A soft hunt{closed}

Spottedpelt walked into the apprentice den to wake her new apprentice. Even though she had kits Spottedpelt could make some time to train softpaw. She looked in the den and found the curled up apprentice. She walked up to softpaw and nudged. "wake up it's time to train." she said and left the apprentice den. She knew wakinging for the first time as an apprentice was a bit difficult with the whole waking up early part. She sat down at the entrance and waited.

Softpaw didn't want to wake up not at first til she heard training. The apprentice opened her blue eyes,stretched then made her way outside of camp.

Spottedpelt smiled as she saw her frist apprentice. "Today we will be learning how to hunt. So far what have you learned about hunting from clan members?" she asked softpaw.

Softpaw thought for a moment before she smiled"I learned the hunters crouch"she mewed after thinking for a moment.

Spottedpelt nodded. "good that is one of the important parts of hunting." she said smiling. "come on lets go." she said and started to leave camp.

Softpaw smiled and gave a nod before she followed after her mentor her tail flicking excitedly.

When Spottedpelt got to a good place she stopped and smiled at softpaw. "what can you smell?" she asked her.

Softpaw looked around for a moment as she followed before she sniffed the air quietly thinking"I smell squirrel,magpie....old scent of a...mouse I think"She mewed thinking.

Spottedpelt nodded. "very good. Now to hunt properly you need to be stealthy and use the bushes for cover. You keep your tail straight and paws silent then strike making no sound. Let me show you." she said and started to stalk the squirrel eating a nut. She held her tail out straight and walked silently until close enough to pounce. Spottedpelt pounced and with one bite killed the brown creature. She picked it up and brought it to softpaw.

Softpaw blinked watching as he mentor caught the squirrel easily which made her want to try and catch something but she held back for a moment until told to do so.

She buried the squirrel. "we do this so other predators don't steal then when we finish hunting we come and get it." she said. "ok now how about you try and hunt." she said smiling.

Softpaw nodded and decided to try for the magpie she had sniffed out. Following the scent she found it at the base of a burnt tree trying to get at something so while it was distracted she crept forward silent. At least that's what she thought the bird heard her and took to the air. She sprung up after it trying to catch it but it was just out of her reach.
