An Acorn in an Oak Tree

Oakfall woke from the warrior den, excited at the prospect of being a warrior. Aside from that, he had adopted a light brown she kit called Acornkit. Going to the nursery, he went in and nudged the small fluffy cat with his nose. "Acornkit," he meowed softly, "you want to explore camp?"

Acornkit was laying in the nursery day dreaming about becoming a warrior when she felt a soft nudge. Looking up she saw Oakfall her new adoptive father. Acornkit jumped up at the mention of exploring the camp, she wanted to become as familiar as possible with her home as she could. "I'd love to!" She mewed excitedly.

Talonstrike looked for Oakfall in the warrior's den, and exited displeased when he realized his friend wasn't present. Where in StarClan's name is he? he thought, his eyes narrowing as he searched the open camp for it. The wind blew through his gray tabby hair as he searched with great care. As he exited the medicine cat's den, he heard Oakfall's voice coming from the nursery. I must've imagined it, he thought, why would Oakfall be with a bunch of...kits?!

He bounded into the nursery, completely dumbfounded as Oakfall was talking with a small she-cat. "Uh, Oakfall, buddy?" he asked, slightly concerned,"What are you doing in the nurser-" it hit the young warrior. Oakfall is a father?! Who's the mom then? "Oh. Who's the lucky she-cat?" While he was happy for his friend, he was also confused.

Oakfall chuckled at his friends confused look. "Just Acornkit and me," he replied, nudging the small kit forward with his nose again, a smile on his muzzle. "No other she-cat. She needed a parent, as her mother died, and as I had no family growing up..." He stopped to nudge Talonstrike's side saying playfully, "Besides you mousebrain..." He trailed off again as he remembered the many times he and his friend had been out of camp together. Training, fighting each other, fighting the Shadowclan cat...he was the closest friend he had. He shook his head, finishing his sentence, meowing, "I decided that she needed a family like I needed you." He shook his head. So much had happened in such little time, his fight with the Shadowclan cat, his ceremony, and now adopting a daughter of his own. He smiled sheepishly. "Sorry I didn't tell you sooner, the last few days have been a blur..." He looked back again at Acornkit, then to Talonstrike. "So, Acornkit, this is Talonstrike, my..." He thought for a moment. Friend? Rival friend? Adopted brother? He smiled, then spoke without and waver in his voice, "My brother, and best friend in the whole forest. Meet your uncle. Talonstrike, meet your niece."

OOC: WOW ITS GREAT TO HAVE A COMPUTER AGAIN

Acornkit looked up at the grey tabby, "Hi Talonstrike" She mewed quietly. Since her mother died during her birth, and she was the only kit to survive, she loved the idea of having her own brother or sister one day. Acornkit started day dreaming again, this time she envisioned other cats that looked similar to her. These cats were playing with each other in the middle of the camp and seemed so very happy. As much as she wished she had her own family, she knew that she was very lucky to be a clan cat, her clan was her family. Shaking these thoughts out of her mind she stood up as tall as her small frame would allow and she looked at the two warriors her eyes still filled with excitement. "Can we explore the camp now?" she purred in her usual friendly tone.

'Like I needed you'. Awww, thought Talonstrike. The tom hadn't spoken to a lot of kits in his life. Somehow, the idea of incredibly impressionable young minds that saw him as a role model was really nerve-wracking to him. Talonstrike was somewhat of a word vomit-er, and he knew it. What if he said the wrong thing, and the kit subsequently turns evil because of it or something? He put on a fake smile as he nodded at the small kit's words.

Ooc: Hmm, never saw it that way! I like them as best friends/rivals/brothers, but that's interesting! And off topic, so cute with Dove and Talon, was seeing the vigil, can't wait till that finishes! I vote talon over Slatethroat, altho I think Dove is otherwise... :-( And wait, pause. DID TALON JUST THINK AWWW? AND DID HE HOLD HIS TOUNGE FOR ONCE? ITS NICE BUT STREAM WHAT HAPPENED TO TALON?!

