach the moonstone. He remembered Morningpaw taking him here so long ago. And when he stood facing Brushgaze. His poor, sweet, misguided mother. It was a memory that would be best laid to rest but he found himself unable to forget. Burnt pressed his coat against his companion's before leading the way through the dark tunnel. The pressing darkness threatened to overwhelm any cat, but the path itself was rather straight forward, "Follow me. When we reach the moonstone all you need to do is press your nose to it and sleep. The rest is up to you, Silentpaw." The calico offered her a half-smile before heading down the path. It was funny, being back here, once more.

Silentpaw's "Moonstone Journey" Empty
PostSubject: Re: Silentpaw's "Moonstone Journey"   Silentpaw's "Moonstone Journey" EmptyTue Jul 09, 2019 4:52 am

The soft-spoken she-cat had spent the entirety of the evening since her awakening rifling through the herbs her sister had left behind. Mothpaw had never been good at organizing things, but now that she was gone Silentpaw finally had the change to completely rearrange it all to suit her needs. Seriously...

Who puts juniper berries next to deathberries?

Tucking the admittedly beautiful - and most definitely deadly - red berries away in a small nook, Silentpaw flicked her tail in frustration. It was ridiculous how scatterbrained Mothpaw could be. She somehow had watermint mixed in with the catmint, even though there was another small bundle of watermint not far away. The black tabby's face flickered over her mind's eye and Silentpaw narrowed her eyes. She didn't particularly want to think about Mothpaw right now, but nearly everything in this stupid den reminded her of the harebrained she-cat.

Sighing, Silentpaw down to look over her work so far. Admittedly there was a lot she didn't know about medicine. She'd never trained as a medicine cat. In fact, all she really knew was what she'd watched her sister practice...

But something inside her whispered of more.

Speaking of... a certain calico tom had spoken to her the night prior of her moonstone journey... hadn't he? Peeking her head out of the darkened medicine cat's den, Silentpaw turned her gaze towards the sky. She sucked in air sharply upon realizing it was nearly moonhigh, and ducked back into the den in a rush. She was almost late and she hadn't even prepared anything for them to bring with them! Her tail lashed anxiously as her eyes scanned the den for the necessary herbs.

Uh... what were they again?

Going for the first ones she could recall, she scooped up enough sorrel for both herself and Burnt, then she turned to grab the nearby burnet... but after that she hesitated.

What were the last two?

Wracking her brain, the snow white she-cat paced the den. Catchweed...? No. Maybe burdock? No no no, that was for some kind of bite. Chamomile? That's it! A small gasp escaped her as one more piece of the puzzle clicked into place and in an instant she had collected the white-flowered herb and dumped it into the pile with the other herbs. There was only one more left now.

It wasn't dock... nor fennel...

Dandelion?

She wasn't certain, but at this point she was out of time. She could hear the soft but heavy pawsteps approaching, so she rushed to dump the herb into the piles and organize them into an easily consumable bundle.

And then he was there.

Her frantic movements stilled the moment the tom pushed his way into the den, and she couldn't help the slight catch in her breath the moment those piercing eyes of his met hers.

It seemed like a near-infinite amount of time had passed before he bowed his head and finally spoke, the rough timbre of his voice drawing her gently from her daze. It took only a heartbeat for her to actually process his words, and she nodded her head quickly.

Right.

It was time to go.

Scooping up her bundle, she downed it quickly in an attempt to ignore the sharp, bitter taste. The she-cat wasn't sure what travelling herbs were supposed to taste like, but the flavor of her make-shift bundle was disgustingly overwhelming. Resisting the urge to react to the herbs, she followed her new leader and silently hoped she hadn't just poisoned them both. It certainly tasted like she had.

[Time Skip]

They'd walked in almost complete silence, their pawsteps muffled from moons of training as they travelled cloaked in the cool embrace of shadow. It was a quiet night, the nearly full moon illuminating their path in a soft silver light that, upon striking her fur, left Silentpaw's white pelt glowing blue-white in the darkness. The long journey had left her paw-pads sore and her legs aching, yet she powered on. Even so, the tom beside her seemed largely unaffected by the journey. Silentpaw studied him, quietly admiring the sureness in his steps. He seemed to be unshaken by almost any situation.

She still recalled the day they'd stumbled across the swollen body of his brother.

Somewhere deep in her chest she knew that it had affected him, but in the moment his form was so still. He had stared down at the smoky grey pelt of Slatestrike with such a stony face you'd think he was looking down at the corpse of a murderous, tresspassing rogue... rather than his own flesh and blood. Some strange part deep inside of her was entranced by the tom's stoic nature, but the rest of her felt she understood why he was the way he was. He had been born into bloodshed and tragedy. The loss of his brother had come moons after the loss of his mother and father.

