Hunting time (Closed)

Another day, another hunting patrol. Featherheart smiled up at the sky and the canopy of newly budding tree leaves above. A soft breeze that wasn't bitterly cold ruffled his fur and made him purr with contentment. It was perfect conditions for a hunt. Newleaf was officially here, and that meant prey. Lots of it. He could practically hear the scurrying already as he looked at Marshpaw who was resting after a border patrol. His eys caught another, smaller, apprentice. Perfect.

"Marshpaw, Smokepaw, feel like getting out of camp for a bit? We can brush up on your hunting skills." He offered, his smile still on his muzzle.

The dark tabby looked up at Featherheart. His paws were slightly sore from being out on border patrol, but he needed this. More importantly, he needed to build up his stamina again. With a sigh, he stood. Being camp-bound hadn't done him any favors in keeping his body in condition. Still, a hunt would be nice.

"Sure. Let's make those mice quiver in fear." He turned to Smokepaw as his fellow apprentice was addressed. When Smokepaw agreed, he padded towards the entrance behind Featherheart. Despite his exhaustion, his pelt pricked with enthusiasm for a good hunt.

Smokepaw nodded and followed the two. He didn't really know them but this was a great chance to get to know clan members. "sorry if I'm a little rusty I haven't trained much." he said and bounded next to them. His adopted mother who was also his mentor was busy training her other apprentice to train him that much.

Featherheart purred supportively at Smokepaw's apology. He let Marshpaw go on ahead of them as he matched his pace to Smokepaw's to talk to him.
"Hm... well, if your mentor is busy, you're welcome to join Boarpaw and I in our training sessions." He offered with a cheerful smile. His head turned when he noticed Marshpaw stopped moving ahead of them. The older apprentice was sniffing a spot on the ground, but then moved off. Featherheart paused, then sniffed the same place.

A bird had been here recently. No, it was still here. His ears caught the sound of a peck against the ground. He flattened immediately and slowly stalked forward. His paws barely made a noise as he crouched and readied himself for the launch when a sound distracted him.

A sharp cracking from the bushes as a red furred shape leapt out from them. Featherheart yowled angrily as the fox's jaws closed in the space he had just been.

Smokepaw had no battle training and stayed in place from fear. This was his first time seeing a fox and he was frozen in place with shock. The red orange creature was bigger than he was with a Lang nose and big bushy tail. He stared at it to scare s to move.

The large red and white fox lunged forward at Featherheart, the orange tom slashed a furious claw against the beast's snout with a fierce hiss. His green eyes blazed as he darted around to it's flank and raked his claws down its side even as it's maw came down to bite him viciously at the top of the leg. Featherheart felt a gasp break through his maw as he was tossed away from it and onto the ground near Smokepaw. Blood leaving a track on the dirt as Featherheart stood his ground determinedly.

"Use your claws, and go for the back or flank. Stay away from it's jaws." He advised to Smokepaw as he prowled towards the fox who yelped and stumbled as a dark tabby launched itself at the fox's side. Marshpaw let out a furious yowl as he slashed, then jumped back as the fox swung around to try and grab him. He spat at the creature and watched it's dark eyes track him as he skirted around a bush and up a tree just in time as it lunged for him.

Taking walks in the forest alone was just so peaceful. It allowed Wisteriapool to take her mind off of things and just focus on the steadiness of her breathing, her heartbeat, and the soft crunching noises that her paws created as they made contact with the ground. Inhaling some of the fresh new-leaf air, the ginger-and-white she-cat continued on her silent trek through the territory. She almost jumped out of her fur when she began to hear noises; specifically yowls and hisses. She recognized that hiss... a fox must've been near, and cats must've been fighting it. It would be completely wrong for her to pass by a ThunderClan patrol that could be losing terribly to the merciless claws and teeth of a fox. Picking up her pace to a spring, the ThunderClanner headed towards the source of the sound. When she emerged from the bushes, she came into contact with the tail of a white-and-red creature. The fox was facing away from her. Featherheart, Marshpaw, and Smokepaw came into view almost instantly.

Wisteriapool decided to use a sneak attack to her advantage. She raced forwards as quick as she possibly could and tackled the fox with a yowl of anger.

