Excursion of the Jay Blue and the Kittens [CLOSED]

The leader left his den silently, missing somehow seeing his clanmates. It was ironic. A cat like him, who always tried to avoid any interaction was now searching for the company he missed alone in his den as the leader. Jaystar was still shy and had difficulties to express his true emotions and opening up to others but due to his age and experience, he had learned to control that enough to at least not look like a scared kit all the time.

The tall tom greeted some of the warriors who just woke up as he made his way to the apprentice den. As the leader, he never had many chances to go out on a hunting patrol with the young members of his clan as he used to do when he was the deputy but today was going to be different. He entered his head into the den and glanced at the sleeping apprentices with a small smile. "Sorry for interrupting your rest. I know it's early but I'm going to lead a patrol. This is not an order... Anyone who wants to join is free to do it. Flamepaw, you should come too." He purred with a gentle smile before leaving the den, waiting for the young cats to come. Maybe he should bring a warrior too...

Flurrypaw growled softly as the den was filled with an unwanted voice. She recognized it to belong to RiverClan's leader, but she was a little too tired and grouchy to show any proper respect. Lifting up her head, she glared at what she could see of the large bluish-gray tabby tom and muttered loud enough for him to hear, "Count me out. It's too early for me to care about the Clan right now." She rolled over in her nest and buried her face in her paws, trying to fall back asleep.

(OOC: For disrespect towards the Clan leader, she shall be forced to come along with Flamepaw! XD)

Arousing from slumber, Milkpaw blinked sleepily and listened to a familiar male voice ring throughout the apprentice's den. As the blue tom finished his statements, Milkpaw was wide awake and ready to start the day, giving herself only a few needed licks on the back of her pelt and a few quick stretches. A patrol with the leader and the other apprentices? She couldn't miss this! Hurriedly, but carefully, she stepped out of the cramped den and scampered over to Jaystar. Glancing at her surroundings, the white she-cat realized she was the first to get up for the patrol and felt a little bit of pride warm her body. Smiling at Jaystar warmly, she purred happily and sat down next to him, waiting for other apprentices to come along.

OOC: do you think they know they're related? jaystar is milkpaw's (and flurrypaw's) great great uncle or something like that

Flamepaw slid past Flurrypaw, making sure to "accidentally" mess up the white shecat's pelt while she was at it. "Hello, Milkpaw. How'd you sleep?" she asked, silently hoping for small talk.

The leader frowned at Flurrypaw's words. He wasn't as strict as Silverfang but he couldn't allow an apprentice to think like that. That was why he entered the den and this time, he called for a specific apprentice. "Flurrypaw, you're coming with us. It seems you need extra lessons on how to be a warrior." He ordered before returning to the other two apprentices.

In the end, Jaystar decided he could handle three apprentices for a while. The patrol wasn't going to last for too long so it would go pretty fine. "Okay, now that we're all here, let's start. Follow me." The leader walked outside the camp, guiding the apprentices.

He knew his lands well so it didn't take too much time for him to find a perfect place for hunting. With a purr, he turned his body to the rest of the apprentices. "We're going to hunt here. Don't wander too far from me and you can hunt in pairs if you want. If you do a good job, I'll make sure to inform your mentors." He gave Flurrypaw a demanding glance and then he laid his eyes on Flamepaw. He nodded, trying to reassure her that she was going to be fine as long as she obeyed the rules of the clan.

Flurrypaw huffed grumpily and stalked out after the RiverClan leader, her tail twitching irritably. She just wanted to sleep. When she and the other apprentices had been dismissed, she immediately turned away from the river to hunt further inland. She was nowhere ready to try fishing; her training to get used to the water with Dewshine was still at its earliest stages, as she had always been too afraid of water to practice swimming as a kit.

She picked up the scent of mouse immediately, and she dropped down into a hunter's crouch. Spotting the rodent, she slowly crept towards it. When she felt she was close enough, she pounced and landed squarely on its back, leaning down quick to nip the back of its neck. Pride surged through her, and she looked up towards the leader, hoping that he had seen her expert kill.

"Hello, Flamepaw," Milkpaw softly repeated back to Flamepaw with a kind smile. "I slept well. Did you?" she asked politely but didn't get to hear the fellow apprentice's answer as Jaystar returned, her sister irritably following soon after. The creamy-white she-cat smiled at Flurrypaw as she came along, silently reassuring her that an early patrol wouldn't be that bad.

Milkpaw glanced apologetically at Flamepaw for having to end their conversation early but brightly continued after Jaystar as he led the 3 apprentices into RiverClan territory. She smiled at the leader before heading off, despite the blue tom not looking at her directly.

Tasting the air, Milkpaw searched around RiverClan territory for any unlucky prey that happened to be nearby, but still made sure she was within eyeshot of Jaystar. Sniffing rapidly, she finally caught a trace of lizard. Her amber eyes searched for the target until she spotted an average-sized swamp-green lizard, and started creeping towards it. The white apprentice didn't exactly know the best technique for hunting lizards, but hey, it was worth a shot, wasn't it? She knew the basics of hunting, and that was all that mattered to get a decent chance of catching any prey. Stalking the unaware, scaled creature, it was not long before Milkpaw leaped. She had gotten a claw-hold of the lizard, but it scurried out of her grasp. Despite the failed catch, she kept her positive attitude and searched for more prey.
