"Scarletsong told me ye'd take me oot for ay hoont." the large, ginger tabby mewed, inexpressive and rather harshly to the older warrior, Dustcloud. The last step of her apprenticeship - demonstrating her ability to one of the older warriors. Huffing and without tallying much longer or waiting for the other to say anything in response, Thornpaw had already sped away on a worn hunting path, swerving into the forest but making sure her trail wasn't too twisted to follow.

Dustcloud, albeit her age was slowly beginning to get an edge on her, was quickly able to pop up from her place in the shade at Thornpaw's call. Scarletsong had indeed set the two up on a patrol, possibly something similar to an assessment if it came down to it. Making sure to keep Thornpaw's scent clear as she walked down the hunting path that she'd memorized over the seasons. Whenever she caught the sight of the young she-cats pelt, she called out to her, as they were at a good stopping point. "Thornp-paw, we c-can start h-here." She mewed pointedly, blue eyes locked on the apprentices.

The young she-cat halted at the other's call, stopping in her tracks to scent the air. Smells of the forest mingled - prey, trees, ThunderClan itself, coming to her in waves. After a moment of silence, she picked apart the trace of a squirell nearby, blissfully unaware of the hunting she-cats searching so close by. Dropping down in a crouch, the large apprentice sneaked forward, slithering with her body close to the dry, Newleaf soil, parting her jaws in anticipation. The scent was warm, bloody, and it made her stomach grumble, but she didn't let mindless hunger overtake her senses as she conjured all of those moons of training in her aid. Now she could almost see her prey, dark brown and well-fed, digging around the roots of a bush. Quick as a flash, the cat bolted forward, smashing the small body into the ground before picking it up in her mouth and flinging it into the air, watching it fall lifelessly at her paws.

Nodding at the apprentice as she successfully made the first catch, Dustcloud strayed just a little to do some hunting of her own. She made sure to keep Thornpaw's scent fresh as she sniffed the air, not wanting her to get off track, which too often ended in border skirmishes. Smiling as she caught the scent of a squirrel in the distance, she made sure that she was downwind and followed after it. With great practice an expertise, she launched herself at the bushy-tailed creature, pinning it down quickly. She bit down as quickly as she could, not wanting the small creature to suffer any longer than it had to. After it was done, she burried it where she stood and said a quiet 'thank you' to StarClan for their generosity.