Ic: Oakfall chuckled again at the look on his friends face. Shaking his head, he led Acornkit outside. "So," he meowed, "this is camp! What'd you think?"

Acornkit practically ran outside of the nursery in excitement. The camp was larger than she thought, but she was still just a small kit. Looking around she noticed multiple other dens, she couldn't wait until she was going to move into the apprentice den. Looking up at Oakfall she mewed curiously, "so, which den is the apprentices den?"

OOC: Since this takes place presumably after Talon gets absolutely rejected and humiliated by Dove, he's going through somewhat of a phase. He's growing up. While he's still sassy and hot-headed, he's become more kind and understanding. Also, keep in mind of WindClan's geography. Their camp only has a few dens, and is mostly open plain and sky.

"The apprentices don't really have a den," mewed Talonstrike," it's kinda barred off over there by a clump of tall grass. Same with the warrior's den. The only dens are the elder's den, the nursery, and the medicine cat's den. Want me to be honest with you? It kinda sucks. It doesn't rain all that much, but when it does, you're gonna have to put up with a nice bath."

Ooc: Aww, poor guy.

Oakfall rolled his eyes at his friends words. He would make her hate the den before she even moved in! But he laughed. "Well, he does have a point about that," he meowed mildly, "but being an apprentice or warrior, serving the Clan, it's worth it." Looking back over at her, he asked, "Are you excited for your ceremony?"

Acornkit's lips curled back in disgust at the thought of getting soaked during a rainstorm. She thought Oakfall was right the occasional rainstorm wouldn't be horrible as long as she was serving her clan. "I can't wait for my ceremony!" she mewed excitedly. "I wonder who will be my mentor." She was excited to be an apprentice in a short amount of time, she just hoped that her mentor would be great.

Talonstrike thought about that. Who will her mentor be?! he thought, somewhat alarmed. What if it's me?! Shivers ran down the young warrior's spine. What are the odds, he thought, reassuring himself. It should be a few moons before I have to be a mentor. The tom laughed to himself. "In due time, you'll find out. Don't worry too much. Whoever your mentor is, they should have no trouble turning you into a great warrior." Talonstrike offered his best smile. It's true, he thought, I had Slatethroat as my mentor, and I'll be damned if I ever call that fool a good teacher.

Oakfall grimaced a little as he thought of mentors. His mentor had never really been there for him, and he knew Talonstrike never had happy feelings towards his mentor either. Dovepaw did though... He shook his head. He could only hope that he and his friend would be better mentors to the clans future cats. He grinned again at his friends attitude. He seemed...older. More mature. Not randomly butting in and saying goofy stuff. He seemed to be trying to be...nicer. He'd have to ask him what was going on later.  He came back down to earth and meowed to the kit, "I'm sure you'll do great! There are many strong, loyal, and kind warriors in Windclan, lots of new ones too!" He thought of how he had just became a warrior, and wondered when he would become a mentor. He knew it was too much to hope he could be Acornkit's mentor,  but he was incredibly excited to see who would mentor the little kit.

Acornkit started day dreaming of being an apprentice now, she couldn't wait for her first patrol. "I cant wait!" she mewed, "I want to go hunting right away." She dropped down into a very sloppy crouch, she sure would need a lot of training on that. Acornkit looked around the camp again, gazing from den to den. Then it hit her, once shes an apprentice she might be able to go to Gatherings, how exciting that would be to meet cats from other clans for the first time.

Talonstrike laughed when he saw Acornkit assume her hunter's crouch. It reminded the warrior of himself. Well... not really. Talonstrike didn't play pretend with his friends as much when he was a kit. "That's a really nice crouch," he mewed, beaming at the small she-cat," You wanna make sure you're a little more balanced, though. Put most of your weight on your front paws, like this." The tom assumed a hunting crouch. His wasn't the absolute best, it was still pretty good.
