Awkward Patrol

Sunpaw padded sullenly behind Birdpaw, her ears low. Of all the cats to lead the patrol, it had to be Specklefang.
Great.
"Birdpaw, d'you smell anything?" She mewed softly, trying to be her usual happy-go-lucky self. "I think I heard a mouse digging over there."

The golden apprentice tilted her head, scanning the forest floor for prey.

Birdpaw chuckled at Sunpaw's gloomy behavior. She assumed it was because a certain grumpy warrior was leading the patrol. Personally, she looked up to Specklefang. She was sometimes misunderstood. Birdpaw saw her as experienced and full of vicious spirit. She turned and nodded to the older apprentice. "Yeah. I do smell and hear a mouse nearby." she answered.

Specklefang wasn't very eager to be there either, especially after she had gotten together with Sunpaw's brother, Leafstorm. "Well, what are you two waiting for? For the mouse to run into you're mouths? Go hunt it." Snapped the warrior, glowering down at the two apprentices. "Especially you, Sunpaw. Birdpaw is your younger yet they've already had their assessment." Sneering Specklefang raised her muzzle to scent for other things, trying to hold back her laughter from her mockery of Sunpaw.

Sunpaw huffed angrily. She was older than Specklefang- if anyone should still be an apprentice, it should be the rash cat in front of her.

The golden apprentice lifted her face to the sky, spying a lark perched low in a maple tree. She'd show Specklefang how to hunt.
The she-cat grinned and slowly lowered herself to the ground until she was directly beneath it.

She wiggled her haunches and leapt up, snatching the bird out of the air and landing neatly on the ground.
She took pride in her her legs, which were nearly as powerful as a Skyclan cat's. After moons of climbing rocks and leaping to see over a certain ledge she became quite the jumper, although it was nothing on Crowstar.

Birdpaw had gone her separate way. As she quietly walked around she spotted a small brown creature looking around. It was a mouse. Birdpaw wasn't sure if it was the same one from before but a mouse was a mouse so she wasn't complaining.

She began to creep towards it. The she-cat stopped to see if she was spotted. Once Birdpaw knew the coast was clear, the apprentice pounced.

Birdpaw let out a startled yowl as she heard the call of an owl really close to her. She turned quickly and ducked down to find a brown owl flying off. It was apparently after the same mouse. She hissed at it as the apprentice wasn't going to go off easily. As it came swooping down, Birdpaw batted it out of the sky with her unsheathed claws.

boopy poo c'mon grey beat up the owl already

Specklefang launched after the owl, strong back legs coiling as she leaped towards the owl, ripping it from the air with claws unsheathed. Shoving it into the ground with bared teeth she tore into its feathers, her tail lashing angrily as she spilled its blood but she didn't kill it yet. No- she'd allow the apprentices to do it. Stepping off the quivering, screeching bird she looked to Birdpaw- completely disregarding Sunpaw. "C'mon Birdpaw, this is your kill." She meowed.

Specklefang used Jumping Strike, costing 10 damage and 20 stamina.

Birdpaw nodded quickly and stood over the screeching bird, pinning it. She bit its neck at didn't release until she felt its movements become slower. After a good few seconds, she released the owl as it had stopped moving. The apprentice was successful in dealing the final blow. She licked the blood off her muzzel and shook her head to get the rest off. She looked over at Specklefang and nodded a thank you. "What do we do with it?" she asked the warrior.

Sunpaw lifted her lip slightly as Specklefang gave Birdpaw orders.
She padded up to the two, her golden fur ruffling slightly. "I'd bring it back to camp with us." She mewed. "We need all the food we can get."

She scoffed slightly and turned, flicking her tail across Specklefang's muzzle and turning back to her with   a smirk. "Alright Specklepaw. Lemme show you how to really hunt."

She let her gaze roam upward, catching another small sparrow out of the corner of her eye. She grinned and wiggled her haunches, easily leaping into the air and snatching it mid-flight. She needed to utilize her powerful legs while she could.

She grinned and dropped the sparrow with her other catch, sitting down beside it and shooting the two younger cats a grin.

Birdpaw grinned as she saw Sunpaw's amazing hunting example. "That was amazing Sunpaw! I wish I could hunt that good!" the younger she-cat purred. "You should be a warrior right now!" the calico praised. Birdpaw turned to Specklefang to see what she'd say.

"No. Sunpaw still has a lot to learn, an elder in age or not. She's immature and would learn from being an apprentice for a good couple moons longer, her insatiable need to prove herself as better than everyone is simply not warrior quality. Not to mention her spoiled and snotty attitude which is quite unbecoming. Sunpaw is just too irresponsible to be a warrior, she'd probably tell kittens to jump into the gorge then jump in herself for fun and the attention." Spat Specklefang, completely brushing off Sunpaw's 'insult'. "Let's keep going, I want to finish this patrol soon so I can get back to more important things."
