Run like The Wind [closed]

Diligently picking her way through the snow with a vapid sigh, Brindlewhisker shook several sleet-like clumps of snow away from her paws as she settled down beside the prickly gorse barrier. Although the constant snow and frigid weather seemed to be relenting, much of the snow and ice that had accumulated on the moor over the past few moons seemed to stubbornly remain. Even if the weather was quite a pain, they still had to attend to their duties as normal- even if it meant trekking through the sludge-like snow to check borders and hunt prey.

Using a careful claw to pick away a particularly stubborn clump of snow, Brindlewhisker wrapped her tail tightly around her forepaws as she waited for Thistlepaw to join her.

Thistlepaw walked right up to Brindlewhisker with his normal poker face. He was eager to learn and ready for any challange. The young tom nodded a polite greeting and waited for her to proceed. His thin coat of fur made his chills worse but like always, he didn't show it.

"I appreciate the fact that you didn't keep me waiting, Thistlepaw." Brindlewhisker offered a short, friendly praise to her newest apprentice. Rising to her full height, the brindled she-cat gestured for the young tom to follow her before she started off, carefully forging a way through the deeper snow so that Thistlepaw could follow with ease. Feeling her teeth chatter slightly, the Deputy continued to work her way through the snow, occasionally throwing a glance back at Thistlepaw as she did so. "The weather is quite unpleasant today, but it will provide an excellent learning opportunity for you. If you can learn to hunt in snow like this, you'll find yourself able to hunt in any condition." Brindlewhisker mewed, slowing her pace so that she could walk alongside Thistlepaw.

Thistlepaw nodded, understanding what she was saying. He felt his paws go numb in the snow but paid no attention. They were going to be in snow for the rest of the day, might as well get used to it. Hunting seemed to be a nice choice of activity.

Exhaling another vivid cloud of steaming white breath, Brindlewhisker's claws ached slightly as she continued to pad through the snow alongside Thistlepaw. Leafbare hadn't seemed this cold whenever she was younger! Forging ahead once more, she scaled a small, frigid stone that laid in their path before twisting around to gaze at the apprentice. "WindClan relies on our speed when it comes to both battles and hunting, but you'll find that snow slows you down more than you'd think." She mewed, teeth chattering slightly as she spoke, "So you'll just have to learn how to be faster and smarter. If the snow slows you down, it'll do the same to your prey."

Gesturing to a small, lightly colored shape against the snow, Brindlewhisker leaned closer to Thistlepaw before whispering, "See that hare? It's only a few tail-lengths away and upwind of it- perfect conditions for you to try and hunt it." Pulling away from the young tom, the Deputy remained completely still atop the stone as she waited for her apprentice to strike.

IC:) After Brindlewhisker turned away, Thistlepaw nodded and crouched down. His form wasn't the greatest but he didn't get spotted as he inched closer. The tom quickly pounced on the hare. Thistlepaw had the creature between his paws. He bit it's neck to kill it and grabbed it with his jaws. He brought it over to his mentor and set it down. "How did I do?" he asked while looking away.

Eyes screwing up against the frigid breeze, Brindlewhisker remained seated as she intently gazed at Thistlepaw, silently monitoring the young tom's progress. Exhaling a breath she didn't even realize she was holding, the Deputy's tense form relaxed as she watched Thistlepaw bring down the rabbit with little issue. Nodding a brief praise to the young tom, she remained still for several heartbeats before speaking, "You did very well- quite impressive for a first try!" Pausing and gazing around at the bleak territory that unfolded around them, her ears pricked up as an idea struck her. "This might be pushing our luck for the day, but let's see if you can bring down a bird. More often than not, they're all we can bring down during weather like this." Brindlewhisker offered, gaze sweeping around the brittle and grey grasses that still barely clung to life.

Thistlepaw bit his lip and then turned to try and spot one of the feathered creatures. Once he did, the young tom began to stalk it. He advanced until he was at a good distance from the pecking bird. The apprentice waisted no more time and pounced. He caught it and breathed a sigh of relief. He brought over to the deputy an placed it down. He looked at her to see what she would say.

Gaze narrowing against the bitter chill carried atop the brisk breeze, Brindlewhisker's ears flatted against her skull in a futile attempt to keep them from freezing. Feeling crystalline tears brim at her gaze from the intensity of the cold, she resisted the urge to pull a face as she watched Thistlepaw continue his hunt. Holding as still as she possibly could in face of the relentless gusts of air, she let out another little trill of relief as she watched the young tom bring down the unlucky bird. "Excellent! Perhaps you have a bit more than luck on your side. Now, why don't we head back to camp before your prey freezes completely?" Brindlewhisker questioned, shaking herself vigorously in hopes of heating herself up. Although she disliked the idea of cutting a training session short, she knew it was nearly impossible to stay out in such frigid weather for long periods of time.
