Gentle Birdie:

It has been a while since she lost her eye. It's also been a while since she recovered. Birdflight was a strong she-cat. Both mentally and physically. She knew she'd be alright if her family and clan are still with her. Her mother, father, kits, and siblings. They were and are all there for her. She loved them dearly. She would never let an injury, severe or not, bring her spirits fully down. She did have her sad days but, everyone has those right? At least, that's what she tells herself.

It was early in the afternoon. Leafbare had come nipping at all their noses. It didn't bother Birdflight. She was used to this. She's been alive for a good amount of moons. She's had her fair share of cold. The calico warrior was laying at the clearing, paws tucked under her and eyes holding contentment. She felt relaxed like this. Although, she wouldn't mind some company though. A nice chat would be great.

Ferretpaw was coming back from a small outing in the brush, hoping to find some prey. Though her nose was strong enough, every scent she caught was stale. She fluffed up her short coat against the cold breeze as best as she could. It was little comfort to her frigid bones.

Despite the harshness of the season so far, with the flurries taking a toll on even youthful cats such as Ferretpaw, she retained a sense of optimism. She was of the opinion that ThunderClan was the hardiest clan of them all... even if she was not personally fairing well in the weather.

She spotted Birdflight across the way, resting her paws. Ferretpaw admired the she-cat. Ferretpaw had often snuck a few peeks at the warrior's missing eye and likened it to the face she saw in puddles staring back at her. Ferretpaw's clouded left eye was of little consequence to her at the best of times. She had grown used to it. She had worked around it so far in her apprenticeship. Though, some things bothered her, like when a fellow apprentice would sneak up on her bad side and give her a fright.

Nevertheless, the poor short-coated apprentice loved to talk and needed an excuse to share body heat. "Hi, Birdflight! How's the weather treating you?" she joked sarcastically, shaking snowflakes off her pelt.

The calico she-cat purred in amusement as she caught the clear sarcasm in Ferretpaw's voice. "Not much better as it is you, Ferretpaw. How's your training been? I hope your mentor been pushing you hard. Thunderclan can't have lazy apprentices at this time." The warrior's tone of voice was playful when she spoke the last two statements. The she-cat then got up on her paws and sat down. She was done laying down. It was better for her to sit when she spoke.
