Another Battle in the War [Closed]

He couldn't stay away from the rocks. Of course, the massive white tom knew it was dangerous to trespass on another clan's territory, but after their despicable mannerism, he could not care less. Artemis needed to come back to pay his respects to Thistlepaw and ask that the ancestors bless them in their future endeavors. It was Oasis custom to return and he was certainly a cat to stick to his learned moral code. Artemis bent his head. The silent prayers ran through his head as he stood at the side of the clearing. While he planned to tread the parameter of the entire area, this was the place to start.

A soft splash caused his ear to twitch and head to snap up. There was a cat, most likely here to remark the borders. He could not see anyone else in sight. With Riverclan as hostile as they were, he would not be surprised if this warrior would attempt to tear into him without hesitation. There would most likely be another fight today. Artemis would have waited a moment longer, but he quickly recognized that cat that stood before him. They had been at the battle. A low growl rumbled in his throat as he charged forwards, using his shoulder to slam into the Riverclan cat's chest.

Artemis used Run and Tackle, doing 10 +3 damage on Nutfur and using 10 stamina.

Who was that cat who had crossed the border? Nutfur remembered him from the battle as fighting for ThunderClan, but he had the scent of rogue and she had never seen him at a gathering. He was a threat to her clan either way. But still, she felt guilty for her clan's actions at the war. It would probably be best to tell him politely to leave first. She entered the river with a small splash, swimming to the other side in just a few moments. She quickly stepped out of the river, having just enough time to shake the water out of her pelt. But before she could speak, the growl rang through the air. To shocked to move, she was knocked off of her feet and skidded a tail-length across the rocks. Now angered and having a reason to fight back, she hissed at her new opponent. Unsheathing her claws, she shot them out and raked them across his face, drawing blood.

Nutfur used Front Paw Strike on Artemis, dealing 11 damage and costing 10 stamina.

Claws slashed across his face, instantly stinging. Although, thankfully because of his long fur, it did not leave as deep of welts as it would have on another cat. He jumped back to create a short distance between them and sized up his opponent. She would most likely be just as ruthless and bloodthirsty as the rest of her clan. One that was willing to murder an apprentice and walk away was one that did not deserve the respect of other cats. If it weren't for his strict teachings and general level of compassion for every cat, he would have gone to tear her throat out instantly.

But, that would not happen today. Artemis simply hoped to knock this cat out and move on with his traditions. He dove to the side before springing into the air and landing on the she-cat's back. His claws tangled deep into the she-cat's fur. Between his weight and hold, he would hopefully have her pinned for quite some time.

Artemis used leap and hold on Nutfur, dealing 11 damage and using 10 stamina. Nutfur is stunned for 2 turns.

Nutfur watched as he jumped away, prepared to attack or defend at any given moment. About to lung forward again, he moved quicker, seeming to dart to the left. She took the false bait, and before she knew it he had leapt onto her back. She hissed as his claws dug into her and his body weight alone pinned her down. He had a right to do that. He probably thought she was like Otterleap or Ivystar, cats who didn't mind murdering and kidnapping. Or he probably thought she was like Jaystream, usually a nice and talented cat who turned way too violent when threatened. But she wasn't like those cats. She really didn't want to hurt him. But still, she didn't want to die. She did her best to buck him off, but wasn't able too.

Nutfur is stunned for one more turn.

He continued to hold her to the ground. Thankfully, he was able to keep a good grip and hold her down. The white tom did not let up at all. His brow furrowed in concentration. Since beginning his travels, Artemis had fought quite a bit, but normally just for his own life. It felt good to have a bigger purpose now.

"I'm not going to kill you," He meowed into her ear, "I am no Riverclan cat, I have morals."

"I don't want to hurt you either. My clanmates actions were inexcusable, but still, the warrior code says to fight cats who invade your territory," Nutfur hissed back. Maybe she could just pretend this was a simple border skirmish, and not some tiny battle in a huge war. Because when she thought about it that way, she almost wanted him to win. But she couldn't. In addition to him having crossed the border, a small bit of her honor was at stake. She did her best to buck him off again, and was just almost able to.

Nutfur is no longer stunned.

