A Hunting Patrol (closed)

Sitting near the camp entrance, Ryecloud waited for some cat to join him. A chilly, early morning Leaffall breeze ruffled his fur as he sat in silence. Once again, the disfigured tom had been abruptly woken up from a pain shooting up his left hind leg and while part of him had wanted to go see the clan's medicine cat about it, he decided not to, seeing that he probably wouldn't have been able to explain it well enough. So here he was, sitting in pain while waiting for someone to join him.

Frostpaw walked out of the apprentice den and noticed Ryecloud sitting waiting for something. "hi Ryecloud are you going on a hunting patrol can I come?" the apprenticed asked. She loved hunting but nobody would take her.

OOC: can I plz join I need one I become a warrior in two days

Turning his head when a voice disturbed the once silent camp, Ryecloud looked to Frostpaw. "Wes, you can bome," the crooked jawed cat attempted to say as clearly as possible and gave a nod of his head. Without even the slightest of smiles towards the apprentice, Ryecloud turned his head back so that he looked out upon the camp and didn't move a muscle and waited for some other cat to possibly join them. He didn't want to wait too long though and decided that the two of them would get started if no one came soon enough.

OOC: sure. I'm gonna wait a little longer for someone to join, but if no one joins in the next hour or so, we'll just have this be the two of us :)

The early morning breeze was nice in comparison to the constant, near-suffocating heat that had fallen over the moor during the duration of Green-Leaf. Giving her pelt a brisk shake, Brindlewhisker rose to her paws as she spotted Ryecloud waiting to form a patrol. It had been a quite sometime since she had gone out on a simple patrol- the last actual patrol she had gone on had been well before her latest litter had been born. 'An embarrassingly long time, then', She reflected with a slight grimace as she drew to a halt beside Ryecloud and Frostpaw before letting out a friendly chirp of greeting towards the pair. "Mind if I join?" Brindlewhisker questioned, her pale blue gaze settling on Ryecloud as she spoke.

Hearing someone else approaching, the grey and white tom looked over at Brindlewhisker, who now stood next to him. The she-cat had taken his father's position as WindClan deputy and while his father tried to hide it to the best of his ability, the crippled tom knew that Smokepelt would never truly get over what happened. As for him, he didn't really care who was the deputy and had nothing personally against Brindlewhisker, seeing that she was just doing what Ashstar told her to do. But alas, he wasn't one to get involved in clan politics and was somewhat okay in being the forever silent tom who kept his thoughts to himself and never voiced anything, seeing that he couldn't even talk normally to begin with. Besides, what did his opinion matter? He was just a cripple; a lump on the log of clan-hood.

Fine with her joining the patrol, Ryelcoud gave a silent nod to the she-cat and stood up. Standing lopsided because of his limp leg, he gave his pelt a shake and began limping out of camp. While he didn't mind the deputie's company, he found himself a bit nervous of her joining them since she'd probably see how horrible of a warrior he really was. 'I'll just have to do my best,' he thought to himself as the trio began their way onto the open moorland territory.

Frostpaw fallowed Ryecloud and brindlewhisker out of camp. She couldn't wait this was her first hunting with the deputy. "so where are we going?" the adventurous apprentice asked.

Steadily following after Ryecloud and Frostpaw, Brindlewhisker allowed herself a moment's reprieve to enjoy the coolness of the early morning. It felt nice not being cooped up in camp with kits scrambling over her all day, although she did miss spending time with her youngest kits. Briskly shaking out her fur as she continued to pad after Ryecloud and Frostpaw a few tail lengths behind. "Good question Frostpaw," Brindlewhisker answered softly, casting a glance down at the silver tabby apprentice as she spoke, "Although I suppose it's up to Ryecloud to decide." She had little problem with her younger kin dictating the patrols duties for the day since it was his patrol.

Leading the patrol through the territory, Ryecloud didn't move his head to face the she-cats, but simply kept his ears perked so that he was able to hear their little conversation. "Ve hunt by de barm," the crooked jawed cat spoke, his pronunciation slurred and words mashed together as he limped along, trying to keep up the pace.

Frostpaw heard Ryecloud and noticed his jaw was off. Then she heard barn and was excited. "awesome I've never been tot he barn before what's it like." she asked the adults. She wasn't aloud anywhere near two legs and their homes so she couldn't wait to get there. Even though she's grew up with no mom she still knew a lot about the territory from her mentor who was also the new medicine cat. She couldn't wait after her assessment she would be a warrior.

"The barn is a massive Twoleg structure," Brindlewhisker finally answered after a moment of careful thought, "It's usually empty and Twolegs rarely use it themselves- but sometimes they use it to store bunches of grasses. It's rarely anything exciting." It was hard to believe that she herself had been born in a barn all those moons ago; those memories seemed to be so fuzzy that they seemed more or less like a dream. Opening her mouth to speak once more, the brindled she-cat's train of thought was interrupted by the scent of a nearby hare. Quietly breaking away from the patrol, she found herself hurrying after the small creature.

Breaking out into a neat and powerful sprint after the now panicking hare, Brindlewhisker quickly gave chase. Thrusting her hindlegs out behind her in a violent burst, the Deputy quickly brought down the hare with swift paws before neatly killing it. Carefully stashing the freshly-killed creature beneath a small clump of twisted heather, she quickly returned to the patrol.

Frostpaw listened and couldn't stop feel excited. Then her deputy ran off after a hare so she smelled and went after a mouse. She caught up to it and killed it. She walked back to Ryecloud with the mouse in her mouth.

Listening to the two she-cats talk among themselves once more, Ryecloud stayed quiet. He soon caught the scent of a rabbit, and watched as Brindlewhisker and soon Frostpaw trotted off to go hunting. After a few moments, the two of them returned, one with a rabbit and the other with a mouse in their mouths.

Saying nothing, the tom continued forward towards the barn and not long after the patrol began again, they were able to see it just a little ways away. 'Almost there,' he thought to himself. Mice usually liked to hang around the barn, seeing that it was a decent shelter, and luckily for him, the barn mice weren't as quick to run as regular mice. "We here," he spoke as they approached the big Twoleg structure.

Giving the rundown twoleg shelter a quick once over, Brindlewhisker hesitantly tasted the air for any sort of unwelcoming scents; it was always difficult to tell what you could encounter at the barn. Feeling relieved that most of the scents she caught wind of were mainly stale and nothing overly concerning. "I suppose we can all just split up," She finally mewed, gaze switching between Frostpaw and Ryecloud as she spoke, "No sense in scaring off all the prey by sticking together- but call if you find trouble." Padding a short distance away from her two Clanmates, the she-cat quietly began to prowl about for the next unfortunate piece of prey, allowing Ryecloud and Frostpaw space to do the same.
