Hunting Patrol for Brackenpaw (closed)

Sitting near the camp entrance with his eyes closed, was Smokepelt, who was waiting for his apprentice to wake up and join him. A chilly morning breeze ruffled his dark grey pelt, sending a shiver up his spine. Today, he'd take the younger tom on a hunting patrol and teach him the basics of how to be a good hunter, seeing as though the clan needed as much prey as possible with Leafbare approaching.

The sun shined into the apprentice den, successfully hitting Brackenpaw's closed eyes. The brown tom's eyes slowly blinked open. He groaned when he realized the time to sleep was over and he had to get up to continue with his warrior training. He forced his body to stand up and padded out of the warm den. He scanned the camp, looking for his mentor, Smokepelt. He spotted the tom resting near the camp's entrance. Brackenpaw made his way over to him. "Good morning!" He did his best to sound awake but failed, as his voice came out hoarse and sleep-filled.

"Morning. Today, we'll be hunting," he replied bluntly. Standing up, he gave his pelt a shake and made his way towards the camp entrance. "Let's go," the tall, husky voiced warrior mewed, and with that, trotted through the camp entrance and out of camp.

Brackenpaw nodded and wordlessly followed Smokepelt through the camp entrance.

Making their way through the territory, Smokepelt kept quiet as he held a steady pace. Opening his jaw and sniffing the air, the warrior caught the scent of rabbit nearby but didn't say anything about it. "What do you smell?" the tom asked Brackenpaw, wondering if the younger cat could smell it too.

Brackenpaw paused, opening his mouth and inclining his head upwards to sniff the air. "I think... I smell something that doesn't smell like a cat?" The tabby tom spoke in a quiet voice, careful not to scare off any prey.

OOC: omg pls forgive me for the wait ;;;

IC: "A rabbit, yes," Smokepelt mewed in a hushed tone. "What do you know about hunting?" the tall warrior asked, curious as to if his apprentice had any prior knowledge at all on the subject.

Brackenpaw nodded, making a mental note of what the rabbit smelled like. "Um, you chase the rabbit until you can pounce onto it?"

Shaking his head Smokepelt crouched down. "Keep everything low, especially your tail. Don't let it show above the grass and make any noises," he began, looking up to Brackenpaw. "When you take a step, step lightly. The worst thing you can do is make a noise that would alert prey," the grey and white tom mewed. "You try," he finished, standing up.

OOC: no problem, 'cause me too xD

Brackenpaw watched the gray tom's hunting stance carefully. He hunched down, doing his best to mimic it perfectly. Slowly, the apprentice started making his way to the rabbit. Finally, he felt he was close enough to the oblivious hare. He launched his body onto the rabbit, before locking his jaws onto it's neck, giving it a quick death.

Watching as the apprentice tried, Smokepelt was surprised at how quickly he caught on and even caught his first piece of prey. "Good catch," the older tom began. "But remember to keep your tail low," he added bluntly. "Now you try tracking down some prey."

Opening his jaw slightly, the apprentice focused all his senses onto finding prey. He caught wind of a rather puny looking hare. He locked his eyes onto the oblivious grey rodent that was scavenging for food. "I see a rabbit!" Brackenpaw exclaimed in a hushed sort of shout.

"Well, go try and catch it," Smokepelt mewed stoically after his apprentice spoke.
