The pale hues of the late morning sky twisted and shimmered with the first true heat of the season, the heavy greenery that resided within the camp wilting slightly as a result. The smooth, well-worn stone of the Tallrock was simmering with the heat of the day as Brindlewhisker settled herself atop the ceremonial seat. Straightening up, the Deputy’s voice rang out with a sharp note of purpose as she called out the familiar summons, ”Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather underneath the Tallrock for a Clan meeting!"

Heatherkit trembled with excitement. Today was the day! Eagerly, she met with her mother and the other kits outside with the rest of Windclan. It was time for her apprentice ceremony.

Could one ever tire of the sight of kits so exuberant and hopeful about the future that laid before them?

Neatly winding her tail around her paws, Brindlewhisker allowed herself the briefest of simpers as she gazed down at Heatherkit. Surely there was nothing as sweet. Only when the last stragglers made their way to the loosely formed ring of cats did she finally raise her voice once more. "Heatherkit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to find your place among the Clan." She began, voice carrying a sharp and determined undercurrent, "From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Heatherpaw. Poppycloud shall be your mentor and I am confident that she'll pass down everything she has learned."

Poppycloud smiled, crossing to her new apprentice. "Congratulations, Heatherpaw," she mewed, bending to brush noses with the she-cat. "I'll be expecting you to work hard and always do your best." She stepped back and nodded at Heatherpaw.

Quivering both from nerves and excitement, the newly named Heatherpaw eagerly brushed noses with her new mentor. She had been admiring Poppycloud since she was able to leave the nursery, and now, she was her mentor! Taking a deep breath, she spoke in the most grown-up voice she could muster.