What if he was used to loss by now?

It was a dark thought, but she wondered if it was possible for someone to adjust to such a feeling. After she'd lost Minnowcall she'd been deeply upset. She hadn't been extremely close with the molly, but she still cared for her. That was her mother after all. Then again, she knew that he and his brother weren't particularly close. Not like he was with Littlesun. Honestly, even looking at his relationship with Flintfang she could see more of a brotherly bond than that of his and Slatestrike's relationship.

She knew he couldn't hear her thoughts, and that was likely for the best. Even so, empathy echoed in her heart for the tom. He was facing not only the stars, but all five clans on the path he walked.

Did he feel alone in this?

As they neared Mothermouth, Silentpaw let her tail brush against his, twining them together affectionately for a moment before nodding to him and allowing him to lead the way. The shadowy entrance to the sacred cavern swallowed them the instant they stepped inside, and for a moment she couldn't even see her own paws. However, the gentle breathing of Burnt just ahead of her told her exactly where to step. The darkness was pressing, yet for some reason she was content in her surroundings. She wondered for only a heartbeat what it was that was keeping the nearly ever-present anxiety at bay before she realized exactly what it was.

She had complete faith in him.

It was an odd realization, but not unwelcome. He was not blood, yet she could rely on him just as strongly as she once had relied on her sister and father. Following this, another thought came to mind.

Could he rely on her? Was his faith as deeply ingrained in her as hers was in him? Did he see her as a warrior, as a she-cat that could bear the weight of the world alongside him? Was that why he had confided in her that fateful day almost a moon prior?

She wondered.

Before long, they had reached their destination. As soon as she stepped foot into the cavern her breath was spirited away from her. The sight of the Moonstone was indescribable. For something created by beings of lies and betrayal, it was... surprisingly breathtaking.

But she wasn't here to sight-see.

She hadn't considered it before, but as she neared the sacred crystal Silentpaw wondered if the stars would even bother speaking with her. She'd been devout in her belief for the entirety of her life, and yet they hadn't so much as whispered to her or any clan cat of the incoming flood. They hadn't lifted a paw to save her mother or grandfather.

They hadn't done a thing to spare all the kits and apprentices swept away by the tide.

Would they own up to their mistakes?

Would anyone come to meet her?

Would she see her mother?

Her grandfather?

Taking a deep breath, she settled down beside the stone and let her soft pink nose rest against it. The chill of the stone sent a small shiver through her body as she closed her eyes. For a moment, she had difficulty falling asleep. The cold kept her mind active, and the stone floor wasn't helping her already aching body. She honestly just wanted to turn her face away from the Moonstone and curl into a tight, warm ball.

An echo of the past dredged up the memory of the nights she and her sister would share a nest. It was never hard to keep warm with that giant furball wrapped around her. A pang of sadness shot through her chest at the thought, but she quickly shoved it back as another shiver rattled her body. Things would never be the same. She knew that. She just needed to remind herself every once in a while...

A quiet shuffle beside her drew her attention, though she didn't look up immediately.

...?

The sudden warmth that had wrapped itself around her was so familiar feeling she almost thought she was imagining it, but upon opening her eyes she found not orange but rather the piercing green gaze of Burnt peering back at her. Her pelt warmed suddenly as she realized he had wrapped himself around her, and she knew the heat was not just from his body. As she gazed into his eyes, she didn't speak. In fact, she felt almost shy at finding him so close to her. The feeling was far different from when she and Mothpaw would share a nest. She wanted to stay like this.

It was... comforting.

Nestling herself closer to the tom, Silentpaw let her nose rest against the stone once more. She had a duty to perform and she couldn't lose sight of that... no matter how soft his fur was or how warm his body was. This time, she found the chill of the Moonstone less startling and it wasn't long before she felt herself drifting away.

Within moments, sleep had taken her.

Silentpaw's "Moonstone Journey" Empty
PostSubject: Re: Silentpaw's "Moonstone Journey"   Silentpaw's "Moonstone Journey" EmptyWed Jul 10, 2019 1:31 pm

Silentpaw was greeted by a starry landscape; a beautiful clearing lined by trees. And in the clearing were two cats sitting side by side, watching the former ShadowClan apprentice with something between fondness and apprehension. Well, one's gaze held apprehension; the other nothing but fondness.

"Silentpaw!" a voice exclaimed, sounding - not surprised, exactly, but excited nonetheless. It originated from the cat on the left; her dark gray fur shone with sparkling stars as her vivid green eyes met Silentpaw's gaze. The silver tabby that rested on the gray she-cat's right side nudged her with one paw, and the gray she-cat paused. "Oh, yes. My name is Lilacfall," she said lightly, as if it were a gentle reminder of something the apprentice before her ought to already have known. "And it is so very nice to see you, Silentpaw... I'm your father's sister, and a former warrior of ShadowClan." If a hint of sadness seeped into Lilacfall's tone at that last bit, she didn't dwell on it.

