PostSubject: A Tribute to Chester   Thu Jul 20, 2017 8:46 pm

"When my time comes,
Forget the wrong that I've done,
Help me leave behind some
reason to be missed.
Don't resent me,
and when you're feeling empty,
leave me in your memory,
Leave out all the rest,"
~Chester Bennington, Leave out all the Rest

As some of you may have found out, earlier today, Linkin Park singer Chester passed away from suicide. I didn't read the news until about a few hours ago, and at first glance I shrugged it off and continued doing my laundry. But, moments later, everything hit me, and I was so shocked that I couldn't move.

Growing up, I wasn't a huge Linkin Park fan as some may have been, as I've only listened to about seven or eight songs out of their entire discography. I never listened to them past the 6th grade, and most of their songs and lyrics faded from my memory shortly after. Before that, however, they meant a lot to me.

Growing up, my dad listened to about everything under the sun. He would buy random albums and play them in the car. They'd range to anything from Country music to 80's new wave to 90's gangster rap, and I'd listen to it with him.  However, the first song I'd ever asked him to replay was "Breaking the Habit" by Linkin Park. I was too young to really understand the lyrics, but Chester's passionate and ardent voice really appealed to me.  My dad began to play other songs by them, and at age 8 I had an entire ipod dedicated to these few songs. They were so good to me that when Rock Band 2 came out, I begged my parents to go out and buy the entire game, instruments and all, just so I could play a featured Linkin Park song in it. My love for all things music stemmed from them, as it went from pop rock to all rock and eventually to all music. It's progressed to today where I proudly play in DC once a month with paid professionals even though I'm still in high school.

So, I put away my laundry and digged around my basement to find my old iPod nano. I was able to find a charger and have since been listening to the songs, tears flowing freely down my face. Chester's demons can be seen so obviously in his music, and it pains me that he never saw a reason to keep going. He was a ridiculously talented and successful artist that has touched tens of millions throughout his life, and I hope that someday I'll be able to have even a fraction of the impact that he had.

If you or anyone you know are thinking of suicide please seek help. You're loved. You don't have to fight it alone.

"Chester's demons can be seen so obviously in his music" agreed my dude. My best friend also grew up with Linkin park and was inspired to learning music because of them. She plays piano, guitar, bass and drums and even singing, but mostly the drums. When I told her the news today I could see the life fade from her face, the tears welling up in her eyes. She too listened to them again today.

The death is quite a tragic one, but he left fans with smiles on their faces, because that's what he meant to them- the ones who loved him. I never really listened to the band, but his singing voice always appealed to me. You'd hear that strong passionate voice, and you'd be able to say that's Chester.

Rest in peace Chester. Your tribute speech is brilliant, DaySteam
