Here we go...

Flowerpaw sighed as she made her way out of the apprentice den. Here we go again. Another day spent waiting by the entrance for some mentor to take pity on her and teach her something, and another disappointment to her friends. Oh wait, she didn't have friends.

She took a deep breath of the fresh morning air- life was good.

The apprentice passed by the fresh kill pile and made her way to the camp entrance. She sat down in the same spot she always did- a small circle of flattened grass was proof of that -and wrapped her tail neatly around her paws to wait and see if she got lucky today.

Well, if today wasn't his lucky day! His mentor was out for a patrol and he'd finished all his chores extra early, leaving not a single flea on Mistfeather's pelt. It meant that he pretty much had the entire morning to do what he wanted! If he wasn't caught slacking off and doing anything mouse-brained, anyways. His bright eyes flickered around the camp, spotting a lonely lump out of the corner of his eye. The tom easily recognized the shape of Flowerpaw.

Admittedly, he was a bit nervous to say anything to her. She was near a warrior herself and he hadn't been in the apprentices den quite so long. She was older and stronger, and sort of pretty, and he didn't want to embarrass himself by trying to say hi... but it was a good day today, he could feel it. What did he have to lose?

"Hey, Flowerpaw!" The pale tabby padded over to her make-shift nest, tail held high. "You busy right now?"

The lilac she-cat tilted her head, her expression brightening. "Oh! No, I'm not doing anything. I don't really have a mentor so I just tag along where I can... What are you up to?"
She laughed nervously, flicking her tail.

The tom shrugged, glancing around camp again, towards the entrance this time. "Nothing now. Thinking I wanna sneak out." His tail lashed in a bit of excitement. "Wanna come with me? We could go hunting or something." He was eager to practice and to totally-not show off his mad skills. If he even had them.

Flowerpaw nodded eagerly, glancing around before lowering her voice in a conspiratorial tone.
"Maybe if we go out and catch some prey, we can show them that we're ready to become warriors!"
She got to her feet eagerly, her mint-green eyes shining with excitement. "Let's go,"

He felt the fur on the back of his neck prickle up in excitement at the very idea! Mallowpaw dreamed of nothing more than being the best warrior that he could be! Pumped up now with his fellow apprentice, he bounded off towards the exit, practically flying over the camp streams. "Race you to the deep waters!" He shouted, holding back a laugh and making a dash for it.

"That's not fair- you had a head start!" The she-cat raced after him, laughing. She leapt over riverbanks, splashing through the shallower ones as she raced after Mallowpaw.

She eventually caught up to him. She was much smaller than the usual apprentice, and although this was a disadvantage in battle, it made her a fast runner for a Riverclanner. She ran next to him, shouldering him sideways playfully.