The silver tabby's eyes found Silentpaw's next, a similar blue color to her own. "As Lilacfall said... It is good to see you here, Silentpaw. But there are reasons for your presence here beyond introductions, aren't there? Still... You may call me Featherlight." Featherlight waited a moment, not offering any more about herself, before speaking again. "Now that we've all been acquainted with one another... You're free to say your piece, Silentpaw."

Silentpaw's "Moonstone Journey" Empty
PostSubject: Re: Silentpaw's "Moonstone Journey"   Silentpaw's "Moonstone Journey" EmptyWed Jul 10, 2019 5:12 pm

As her mind faded back into consciousness, Silentpaw felt the strangest echo of déjà vu when she opened her eyes to a starlit glade. The grasses grew high, swaying in what seemed to be a light breeze that she couldn't feel.

Where am I?

Was this Starclan? She hadn't really known what to expect, but this area seemed... familiar. Swivelling her head around, she scanned the clearing with a mildly confused expression.

Until her eyes landed on the two starry silhouettes standing only a few tail lengths from her. Something settled inside her as she looked them up and down. It felt as if... something she'd been searching for... for so long now...

had been found...?

The darker she-cat spoke first, her green eyes alight with joy. The warrior, Lilacfall apparently, greeted her by name with what seemed to be a heartfelt happiness. The confusion returned tenfold at the reaction of the former Shadowclanner. It was almost as if she knew Silentpaw based on her tone of voice... but Silentpaw had never seen this cat in her life.

After Lilacfall had finished, the pretty silver tabby beside her picked up where she left off. However, despite her soft appearance, she kept her words much more brisk and businesslike. Featherlight was more what she'd expected from this interaction. After all, there was nothing like the cold comfort of stars to keep you company.

Figures the Starclanner would be just as frigid.

Lifting her head and meeting the gaze of the mysterious she-cats, it seemed as if a shutter had fallen shut over her face. Nearly all emotion and expression left her eyes only to be replaced by a calm, calculative stare. It was time. "I see you already know my name." She began, her deep blue gaze studying them, watching for any reaction that might betray their inner thoughts.

"You must know a lot about me then, looking down us as you do."

A memory surfaced in her mind, pulling her back to her days as a young apprentice when she'd share her deepest secrets to those softly twinkling pinpricks of light. The blanket of night cloaked her. Made her feel safe. The stars let her know she was never alone, no matter how many people overlooked her for her sister or brothers. But they were never truly there with her... she'd just been misguided and naive. Tightening her jaw, she shoved the memory back.

She'd always been alone.

However, through this her calm facade never faltered. "Tell me, do you enjoy watching us flounder about from your starlit perch here?"

Her voice, normally soft and calm, wavered ever so slightly with some outwardly unidentifiable emotion. She felt betrayed... and facing her betrayers finally had made it all too clear to her that they truly had abandoned her when she'd needed them most.

Silentpaw's "Moonstone Journey" Empty
PostSubject: Re: Silentpaw's "Moonstone Journey"   Silentpaw's "Moonstone Journey" EmptyWed Jul 17, 2019 4:10 pm

Lilacfall shrunk back. She looked almost as if she'd been struck by Silentpaw's words, with sadness in her eyes and wavering in her voice, like it might break. "So that's what you think of us, is it? That we only watch you because we enjoy not being able to help...?"

Featherlight, beside her, gently nudged her shoulder. "Lilacfall, please; be reasonable." Once Lilacfall was quiet once more - with the dignity to look ashamed for her outburst - Featherlight fixed her gaze on Silentpaw; allowing some warmth to trickle through. She understood, even if she couldn't make it clear... "Mostly, all we can do is watch, Silentpaw. And it's quite painful to do so; when you so often can't do anything to help. But more importantly than that... We - no, I - once stood where you are now. So, please... Let me tell you this..." In fact, Featherlight recalled a time when her expression had almost perfectly mirrored Silentpaw's. It stung to be on the receiving end, but her feelings didn't matter right now. Silentpaw's did; and while she held no illusions of convincing her of anything now... Maybe one day she would understand. "There is more to the world than what you allow yourself to see. You don't have to trust us, or believe us... Just think on that, and make your own decisions."

Lilacfall spoke once more, soft and sweet like the first time she'd addressed Silentpaw. "They won't be good decisions if they're not yours. Of course, your decisions are yours to make; whatever way you like. We can't tell you what to do or what to think... And we don't want to."
