Quailfeather was watching as Hollowpaw lost piece after piece of prey. Some of his failures were from sloppy tactics, but mostly it was just bad luck. The she-cat was about to go up and give the apprentice some pointers, but as she turned to pick up the prey she'd caught to show him she heard a loud screech. Whipping around almost immediately, her blue eyes spotted a giant eagle snatching a rabbit from Hollowpaw- and he fought back. What in StarClan's name- attacking an eagle?! Mouse-brain! The warrior raced up to help him. He was definitely over his head. Unsheathing her claws as she ran, Quailfeather dashed over to the large bird and slashed at it with her front paws, a picture of majesty as she reared up on her hind legs. She'd drive off the eagle- then talk to her apprentice.

Quailfeather struggled to keep attacking the eagle- the large bird looked so desperate as it was being pinned to the ground. Eagles were meant to fly majestically in the sky, not be taken down by warriors. It had tried to steal Hollowpaw's prey- but, to be fair, the birds had to eat too. Hopefully, they could just drive it off of WindClan territory and it could continue to live. For now, she needed to keep it from attacking the young tom, even though he had started the fight. Like a mouse-brain. She let out an annoyed growl as her apprentice spoke. "There's no need to kill it, Hollowpaw," she told him as she dealt the poor thing another blow. "Warriors don't kill unless it's necessary. All we have to do is drive it off."

Quailfeather used Front Paw Strike on Eagle, dealing 14 damage and costing 10 stamina.

"But Quailfeather!" he gasped, struggling to keep the eagle down. "It's almost leafbare and it is food! It is necessary!" With a yowl, he slashed harder at the eagle's belly. With a quick paw, Hollowpaw slashed at the eagle.

A growl of frustration escaped Quailfeather's throat as her apprentice ignored her orders, continuing to attack the large bird. He had to learn to listen! The warrior let go of the eagle, and turned to smack Hollowpaw across the face- not gently, but without claws. "Hollowpaw, stop!" Without the added weight of the senior warrior she-cat, the eagle would be able to fly off, but would likely not return to their territory again- which was all they had needed to do in the first place. Someone had to discipline the tom before he went too far. The eagle did not need to die, and he had to obey orders from people who knew better.

Taking heaving breaths, trying to fight off the exertion that had come from saving the tom from the giant bird, Quailfeather's hot ice-blue eyes stared into her apprentice's mismatched ones. He needed to understand. "Please, Hollowpaw, listen to me. Your place as an apprentice is to listen to your mentor and obey her words. I understand that you think you are right, but you need to learn to listen to those who are smarter than you, or you'll never get far as a warrior. If this were a warrior assessment, you would have already failed. Not only did you fail to catch the amount of prey I assigned you, you deliberately disobeyed my orders and got yourself into a fight that was too much for you. If I hadn't been here to help you, that eagle may have overpowered you, and then what would have happened? You are a good fighter and hunter, and you will get better, but there is still much you have to learn. For now, you need to continue learning and humble yourself enough to accept that you do not know everything. Do you understand?" The gray speckled warrior hoped she wasn't coming off as too harsh, but she needed to be firm. Her eyes showed no hope of her giving way, but also communicated her respect for him as an apprentice and her wish for him to be better.
