Shadows fall, Hope is lost [SC Flood Topic]

Firestone opened his eyes quickly, when the water froze his paws. At first, he was planning to complain about the den had a leak again and probably say to an apprentice to fix it. But when he saw more and more water around, the initial annoyance soon turned into panick and fear. The camp... was flooding! The large dappled warrior ran outside as fast he could and didn't even listen to his leader's words. There was just one thing in his mind: Redwing. The senior warrior ran into the flooding nursery, the water now reaching half of his legs and he ran to his daugher's side. "Get up, Redwing! We have to get you and the kits out og here!" He cried desperate before helping her to stand up.

Liontail was always a heavy sleeper, but even him woke up in a flash when he heard his father´s yowling outside, just to find himself being soaked by rushing water.

The warrior lowered his ears, understanding what was happening.

"Oh no..."

He couldn´t stand there! The kits were in danger! He jumped and rushed outside, finding Asterspark in the nursery already, so he stopped, there was already a lot of help in the nursery, so he changed directions and went to the elders, finding his father there.

"Dad!" he yowled, rushing in "I´m here to help you, let´s get the elders out!"

Redwing awoke to chaos- cats shouting and yelling. It wasn't hard to see why when she awoke. Ruverwater was seeping into the camp, at paw level now but soon to be higher. She controlled herself before panic set in, watching as cats ran in to help Thornbriar and glancing around worriedly for her kits. When they were all accounted for, she nodded to her father who came running in, smiling slightly to let him know she was okay. "Help me with the kits, let's get out of here." She grabbed a kit in her jaws and hurried out of the nursery, watching the crowd of Clanmates and hoping everyone was okay... and wishing Poppyheart was here to help.

Waking up with a jolt, Daisyflame quickly followed the rest of the warriors out of the den and to his surprise, the clan seemed to have begun to panic. Looking around through tired eyes, it looked as though water had begun to flood the camp floor. It wasn't a very large amount of water just yet, but who knew what it would grow into. Glancing around the frantic camp, the white and ginger warrior listened as Scorchstar ordered them to evacuate camp. Unfortunately, he was especially good at breaking his leader's orders when it came to protecting his best friend.

Running over to the leader's side, he gave him a swift dip of his. "Don't think for a moment that I'd even think of leaving without you," he mewed with a small smile as he followed Scorchstar over to the elder's den, where Crowfur was as well. As the trio began to nudge the old toms and she-cats out of their nests, Daisyflame noticed to the camp that was slowly but surely filling up with water. Great Silverpelt, they needed to get out of here and fast.

Really? She had survived thunderpaths, diseases, huge fights that left her bleeding out, attacks from predators, and so much more, but she would be killed by water? At first, Curlyfeather had tried to stand up. Once she felt the water pooling around her, her survival instinct kicked in and she tried to stand. Unfortunately, she could barely stand without water trying to sweep her off her feet. With only three legs for support, she was knocked down almost immediately. This StarClan-forsaken rain had started off as an annoyance, and now it was going to kill them all. Just her luck. Once again she tried to stand, but her skinny legs couldn't hold up against the water. It was more annoying than anything else. Probably the least honorable way to die was not being able to stand up in a thunderstorm. It wasn't until Crowfur nudged her that she even realized he was there. How had she missed him? It wasn't until then that the gravity of the situation really hit her. This wasn't just her life in danger, it was the entire clan's. Managing to stay in a sitting position, she tried to drag herself from the den, just to see the rest of camp just had even more water in it. She would have to swim through it and then walk through the torrents for quite a distance before she would be safe. Even if ten cats helped her, she wouldn't stand a chance. They would just be dragged down with her. Maybe in this situation, she could make her death more honorable by refusing help. She opened her mouth to say something so that she wouldn't take Crowfur down with her, and then closed it. Last time she had accepted death, she had just gotten more misery in life. Maybe she just had to fight through it. "Crowfur, I won't be able to get out of this without you. Please help, c'mon." With those words, she fought to her paws, leaning against the black tom for support, and managed to remain standing. Maybe there wasn hope, maybe there wasn't. Either way, she had lived a fulfilled life, but wasn't going to die giving up.

Crowfur nodded with a warm smile and carefully waded through the water, that was rising at a worrying rate, with Curlyfeather leaning against him. He saw Scorchstar helping their father so Crowfur knew Rowantalon was in good paws.

Soon he managed to get Curly to a part of the camp with less water. He was still waiting for instructions of where they would go evacuate to. In the meantime, he pressed himself against her even more as a way to tell her that eveything would be alright.

The dam is broken and ShadowClan must reach Highstones to survive. As the waters are too rough, to survive, each ShadowClanner must balance precariously on the hedges at the edge of ShadowClan territories to avoid being impaled to death/crushed/wounded/drowning. To see if your cat can hold on, roll the Hunting Die.

1-5 - You hold on.
6-10 - You fail, and get swept away... Who knows where you will go?

