Feathered Silence

She had made the right decision to stretch her legs. After all, lately most of her time had been spent sitting in her own sick or lecturing Mothpaw about actually keeping the medicine cat's den clean. It was going to drive her mad if she didn't do something about it. Something told her that if she was caught sneaking out of camp, she'd never hear the end of it... and that something was probably correct.

But it didn't mean it was going to stop her.

She took her time with the walk, enjoying the sights and sounds of greenleaf in the marsh.

This was her first after all... but why did it all seem so familiar?

She wasn't surprised by the frequency of birds darting through the sky, nor did the amount of greenery seem new to her. Honestly, it felt as if she'd walked this path before. As if she'd seen these sights already.

Brushing the strange sense of déjà vu aside, the pale white she-cat made her way deeper into the marshy territory.

As she explored her home territory for the first time in over a moon, Silentpaw noticed that prey was far more plentiful than it had been in past sunrises. Plump birds lazily pecked at the ground, nudging around the pine needles and dry grasses for food. Lizards and frogs sunned themselves on smooth rocks and fallen branches, and mice skittered about bravely not far from where she stood.

It was almost surreal.

She realized Greenleaf was pretty much the perfect time to hunt as a small bird hopped within reach, oblivious to her presence. Taking her chance, Silentpaw leapt forward with unsheathed claws and caught the bird almost effortlessly. Within a heartbeat, many of the other birds had spread their wings and taken to the sky in a panicked flurry of feathers. She lifted her head to watch them make their escape as her catch dangled from her jaws.

Seeing the small feathered creatures and the sheer amount of freedom they possessed made her take pause. What if she were a bird? Maybe she could take flight just as easily. It would certainly make it easy to simply up and get away from here whenever she wanted. Turning away from the sky, she turned her gaze towards the path ahead of her.

Silentpaw began her walk back to camp, unable to stop herself from considering how nice having such an option would be.
