FrostFeather trains her first apprentice

FrostFeather woke with a smile. Today was the day She got to train her first appendice. She walked to the apprentice den and looked for the young cats pelt. "wake up it's time to go." she said nudging the cat. She left the den and waited for her to wake up since she knew how hard it was to wake up on the first day.

Kestrelpaw's dark blue eyes snapped open at the sound of her mentors voice. She stood, stretching her cream coloured body while she ran a dark paw over her dark face. Her dark tail flicked excitedly at the prospect of doing something new. She leapt over the sleeping bodies of a couple apprentices, then ran for where her mentor was. She looked at her hopefully, paws kneading the ground in her excitement.

"What are we doing? Battling, hunting, oh, oh, can we see the rest of windclan? I wanna see every inch of the moore!" Kelstrelpaw's voice was loud with eagerness. Her eyes wide at the idea of being out into the blankets of snow.

She smiled when the apprentice appeared and when she was so excited. "i was planning on doing hunting you could see the territory while we hunt." she said smiling at kestrelpaw.

Kestrelpaw bounced in excitement. She could barely contain her thoughts as she waited, fidgeting, for her mentor to lead the way.
"I'm gonna catch the biggest rabbit ever!" She declared. Her eyes turned to scan the fields in front of them. "Where are we going to start? Here?" She asked, pausing her eager bouncing to scent the ground, she couldn't smell any rabbits though, just other cats.

FrostFeather smiled as when they finally got to a good hunting spot kestrelpaw got all excited. "well not specifically here we are going over there." she said pointing her tail where there was a lot of snow covered grass. She walked that way and looked down. "look down tell me what you see." she said. There were rabbit tracks all over and some droppings.

Kestrelpaw follwed Frostfeather's tail direction with a smooth bounce. She paused her rambucious behaviour to observe the spot closely. It smelled different, and the tracks weren't ones she'd seen before. She opened her jaws, getting a more concentrated scent on her glands before she stood up sharply.

"A rabbit print!?" She asked, her voice becoming softer. She had heard that they could hear very well, thanks to those overgrown ears. "Is it still here?" She added, her jaw still open and scenting while her eyes scanned the grass around them.

FrostFeather smiled at her. "yes if you look closely the tracks are fresh and go that way." she said pointing her tail towards a bush. When she pointed the bush shook and a white rabbit appeared. "ok I'm going to show you what you do all you have to do is watch them when I'm done try it out." she told the apprentice then started to slowly stalk the rabbit. When the rabbit twitched she stayed still and when it stoped she moved. When she was close enough to pounce she got into the hunting crouch and pounced. She landed directly on the rabbit and killed it with one bite. She picked it up and brought it to kestrelpaw.

The brown and tan apprentice watched Frostfeather closely, he eyes absorbed every movement. When her mentor pounced, she jumped up and began running to her excitedly.
"You caught it!" She declared happily. "You were so fast at the end!" Kestrelpaw leapt around her mentor, scanning the grasses around them to hopefully spot a rabbit.

She did, and for all her enthusiasm and excitement, she finally managed to stop bouncing. She grounded herself, laying close to the ground and inching forward slowly. Her tail twitched, the rabbit turned, and she plunged towards it at full speed. Within seconds she realised she had sprinted too early. The rabbit was able to outpace her to it's warren. Trapped. She smirked confidently and sat on the burrow entrance.
"Hah! It ran itself into a corner." She declared, not realising that the rabbit was long gone into the tunnels.

Ic: FrostFeather smiled at her enthusiasm and when she didn't catch the rabbit she was still happy. "that was a very good first try but next time make sure you are close enough and that the rabbit doesn't notice you." she said smiling. She sniffed the air and caught scent of bird. "smell the air and tell me what you can smell than try and hunt it." she said burying the rabbit then sitting down.

Kestrelpaw nodded firmly.
"Don't jump ahead. Got it." She confirmed, as she watched Frostfeather curiously. She tilted her head, then lifted her muzzle. Her jaws parted, and joy flashed through her eyes as she recognised the scent of thrush. Her head turned to locate which direction the scent was coming from before leaping off in that direction. She stopped before it could see her, flattening out in the snow covered grass. She crept towards it, keeping her body low. Her dark tail sticking out a bit behind her as her dark ears broke the cover of the snow. The thrush caught on to the strange darkness among the white and flew off, leaving Kestrelpaw behind and deflated "No! Not again!" She huffed, feeling a little weathered from her failed attempts. Twice now she had failed... would she have anything to bring back?

FrostFeather smiled at her apprentice. .how about you try and find a bird. Being fast and stealthy is good to catch them." she said smiling.

Kestrelpaw moved away from her failed attempt. She nodded to Frostfeather and walked around until she saw something beyond the grass. This time, she'd get it for sure. She hunched down to the ground, trying to hide her ears by flattening them, her tail much lower as she crept towards the blackbird. It was trying to find something beneath the snow.

She lunged, the black bird flying straight into an outstretched paw aimed to cut-off it's flight into the air. Finally, as she delivered the killing bite, she smiled. She picked it up by the wing and walked proudly to Frostfeather, with a new bounce in her step.
"Did you see? I caught it! She yowled in delight.