Disabled cats must roll 1-3 to make it.

All kits must be carried by a warrior or they get swept away by default.

Where to find the die?

Scorchstar turned to his eldest son Liontail, then his best friend Daisyflame, when they both approached either side of him. He nodded to them both, allowing them to stay and help Crowfur evacuate the elders. He turned to Rowantalon, but found he was struggling to the nursery. "Rowantalon!" he called out desperately. He waded through the water, trying to reach him as he was passing a kit he saved off to Asterspark, and all seemed safe. That was, until a particularly strong current swept the unbalanced elder off his feet. "No! Rowantalon!" He pushed through the current, trying to catch his father, but the elderly tom fell underneath the water's surface. The water was so murky, he couldn't find him, and he already knew it would be too late if he did try to save him. He had given his life to save his Clan's kit. Shutting his eyes tightly, trying to choke back tears, he murmured, "You have done this Clan such a grand service. Rest in StarClan, father. I love you."

Hearing another cry of his name, the leader turned to see his mate Minnowcall struggling to stand. Eyes wide, he rushed over to her, leaving the three warriors to help Curlyfeather, and he opened his mouth, about to call out to her. Before he could, however, a terrifying sound of rushing wind and crashing water drowned out every cat's voice. He turned his head to watch in absolute horror as a huge wave of water washed across the marshes, taking down the few pine trees, heading straight for camp. He turned to his fleeing Clanmates and screamed at the top of his lungs, "ShadowClan! Head towards Highstones! Do not head to WindClan territory! Highstones!" With a wave this huge, there would be no way WindClan's hills would be high enough to protect from this wave.

Then the terrifying wave crashed straight through the thorn barrier, taking it down completely. Scorchstar raced to his mate and yowled, "Minnowcall, don't worry!" before grasping her scruff once he reached her and flung her up on top of his broad shoulders. The next thing he knew, water crashed hard into him like a freezing-cold monster, and his entire world turned upside down.

Kicking out as hard as he could with all four paws, Scorchstar managed to break his head through the water's surface, taking in a gasp of air. He watched in horror as the wave relentlessly and mercilessly swept him and his mate -- who was still thankfully on her back -- away. Catching the pelt of his deputy and younger brother, he called out, "Wildstrike! Lead the Clan to Highstones!" Unable to save himself from getting swept away, he and Minnowcall both disappeared.

Asterspark turned sharply at the shouting from his grandfather. He stared at Rowantalon for a few seconds before leaping into action, quickly yet gently taking the kit from his grasp. He then watched in absolute horror as he lost his balance and got swept away. The current hadn't been strong enough to take out a healthy warrior, but it seemed to have proven itself fatal to a weakened elder. Great StarClan, what was happening?

Then he heard his father's frantic screeching over the thundering of an approaching tsunami. Turning tail, Asterspark raced after Thornbriar and helped her and Redwing herd the kits away to safety. Looking behind him, he saw the wave was practically upon him, and he quickly thrust the kit in his jaws at Redwing. "Take the kit and go! Now!" He nuzzled as many kits as he could after the queens before the wave crashed down on him. He didn't even know if the queens or kits had been able to escape safely or not....

The black and white warrior tried to help as fast as he could the elders, helping them to evacuate and follow the other cats, so far so good... or so he thought...

The loud sound made him jump and look at the same direction as his father, watching in horror how a huge wave was approaching, fast.

This made the warrior lower his ears and hiss in fear, there was no time! There were kits and elders there! he ran to the nearest kit and picked it up by the scruff, holding it firmly, refusing to let it go, and ran as his father commanded, thinking he was behind him he made it to the border barely.

Only to turn and see only water... and his father and mother being swept away in the current.

"DAD!" he yowled, still not letting the kit go, he couldn´t do anything! "I WILL FIND YOU!! I PROMISE! HOLD ON!! AND DON´T DIE!!"

Redwing was making her way towards the exit with her father, following Scorchstar desperately, when a giant wave of water appeared in the distance. Her eyes widened in panic, and she increased her speed, feeling the inexorable drive of a mother to save her kits, and the desire of an only daughter to save her father. But would she make it? She wasn't as fast as she used to be, and she was no WindClan cat... Asterspark sprinted by her, giving her the kit that he was holding, before running back to... to do what? She watched with horror as the wave grew ever faster... but then got ahold of herself and ran as fast as she could towards higher ground herself. Despite being out of shape, the queen managed to get to the edge of the territory and climb up on a hedge, two kits still dangling from her mouth. But her heart was still racing, and her panic rose with every second. Where were her other kits? Where was Firestone? What had happened to Asterspark? Oh please, oh please StarClan, let them be okay....

Ravenmist heard her father's call, remembering the approximate path she had taken on her Moonstone journey. Dashing towards it, she stumbled on a rock, falling to the ground as the wave engulfed her. I hate being blind. It was an odd last thought, but she didn't have much time to contemplate as she was swept away, managing to surface just often enough to breathe.
