Determination and Hopelessness (Open)

A secret dream finally comes true for Curlyfeather when she is given an apprentice. She is determined to teach everything she can despite her lack of hearing. This comes across as strict, snappy, and rude to the apprentice. Even so, the apprentice decides to be nice to their rude mentor. Though Curly's irritable self will never be changed, they form the ideal mentor and apprentice bond. After successfully training the apprentice to become a warrior, Curlyfeather realizes she actually can become the warrior she wanted to be.

Pushed by the determination to still communicate, Curlyfeather decides to create a whole language of tail signals beyond the simple ones she has learned. A group of family, friends, or anyone who can be useful help her to get used to this, as well as all learning it themselves. After finding a way to communicate, deafness becomes quite a bit easier for Curlyfeather. Before long, she is able to use the tail signals like regular language.

As one may guess, fighting is a lot harder for a cat with scars that never quite healed all the way covering her body in addition to not being able to hear. And due to the fact that Curlyfeather wants to get revenge on ThunderClan, she is determined to learn how to fight better than any other cat. She finds a cat or two to practice fighting with, and trains almost every day. These vary in style, from a normal spar to a full-on ShadowClan version of capture the flag.

Even before the Thunderpath, Curlyfeather pitied herself for her missing ear and hated looking weak. Now that her other ear is missing as well, those feeling just double. So one day she is on a patrol with two other cats and ends up hitting her head. That causes the sound of claws on stone to ring in her ears, and she gets very disoriented. One of the other cats makes fun of her, and even though she can't hear them, it's obvious. The other one feels really bad and tries to help her. Those are the two kinds of cats that she hates most. She ends up trying to run away and fails to do so, and starts thinking that maybe she just is a horrible warrior.

At a gathering, Curlyfeather is thinking about how horrible it is not to hear what any of the leaders are saying. Thinking that it's just another example of how her life was ruined and she would never become a good warrior, she decides to go find Sharptooth and give her a piece of her mind. She ends up running into a different ThunderClanner, who doesn't understand the Curly is deaf. Curlyfeather thinks she is being made fun of, and runs away from them. Later, at the big battle, it would be cool if they could get in a fight there.
