Wolfkit bounced out into the crowd of gathering cats. Her sister Shadekit followed more calmly, struggling to press down the excitement. At last she couldn't control herself, and gave a little leap of joy. She caught up to Wolfkit and gave her a few licks to smooth her gray fur.
Wolfkit dodged out of the way of her littermate's tongue, "Hey, stop, you're not my mother."
Shadekit stopped and turned to groom herself instead, "Ok, if you want to show yourself in front of the whole clan like this."
The kits sat down and waited for Ashstar to continue.

Ashstar nodded approvingly at the young kits. "Wolfkit, Shadekit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior names, you will be known as Wolfpaw and Shadepaw. Wolfpaw, your mentor will be Nightheart. Shadepaw, your mentor will be Hollowbranch. I hope they will pass down all they know on to you."

Hollowbranch blinked. He had been hardly a warrior and already he had an apprentice. With a nod he stepped forward to Shadepaw.

"I will try my best." She promised.
Wolfpaw looked at her mentor, Nightheart, and stretched forward to do the same.

Nightheart looked as her new apprentice approached her, getting up and lowering her head to touch noses with him, her serious expression never leaving her features. She was known for being quite an strict mentor, and this probably wasn’t going to be the exception “You have the rest of this day to relax and celebrate, I expect you to be ready at sunrise tomorrow for training, not a heartbeat later, understood?”
