Nightkit and Sootkit's Apprentice Ceremony

Leopardstar climbed the Jaggedrock again, tail swishing behind him. He looked out over the camp and called the summons. "Let all cats old enough to capture their own prey join here beneath the Jaggedrock for a clan meeting!"

Sootkit swaggered out of the den, all to proud of himself, even though he knew he hadn't done anything yet. That was no matter. Once he became an apprentice, he would be one of the best warriors yet.

Nightkit followed behind her brother, scoffing at the way he walked. She couldn't wait to become an apprentice. Well, kind of. She couldn't wait to outshine her brother, but other than that, the prospect of hunting and training everyday was not an appealing one. Never the less, she followed her brother and sat in front of Leopardstar.

Leopardfang looked at the pair of kits, amused. "Nightkit, Sootkit, step forward. You have reached the age of six moons and it is time for you to begin your training. From this day forward, you will be known as Nightpaw and Sootpaw. Nightpaw, Duneclaw will be your mentor. I trust he will teach you loyalty and honor. Sootpaw, Smokestripe will be your mentor. I hope you will learn patience and trust from him." He said and finished the ceremony.

Smokestripe had been watching the ceremony with interest, his tail curled around his paws with a flicker of pride that the Clan was growing so much. However he jolted as he heard his name ring across the clearing, on his paws in an instance as his eyes glimmered. While he had his paws full trying to finish up Yewpaw's training, he found himself excited with the prospect of getting another apprentice. Besides, Yewpaw was going to be a warrior almost any day now. On quick paws, he padded across the clearing until he was standing before Sootpaw, craning his neck to touch noses with the newly named apprentice with bright yellow eyes.

Sootpaw gave a smug smile to Nightpaw as he touched noses with his new mentor, Smokestripe. "So," he said to his mentor, "how soon will I be a warrior?"

"You will be a warrior as soon as I deem you fit to be one," Smokestripe purred back playfully as he pulled away from the nose touch, his eyes glimmering. He straighten himself up, beaming down at his new apprentice. "I expect you to listen to everything I have to say and carry out any orders I give you. Do that and you should be a warrior in no time," he added with a grin. "Training will start tomorrow, alright? Give you enough time to settle into the apprentice den."