(OOC: Shall we kill the fox or let it run?)

For a moment Featherheart felt as if death itself was staring him in the eyes as the fox turned to a cat easier to reach. A cat who was too injured to move as swift as he liked. The orange tom bristled and hissed, his bleeding leg moved sluggishly and dragged on the forest floor as he leapt away from the jaws of death. The fox pulled up and barked shortly as a second orange and white cat launched herself at the fox.

Featherheart blinked, then felt an immense joy flood his pelt. Wisteriapool. Now they had this, the fox couldn't take them all on as he launched to use the fox's distraction to his advantage and raked his claws over the fox's hindquarters. His injured leg still dug it's claws deep into it, pulling out tufts of red fur to the forest floor as Marshpaw plunged in for a damaging belly blow. White fur joined the red on the ground as the orange tom was bucked off the fox's back. It's head twisted and slammed into Wisteriapool, then turned to face Smokepaw with glittering eyes.

Wisteriapool let out a surprised, painful shriek as the fox slammed its head into her. Pain shot through her entire body and she fell to the ground in an ungraceful heap. She couldn't just lay there, though. She had to continue to fight. After waiting for the opportunity to strike, the ginger-and-white warrior leaped forwards and tackled the fox once again. This time, though, she managed to hold it down. Taking advantage of this, the claws on her hind paws slipped out, and she began to claw away at the fox's ginger belly fur. This fox wouldn't- couldn't win.

Smokepaw watched as the warriors even marshpaw fighted well. He wish he was good at fighting like them but knew her couldn't. He looked into the foxes angry eyes and pelt a pang of sadness. All this fox wanted to do was get food to feed its family. Smokepaw sat there staring until he knew that if he hurt it one more time it wouldn't die but if the warriors did it would die and he wasn't going to be the one who killed it. Smokepaw walked up to the pinned fox and raised his paw. He scratched the foxes face leaving three new bloody cuts.

Sharptooth had been patrolling alone when she had first heard the sounds of battle ahead. She had begun to trail her children's patrols whenever they left; the anxiety whenever any of her kin left the camp nearly drove her crazy otherwise. The short-legged she-cat hissed softly and trotted faster, her tattered ears pricked. Perhaps it was a different patrol...
She was wrong. The fluffy tabby ducked around a tree and froze, sudden fear making her heart stop. She barely registered the scene before her- two of her children facing a fox, accompanied two mere apprentice -before she launched into action. With a loud roar, Sharptooth threw herself on top of the fox, hissing and spitting madly. Sheer anger alone brought the fox to its knees, and then Sharptooth was digging her claws into it's shoulders, sending fur and blood flying. "Smokepaw!" She bellowed, her dull green eyes flashing as the apprentice attacked feebly. "This is a matter of life and death! Either attack with all your might or run for help!"

Sharptooth used Leap-And-Hold, dealing 13 damage and using 10 SP. The fox is stunned for 2 turns.

Featherheart reared up to slash the fox with his open claws while the fox was distracted by Smokepaw. He hissed and clawed out clumps of fur as the bleeding fox turned on him. The orange tom barely had time to register the teeth that flashed in his periphery before he found himself thrown. The loud roar of Sharptooth startled the fox enough to stop it from chasing the now immobile tom who lay bleeding on the dirt. Stunned and nearly unconcious as the creature fell to Sharptooth's mighty blows.

The dark tabby tom raced over to Featherheart's side the moment the fox began it's death cry. It was over. The fox would never move again, but the damage had already been done. He nudged at Featherheart's head encouragingly as the younger tom's tail flicked weakly and he tried to stand. His paws and legs shook violently and he found himself falling back to the forest floor with a pained groan.

"Wisteriapool! Sharptooth! Smokepaw!" Marshpaw called as he pushed gently at Featherheart's pelt. "We need to get him back to the medicine den... Smokepaw! Go fetch Mapleleaf!" He ordered the younger apprentice as he tried to push himself under the smaller tom's body to help lift and support him. He tried to ignore the blood that trickled from his leg and mouth. The tree Featherheart had been thrown into stained with blood from the concussive blow.
