Icekit's Apprentice Ceremony

Ashstar leapt onto the Tallrock. "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather underneath the Tallrock for a Clan meeting!" she yowled commandingly.

Icekit approached the Tallrock, his ears held back against his head. His mother had spent nearly a moon brushing his downy coat, making sure her son was the perfect example of a proper cat. Despite the inner excitement he had for becoming an apprentice, something that would let him explore the forest and experience the world, the thought of every clanmate's eyes on his own dark pelt sent chills down his spine.

He never wanted to be the center of attention. Not even at his own ceremony.

Ashstar gave the young kit a smile- he looked nervous. Hopefully, he would grow into a good apprentice and a better warrior. "Icekit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Icepaw. Your mentor will be Brindlewhisker. I hope she will pass down all she knows on to you."

Iceki-- Icepaw's eyes blue-green eyes shot up to the leader. B-Brindlewhisker?! The deputy was his mentor?!

Panic shot through his body. His heart fluttered. Without a second thought, the tom jumped onto his paws, tail lashing back and forth as he searched for the she-cat that would train him for moons to come. As he spotted her, a lump formed in his throat. The grey tom swallowed hard, his muzzle bunching up as he contemplated just what to say.

"I-I'll try not to be too disappointing," he mumbled after approaching the deputy. His head was low and his ears turned back once again. Of all the cats he could get as his mentor... A heat flashed under his pelt. She was so respectable and wise. He was... well he was just Iceki-- Icepaw. Plain, little Icepaw.

Brindlewhisker had been watching the newly-named Icepaw's ceremony from the edges of the clearing, gaze focused on the meek young tom. At Ashstar's ceremonial words, the she-cat quickly rose to her paws so that she could meet the young tom. Icepaw's words and jumpy behavior sparked a feeling of concern within her belly, but her expression did little to convey her inner turmoil. "Do not worry about such things." Brindlewhisker gently refuted, leaning forwards to touch noses with the young blue-grey tom.
