AAUUGH (OPEN hunting patrol)

Newtpaw couldn't ignore the fresh-kill pile any longer. His first taste of battle had been with the friendly rogue that Blizzardstar seemed to be rather friendly with. Was that redundant? Good. He picked out whatever wasn't edible and took it to the dirt-place before glancing around for others to form a patrol. He had no interest in leading one, he was happy being in charge of solely himself, thank you very much. The clan's obsession of codes were a little too much and there was obviously a gray area no one liked to mention. Newtpaw and anyone else who wasn't blind would know that Blizzardstar would have never tried her attack if she didn't have some dead cat's blessing for it. But what did he know? He was just an apprentice. He stretched and waited near the entrance, watching with amusement as a bitter looking apprentice squinted against the snow as she padded out the den.

Wildpaw grumbled and kicked the snow with unsheathed claws. She spent yesterday helping grumpy elders with their ticks. They were super prickly thanks to the cold making their joints ache. She was beginning to head to the fresh-kill pile when she remembered the rules on apprentices. Ones she had to follow now. With a heavy sigh, she looked around for a patrol and saw Newtpaw snickering by the entrance. Her fur rose and she glared at him, bounding over and spraying some snow on him in the process. "What're you laughing at?"

"You're a bright she-cat. Well, pelt-wise anyway. I'm sure you can figure it out."

Newtpaw gave a smile with a mocking amount of cheer in it.

Emberheart saw the pair of apprentices next to the camp entrance, a small smile on her face as she heard them talking.
There weren't many things to be happy about, but she was holding on to the few there were as tightly as she could and pushing her concerns aside for the moment. One of those things she had come to appreciate was most definitely apprentices' bantering. Trying not to be noticed, she made her way over.

"Planning to go on a patrol?" the newly-appointed warrior asked them cheerfully. "You wouldn't happen to need a warrior to tag along?"

"I think we can handle i-" Wildpaw started, her agitated look and voice made it even more apparent that she was as firey as usual.

"That'd be great, Emberheart." He gave Wildpaw a pointed look. He was not going to be stuck somewhere with Wildpaw by himself. She'd probably charge into RiverClan camp and throw him in Ivystar's den expecting him to fix something or other... At the least, she'd try to get him to chase all the snakes out of Snakerocks. Judging by Wildpaw's lack of a retort, his sly little insult went unnoticed. Oh well. They'd better get on with it. He wanted to see if he could make ditches for all the snow when it melted. If he did it right, elders could have an easy way to get water without leaving the den.

Whitepaw heard some bantering close to the fresh-kill pile and made her way over. Her training had been going well, but she needed to get some more time in on patrols. The group of cats gave her a hopeful feeling, maybe they were heading out for one. The orange she-cat's ears forward as she heard the tail end of the conversation about a hunting patrol. "Mind if I tag along?" Her eyes moved around to all three cats to see who would accept or deny her presence.

Emberheart nodded to Whitepaw. "And that makes a patrol," she declared cheerfully. "Let's go, then."

Newtpaw nodded, pushing through the fern tunnel and out of camp. As he looked up, he could see the snow covered branches around him. A few of the had little lines in them. Sparrow feet? Probably. He didn't smell any birds nearby so it was long gone now...

Wildpaw grunted and followed Newtpaw, taking the lead even though she didn't know where they were headed.

Whitepaw thankfully dipped her head as the four cats set out on the patrol. The orange she-cat followed at the tail end of the group taking her time to attempt to catch the scent of any unsuspecting prey. She opened her mouth slightly, but couldn't make out anything clearly enough.

Emberheart caught sight of a mouse, and took a moment to check that her crouch was decent before starting to stalk the small rodent and caught it in her paws, delivering a fairly swift bite to the creature's throat.

Whitepaw caught a small moved from the corner of her eye.  The orange she-cat stilled herself and crouched in the growth of the forest floor.  There was a small bird sitting on a branch.  The bird took flight and was in line to fly right past Whitepaw she launched herself at the bird and dug her unsheathed claws into its body before bringing it to the ground and killing it.

Wildpaw saw the others catching things and quickly crept around a bunch of roots she spotted. She heard a squirrel rummaging in broken twigs. She began to stalk it, darting forward with claws outstretched.

Newtpaw lagged behind with Whitepaw until he heard a noise in a bush. He scented sparrow and began to creep forward.
