Barleykit's Apprentice Ceremony

Swiftstep hopped up onto the Tallrock, a cheerful grin on his face. Windclan was getting stronger and bigger each day. Today, a lucky kit would be sleeping with the apprentices that night. The deputy composed himself before beginning. Even if his face said otherwise, the brown tom was very joyful on the inside. "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather underneath the Tallrock for a Clan meeting!" Swiftstep called with an authoritative tone.

The deputy looked down upon the young tom before he continued, "We all gather here today to make one of our kits an apprentice. Barleykit, please step forward." Once the kit did, the deputy nodded approvingly and then began to speak again, "Barleykit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Barleypaw. Since I am ready to take on a new apprentice, I will be your mentor. I will pass on all my knowledge onto you."

Swiftstep hopped down from the Tallrock and touched his nose to Barleypaw's as a definitive end to the ceremony. "Your training will start tomorrow at dawn. Be sure to rest young one." The deputy smiled gently before walking off to finish some of his camp duties.

The experience was electrifying for Barleykit - Barleypaw now. Any cat could feel the pride radiating from the newly appointed Apprentice, and his purr could be felt through his whiskers when his new mentor, Swiftstep - the deputy! - touched noses with him. "I will!" Barleypaw promised. When the deputy stepped away Barleypaw leaped to his parents, squealing with joy.
