Nightpaw's Hunting Patrol [Closed]

Ravenflight nosed Nightpaw awake. "Nightpaw? I know it's early... we're going on a patrol. Time to get up!" She padded quickly to the camp entrance to wait for her apprentice.

Nightpaw groaned as she felt something prodding her side. She opened her eyes and saw Ravenfeather hovering over her. She got up, and followed her mentor. Not long after they left camp Nightpaw took off and stood alongside the river. She soon found the shadow of a fish in the water, and she darted at it with a paw, flicking it out of the water. Once it was on the bank of the river she held it down with her paws so it wouldn't wiggle away. She bit its neck, killing it, and buried the fish.

"Nice catch, Nightpaw," Ravenflight nodded approvingly. She sat down at the riverbank, in turn scanning the rushing water for any sign of prey. Something silver flashed in front of her, so she dashed her paw through the water. The fish flopped on the ground beside her for a moment before she killed it with a hard blow from her paw. "Keep hunting, Nightpaw. Try hunting two more pieces of prey," she instructed.

Nightpaw got up from the river and walked away, not too far from Ravenflight. She soon scented a wood pigeon. She followed the scent until she saw it pecking at a tree root. She carefully crept up on it, making sure she didn't make noise, and when she was close enough, she jumped. Unfortunately Nightpaw over jumped it and missed.

"Good try. We learn from our mistakes," she nodded to Nightpaw, indicating that she should continue. She turned away from her apprentice, noting a small bird pecking around the roots of a tree. Ravenflight stalked it silently, pouncing once she judged the distance just right. She caught it and killed it swiftly, turning to watch her apprentice's next catch.

Nightpaw smiled at her mentor, and then went the opposite direction. She sniffed the air, picking up the scent of water vole. She saw the small creature gnawing on weeds near the riverbank. She stalked it, her tail in the air, and then lept. The vole must've seen her coming. because it fled right before she lept. She changed her mind and sat where the vole was on the riverbank. She waited ntil she saw the shadow of a fish in the water. She thought quickly and swatted it out from the shallow water, and killed it with a blow from her paw.

Satisfied, Ravenflight padded back to the riverbank. A swift-moving fish caught her eye, so she swiped her paw through the water. She caught it with her unsheathed claws and killed it. She gathered the rest of her prey in her mouth and crossed to Nightpaw. "Good job today. Let's head back to camp now." The grey warrior smiled contentedly through her mouthful of prey as she led her apprentice back to camp.
