The Tiger and the Panther {CLOSED}

The tall tom looked back at his clanmate, making she was following him. Poplartooth ordered them to go on a hunting patrol together this morning and he didn’t complain. However, he felt uneasy. Last time he patrolled it didn’t end well because he was too harsh. Pantherblaze didn’t know Tigerleaf really well so he wasn’t sure how would she see him. Thanks to his angered personality, the tom didn’t have many friends except, maybe, for Elmcloud. He wouldn’t be surprised if Tigerleaf ended up hating him too. ”I think we’re good here.” He mewed jumping off the branch where he was checking the land.

Tigerleaf craned her neck as she strained to see the tom among the twisting branches above. The sunlight was shining from an angle that made it rather uncomfortable to look up. At Pantherblaze's descent, she finally pulled her gaze away, blinking with a slight relief. For her first patrol as a warrior, the striped she-cat had been assigned with a tom she had never really talked to before. Although she didn't know much about him, Tigerleaf had heard from those around her that he was a cat with a bad temper. As a result, she was rather nervous. She still had yet to say more than a few words ever since leaving camp. "...Okay." With a slight dip of her head, she indicated that she understood. "Should we split up, or stay together...?"

Pantherblaze looked at the she-cat quietly and thought about her question for a few seconds before answering. Then, he lifted his shoulders and even gave her a careless smirk that wasn’t usual in him. ”Well, you’re a warrior now. You’ve recently earned your independence and even if I didn’t talk to you as an apprentice, I’m sure you have proven your worth. You’re free hunt where you want.” He purred but with a serious expression. The tom was always straightforward when he wanted to express his ideas and wasn’t lying when he said that to the newly appointed warrior.

The tom flicked his tail, announcing he would walk away for a while and he searched quickly for a Bird. But what he found was worse. A huge shadow crossed the sky and when the tortie cat lifted his head toward it, he saw a giant eagle flying over the younger warrior. Immediately, he ran back just in time when the predator attacked. With a hiss, he pushed the she-cat away and the claws of the animal sunk into his back.

It happened in a flash. The shadow that suddenly fell over Tigerleaf was her only clue. With a start, she jerked her gaze upwards. The massive bird, the flash of hooked talons that would not lose to a cat's claws--such a scene was reflected within her wide-opened yellow eyes. Huh? Were there birds that big? The astonished thought flashed through the young she-cat's mind as she froze, too stunned to move. It was too late to run. Just when the eagle seemed to be right in her face, she suddenly felt strong paws push her out of the way. Stumbling to the side, Tigerleaf whirled around to see what had happened. The sight of blood blossoming on dark fur gave her a cold shock. Pantherblaze had protected her.

Despite having become a warrior, she was still weak, causing trouble for others. She was no different from her apprentice self. She had thought that she had grown, and Pantherblaze had said so too. Had she been wrong? A dull pain pierced her heart at the realization. At the same time, the striped warrior let out a snarl of fury towards the eagle. Before it could fly up into the sky again, she leaped at it with paws outstretched. Cat and eagle tumbled to the ground in a flurry of feathers. Those were some large wings, and they were strong... Gritting her teeth, Tigerleaf fought hard to hold down the wildly thrashing creature. "I'm sorry! Are you okay?!" While she really wanted to, she didn't have the leeway to turn around. She could only hope that the older tom's injuries weren't deep.

”Don’t worry! It’s nothing. Just keep that eagle down!” Pantherblaze shouted, ignoring the blood that was coming out of his wounds. The tom knew they didn’t have many chances to kill the huge bird... but at least they should try to scare it away leaving it scars the predator wouldn’t forget. With a hiss, he launched himself against to battle and slashed the bird’s face.

Tigerleaf hardly had time to be relieved that Pantherblaze was okay. The eagle struggled furiously beneath her, anger at being held down and attacked blazing in its dark eyes. Suddenly, one wing wrenched free. The striped warrior just barely managed to avoid getting hit in the face by the flailing appendage. Hissing, she fought to hold down the wing again. If that were not already enough, there were the eagle's talons to look out for as well. They sliced through the air, deadly sharp.

The eagle finally broke free from the she-cat's grip and with a fiery yowl, it took flight and attacmed her with its claws aiming to her neck. But yet again, the tortie warrior was there.

Pantherblaze noticed that the predator would escape so he quickly pretended to run away but instead, he climbed a tree and waited for the moment the animal attacked. With a jump, he fell on its back, his claws slashing its wings as they fell together. However, he couldn't avoid the damage completely and the eagle's claws still reached his clanmate's back.

Tigerleaf's hold on the eagle was slipping. Finally, with a mighty flap of its wings, it threw the newly appointed warrior off, effectively freeing itself. An oomph escaped her jaws as she crashed into the ground after being flung backwards. The striped she-cat staggered back up to her paws, her bright yellow eyes already searching for the eagle. Out of the corner of her eye, she caught sight of Pantherblaze making his escape. Any protests she might have made died in her throat as she saw the eagle flying towards her at a frightening speed. Panicking, she scrambled to dodge. The results of those wickedly sharp talons tearing through her throat did not need to be pointed out.

Once again, however, the eagle failed to reach her. Pantherblaze pounced from the tree above unto the bird of prey. In a flurry of fur and feathers, the two descended to the ground. One taloned foot(?) lashed out, catching Tigerleaf. She let out a hiss as sharp pain lanced through her back. She could feel the warmth of blood welling from her wounds. Gritting her teeth, she leaped at the prone eagle, assailing it with unsheathed claws.

The wound was starting to ache and he was losing strength because of the blood loss but Pantherblaze knew he couldn’t give up yet. Not only for his own life but for the young she-car who had fought by his side. She was unexperienced and weaker but she had courage. The eagle, in his last moments, tried to slash his face but the warrior was faster. He dodged the attack and slashed its troath. The blood started to pour from the open wound and the huge bird fell, unable to move anymore.

Pantherblaze’s claws were covered with feather and blood but he didn’t mind it. He looked at the dead predator with satisfaction and then turned his face to check on Tigerleaf. ”Are you okay?” He mewed approaching her wound to the state of it. He wasn’t a medicine cat but he could tell that it wasn’t as bad as he thought. She would recover.

The eagle crumpled to the ground upon Pantherblaze's claws flying across its throat. Tigerleaf eyed the great bird warily, but when the seconds had ticked by and it continued to remained motionless, she knew it was really dead. The eagle's yellow eyes stared blankly back at her. Its "pelt", which had once appeared majestic, was now ruffled and torn. When the striped warrior stepped forward, the blood-soaked dirt squished beneath her paws, causing her to grimace slightly. Bits of feathers still drifted in the air.

"I'm fine." She mewed hastily when Pantherblaze approached. She couldn't really see the extent of the wound as it was on her back, but the pain was bearable. "What about you?" She eyed his bloodied pelt, worry visible in her golden eyes. Just like hers, it didn't seem to be too bad, but she couldn't help feeling guilty. "I'm sorry... it's my fault you got hurt. You saved me twice, thank you..." Once when the eagle had appeared, and another time in the middle of the fight. Her injuries would probably be a lot worse if it wasn't for the older warrior's aid. In fact, she might even be dead. She hung her head, gazing down at her paws.
