Nightheart’s whole body tensed and her fur stood on end with the news… How could she?! The murder and running away like a coward almost made her yowl, demanding them to bring back Sageleaf even if that caused conflict with ThunderClan, make her pay for what she had done. But the straw that broke the camel’s back was the false StarClan sign. She could feel her blood boil with anger, she had been fooled into believing a fake StarClan sign not once, but twice by now. She couldn’t help but start growing worried, she had been careful to avoid having more cats stab her on her back like Lionfur had done so many moons ago, but now she had left her guard down with the mention of StarClan and made the exact same mistake that she had done when her former mate had told her something a bit alike.

With a loud snarl and her fur standing on end, she looked away from the leader and towards the ground at her side. She didn’t want her to see the betrayal and rage in her blue eyes, nor the shame she felt for falling again for the same trick. Her tail lashed from side to side angrily as she bowed to never ever take a sign from StarClan for granted again, even if the medicine cat themselves delivered such message.

She looked up just enough to not appear disrespectful towards the leader as she started to speak again, making public the new choice made by StarClan, making Mottleheart the new medicine cat of the clan. But, unlike the rest of the clan, no cheering came from the dark warrior. Instead she just lowered her gaze again and dug her claws on the dirt beneath her paws.

Yes, the leader herself had acknowledged the sign as true this time, but Nightheart found herself skeptical and wondering if this was really a sign or just a way to fill in the void and give the clan some comfort. For the first time she doubted the veracity of a message sent by StarClan and none would make her acknowledge it as truth until Mottleheart proved it with actions or StarClan themselves came to confirm it.
