What about that Shadowy Place? [Semi-Closed]

Waiting by the river, Ivyfall hid amongst the reeds for her apprentice. She'd told the little one to meet her by the funny shaped rock that kind of resembled a toad. It would be up to Sunpaw to find her, or perhaps he would give up and assume that she was late. That wasn't really in her nature, any clanmate would know that Ivyfall was often the first to wake, and the last to sleep. It was a good test to see her apprentice's observational skills and to see if he generally knew his clanmates.

Sunpaw was a little angry. His mentor told him to meet her at some funny shaped rock and then just left him. He was apprentice after all and what if some other clans cats will attack him? Usually mentors were with apprentices whole the time. But then he suddenly realized. What if this was some kind of a test? Was Ivyfall planning something for him? Obviously he wasn't sure and he left the RiverClan camp nervously flickering his tail and trying to scent deputy's smell. She left him some time ago so the trail was probably quite clear and long time from becoming faint. With his head near the ground he went left and right at the main path which leaded away from the camp. First he had to found Ivyfaĺ's trail and then other things would follow.
Ahh! Excitement bursted out of him when he detected RiverClan scent. But it dissapeared as quick as it came; it was scent from RiverClan warrior. Sunpaw didn't know who it was, but he was sure that this was not Ivyfall. Desperated he headed away searching on.
He didn't know where this toad shaped rock was exactly and he wanted to use his smelling to find it.
Luck was on his side. Ivyfall! There was her trail and it was quite clear; she was here not long ago. Happily he went on following the trail and from time to time looking for toad rock.

To give Sunpaw a hint, Ivyfall twitched her tail in the reed, and deliberately brushed her scent glands against the nearest leaf to spread her scent.

Icc: Sunpaw suddenly shoke his body. Really big scent was coming from one of the trees. It was similar; definitly RiverClan cat and probably even his mentor. With excitement in his whiskers, Sunpaw padded on towars tree and sniffed one leaf. It was surely Ivyfall! He began padding all around this place and finally saw this bloody rock. It was really strange shaped. With even more excitement he ran towards place where scent was bigger and saw Ivyfall. "There you are!" He happily yowled.

The deputy purred warmly with affection as she slinked out of the reed to unexpectedly pounce onto the apprentice. She used her size as momentum to place a heavy paw on the apprentice's chest, before she swiped his pelt clean with her tongue in a motherly manner. "Careful, I could have been any warrior. It's never wise to broadcast your position so loudly. It was only a few moons ago that a deadly rogue tried to invade our camp."

She got off him, giving him a chance to get up. "We'll be patrolling Sunningrocks and hunting there today. It won't do for ThunderClan to get too cocky. Come."

Happy about his succes apprentice followed his mentor still padding full of excitement. First duty and he did it right. Sunpaw was now concentrated on environment around him and trying to remember all good places for hunting and hiding places when they passed them.
Suddenly aware of deputie's last words he asked: "What if ThunderClan patrol finds us? We are extremely vulnerable, only we two." He was a little scared; elders were always talking so scary stories about enemy clan's warriors and he partly believed it.

"They would not dare attack a deputy of another clan. And if they have the foolishness to do so, I will protect you and ensure you get away. Don't worry. That was a good observation though, there is never anything wrong with being cautious. Anyone who tells you otherwise is a fool." Ivyfall meowed as she walked alongside her apprentice, only when they reached the river did she stop. "Now, where are the stepping stones located, can you spot them?"

He nodded happily, when Ivyfall responsed so gently. But he began hastily thniking as soo as he got another question. Stepping stones? He knew well that RiverClan cats sometimes swim in the river and on the other side. But there was as well other way to cross the river. Sunpaw began looking for bigger stones coming out of the water.
He steped some fox-lenghts along the shore and saw some stones. But they were mostly ended before coming on the other side. In the river he suddenly spotted bigger stone and perfect for steping. But where were the others. Nervously he twiched his whiskers and suddenly scanned some bigger stones, which weren't big enough for coming out of the water, but maybe fit for walking and after all they were in the right line. "Here they are!" He nervously flickered his tail while calling to Ivyfall.

"Good, now try cross them. If you slip, I'll catch you, don't worry. Until you're older, I want you to use these stones to cross, the river can get dangerously high in Greenleaf from the rains." She instructed, following closely behind her apprentice, her ears were pricked up to hear for danger from the treelines, while her eyes were on her apprentice. It should be safe today, but no one could ever guarantee safety.

Sunpaw gulped, while he was searching those stones he didn't imagine that he would need to cross them.
Extremely nervous Sunpaw padded forward and really slowly steped on the first rock. Unluckily this stone was under the water and he had wet paws immediately. He continued getting another paw on the next stone. And only two paws left on the ground. After minute he managed to get his whole body on this stones and he began walking quicker.
Whooaa. He suddenly put all his weight on his right paw and almost fell dowb in the water. "Is is so slippy!" He mewed and continued with much careful steps. Relief bursted through him when he steped on the middle rock, which was out of the water. Two more to go. With taking deep breathe he jumped on the ground.

Ivyfall trailed behind her apprentice, nearly jumping over to grab him by the scruff when he slipped but Sunpaw managed to right himself. Relaxing a fraction, she stepped through the cold waters to neatly land near him on the other side. Sniffing the air, she double checked to make sure there was no danger before she flicked with her tail for him to follow.

In the distance was a crow pecking at a worm, that was too big. She didn't want to risk Sunpaw being pecked, dismissing it she looked around again. Ah, there was a scent of a vole. That would do. She whispered to her apprentice. "What can you smell, Sunpaw?"

Sunpaw sniffed cautiously and began looking around altough his mission was to smell. First he scented sharp smell and soon also saw the creature. It was enormous bird;crow. But obviously Ivyfall didn't want him to find a crow. Something else. Apprentice began sniffing again and instead of crow's scent he scented something else. It was small creature with fur and was hiding somewhere. He tried to remember the name. Shrew? Bird? Mole? Vole? Vole! "Vole!"exclaimed Sunpaw loudly and then saw vole running away. He was really stupid. "I'm sorry," ge gasped embarassed.

Ivyfall's fur rose up in surprise when her apprentice shouted out the answer, but she wasn't mad, he was still young and learning. Instead she sighed, before relaxing her fur. "It's okay, you were right at least." There wasn't much else to say, she couldn't smell anything else nearby, or even hear the gentle scufflings of prey, no they were all scared off. "How about we patrol for a bit and see if anything comes back. Come."

The deputy lead the way to the edges of a tall oak forest that loomed at the edges of Sunningrocks. Thick brambles and weeds made it difficult to see far into the forest, and the shadows made it seem a little frightening. But having once hunted in those woods, she felt a queer pang of yearning. Of course she was quick to dismiss it, instead asking her apprentice. "What do you smell now? When was the last ThunderClan patrol passing through here?"

Sunpaw sniffed special air in the forest. It was quite different than most of the RiverClan's territory. Here were many ThunderClan scents because of border and Sunpaw was sure that he would remember this smell in the future. It was strange and sharp; not mixed with fish and water as RiverClan.
But how was he supossed to know when ThunderClan patrol passed? He steped a little closer not entirely knowing where the border was and sniffed. It was not so fresh scent, but still far from being faint. Apprentice guessed: "At dawn, I guess. It is not so clear so maybe they are coming soon."
