But still, anger burned in his veins and he tried to keep up his strength. But like all good things, it had to come to an end. As his back legs weakened, so did his grip, and as the fox shook about he was flung off. Somehow he still managed to land on his feet, ready to attack once again. For his kits.

All of Nectarleap's muscles screamed in agony, both from his wounds and how he was straining them. But determination a pure fiery rage burned through the pain, and the warrior turned to face the fox. With a fierce yowl, he jumped back onto his hind legs, bringing his paws down on the brute's head, taking all of his weight with them. It was a trick that would only work when his opponent was tired, so now it worked wonders. Though he wasn't a large cat, he was rather muscular. So all of his combined strength was enough the smash the fox's head into the ground. Growling, he took only a moment to kick dirt into the dead creature's face. Served it right for attacking his kits. Then he didn't waste a moment before rushing over to Willowpaw's side. He was breathing. A wave of overwhelming relief flooded over him. Checking Shadepaw, he realized that she was in a similar state. Sitting back on his hunches, he let out a few deep breath. They were still alive. Dragging them closer to each other, he realized that he would not be able to get them back to camp. Just one would be easy, but both would take well over twice as much time and strength. And he didn't want to risk making their wounds even worse. So he needed to wake them up. Licking their face, he tried to get some sort of reaction. His kits couldn't die.

The fox gasped out one last breath before a straight-out blackness overtook its vision, and soon mind. But... his mate and kits...

Willowpaw stirred. "Wake up, wake up, wake up..." The fox had been so strong... was he in Starclan? Had it broken his back? Was he dead? He slowly opened his bright blue eyes. Nectarleap was there, covered in wounds. It had been his's voice that shook Willowpaw out of his unconsciousness. Shadepaw was also close, unconscious like he had been just a second ago. He tried to sit up, moving slowly since he might be weak. "You killed the fox," He commented plainly, not sure what else to say.

Shadepaw was wakened by her father licking her face. She groaned. She felt weak, her muscles ached. She looked up and saw Nectarleap, and beyond him, a dead fox. She felt her brother next to her, he was sitting up. We have to go back to camp She realized. She groaned again, and pushed herself up.