"Rationalizing savage behavior has never never made an honorable cat!" He shot back quickly, "Because of the actions of your clanmates and leader, so many innocent cats suffer." Artemis' words ended with a hiss, rather close to the she-cat's ear before he leaped away. His eyes met hers for a split second before he was lashing out again. The tom had hoped to see something different within the Riverclan, maybe a spark of decent nature, but it was evident here that was most likely few and far between. He understood the need to guard borders, attackers had been viciously driven away from the Oasis on several accasions in this life time, but this was different. Those cats were savages, simply greedy for territory; they longed to destroy the save haven that had saved so many of their species over the countless seasons. Thunderclan fought for the survival of their kits and elders.

It was barely a second that he had leaped away that he had come right back. Rearing up onto his hindlegs, the large white tom used all of the force he could to bring his paws down onto her head. Claws were still sheathed of course. Anytime he did use his claws, the Oasis cats did not harm more than necessary. Any opponent he had ever had walked away with little more than a few scratches. Artemis, given his strength and size, was easily able to do more damage. But, he always used restraint. As soon as he had slammed Nutfur's head to the ground, he created a small distance between them. Once this ended, he could finish his customs.

Nutfur winced at the truth behind the tom's words. Though the warrior code was something that was important to follow, her leader had twisted it to fit what she wanted it to mean. That ThunderClan apprentice had died, they had taken a medicine cat hostage, and there had been countless injuries, some of which they would never recover from. Sometimes the brown warrior did question if she was fighting for the right side. But she just couldn't bring herself to break the warrior code. What had always seemed like a blessing now seemed like a flaw. Her thoughts were interrupted by her opponent attacking her once again, huge paws slamming with great force down upon her head and shoulders. She fell the ground, head hitting against the rocks. She felt dizzy, but to so much so that she wasn't able to attack. She stood up with a threatening gleam in her eye.
No words could be exchange now, there was no way to justify her actions. It was for her clan's honor. And this was still more than just a battle field, it was RiverClan hunting grounds. She lunged for him, turning to her side and quickly dived underneath him. Her claws dug into his stomach for a few moments, before she shot out the other side, stance already defensive.

Artemis noted the silence. There was nothing to be said in response to the truth that had been presented. He had moons of life experience, he had seen cats fight savagely time and time again, and the situation was always the same. His blue gaze had been focused on her as she lay weakened on the ground. The tom was a bit survived with her drive as she got back to her paws and darted under him to claw at his stomach. Leaping away as soon her claws scored him, Artemis was ready to face her. Despite the renewed fire in his eyes. This battle had already been lost, in more ways than one.

Using his hind paws once more, he sprang forwards to knock her over. Within second, the she-cat was on the ground, weakened and near passing out, but no clawmarks scored her pelt. He would not allow himself to truly injure the she-cat, even if she did not deserve mercy. A grimace quickly overtook his features as he realized the next battle with Riverclan would most likely have to not be the same if he wanted to fight for the good of Thunderclan. Artemis made sure his claws were sheathed as he padded closer to stand over her.

"You have fought bravely, albeit ruthlessly for what you believe in. It would be wise to figure out what you are actually fighting for." Artemis left her to finish his route over the rocks, still stained with scarlet drops. A soft sigh escaped his maw. After a few moments, he disappeared back into the Thunderclan woods, leaving Nutfur, there on the rocks.

Artemis used jumping strike on Nutfur, dealing 12 damage and using 20 stamina. Nutfur was defeated.

The sudden leap didn't even surprise her. Nutfur did nothing to protect herself, not that she could have done anything effective if she had. Maybe ThunderClan deserved a small victory, after all the tragic losses her clan had caused. She felt herself fall hard on her side, not having the energy to get up again. She probably had a minor concussion from all the blows to her head, but other than that the only pain she felt was aches and sores, no stings from scratches. She could tell this tom did believe in peace, and believed RiverClan didn't. He was probably right for the majority of her clanmates. His words settled deep in her mind. She fought her best, but for for the warrior code's sake. She didn't believe in the cause she was fighting for. What did she want to fight for? Not for the ruthless cats she was sad to call her leader and clanmates. She did believe in honor, and code, and most importantly her friends. Finchstream most of all. As she forced herself to her feet after the tom had left, that was what she had decided on. She was fighting for Finchstream.
