Wings of Fire

Come close my little dragonets let me tell you a tale about our ancestors and their hardships. Now of course it might look bad now with the war happening right outside our cave. But do you know how this war all started?" The very old dragon crackled as she moved closer to the young dragonets as they looked up to her with those wide innocent terrified eyes.

"Well I will tell you a tale of how it all started...I remember like it was yesterday, one by one young dragons older then yourselfs appeared throughout the Nightwing kingdom died their throats ripped out of them." She blinked as the dragonets eyes got wide, "Its okay, its okay little ones. Come closer." Inviting the younger ones closer to her they huddled around her thin now fragile frame lifting her wings to give them protection. "Now who would do that you are properly asking yourself, well a group of young dragonets such as all of you asked the same question and made it their goal to save their kingdom from these horrors. Now why would it involve the other kingdoms you might ask, well the one that was murdering one of their own had a plan. A devilish plan. One that would tear down all of the kingdoms and bring them bowing to their paws. And as you properly guess even though the one behind that plan is long gone they left with a smile on their bloody fangs for they know their plan has succeed. Even if they won the battle they lost the fight, their fighting was for nothing as you can see before you it was for not. But who knows their souls might have been reborn into you all..."

She closed her night black eyes and signed deeply, "Now little ones let us fly, let us fly off and hid from this war. You are too precious to lose, but on the way I will tell you all the tale in detail, after all you will need to know the cause of this battle that you all will get dragged into." Opening her deep black wings she padded to the entrance then slowly more and more of the dragonets came out of the tunnel to follow her. Her eyes were filled with sadness as she guided them to her new home and she started the tale from the very beginning with a deep raspy breath.

Starwatcher stalked back and forth in the small cavern, his tail whipping as he marched from wall to wall. This particular cavern was old, mostly out of use--the only dragons that went there were young ones off exploring, or elder dragons that needed a place to think.

He was one of the latter.

He felt stuffed in there, but it felt like it was the only quiet place in all of the Kingdom, so here he padded back and forth and back. He felt sick to his stomach, tossing thoughts over in his mind. Queen Pomegranate's mate had been killed a few years ago, he knew.. and a few months ago her dragonets followed. Now, less than a week ago, a young NightWing had been found dead. And a promising one, to say the least. The cave suddenly seemed full of his sickly thoughts, so he lead himself out through a thin tunnel, coming to emerge in a wide, hollow cave, the roof of it gone, allowing easy access out into the world.

He had to find the Queen, he knew, but she'd been.. defensive about the deaths, never engaging him about it. Shaking his head, he found himself trekking down another tunnel system, heading for her chambers.

Dreamhunter didn't especially want to fight, but she knew she must. She was a NightWing guard, and it was her solemn duty to do whatever was needed to keep her queen and kingdom safe. It wasn't that she was against that, it was only that she wished it didn't involve as much bloodshed. She hoped there wouldn't be anymore need to fight anytime soon, but she knew that there was never peace for long.


Marigold was a bit worried about all the deaths she had been hearing about lately. As queen, she always heard about these sort of things, and usually the didn't result in much battle. She hoped for the same about these bunch of deaths.

Air soared through the air, his massive wings unfolded as he drifted to and fro along the air. He had a bright smile on his face he always loved flying like this. No one else understood him though when he tried explaining it. After all they loved the water, they were SeaWings he was half SeaWing. He had heard his mother was a SkyWing but who knows he has never meet one in his life. Looking around at the scenery as he passed it he signed deeply his smile fading. The other SeaWings used to not care about him he can disappear in the middle of the night and nobody would even bat a eye towards it. But since that NightWing was found dead recently and because of that everyone was thinking about Queen Pomegranate of the RainWing about how her mate and dragonets died mysteriously a few years back they were concerned about every dragon going out by themselves. He just wished he was out there in the world not stuck in this hell of a sea. He wanted to be free to go where ever he wants....

Stormflare grinned as she saw her servants scamper about trying to follow her instructions, their fear so plainly on their faces. It was good to feel like she was important even if it means being Queen of this stupid kingdom. Eventually she grew bored watching these dragons hurry around like ants and yawned loudly. The servants froze then looked to her their faces showing even more fear. They knew that when she was bored it did not mean good news to them. Normally a dragon or two will lose their lives because of her boredom. "Get me a random prisoner, I want to fight." She yawned again as she headed towards the open roof her black wings unfolded as she flew to the arena.

"Air! What are you doing out here alone?" The SeaWing emerged from the sea upon hearing the one he had been searching for. Pelican rose into the air and faced the dragonet, annoyance clear on his face. "I have better things to do than looking for you! Why do you insist on doing what you're not allowed to do? It's for your own safety," he added after realizing how harsh he was being.

Dreamhunter heard the queen's request and ducked into a different passageway. She didn't want to have to help bring a prisoner out, and didn't want to see her queen kill them. She wished that Stormflare would be nicer, but unfortunately she didn't have a say in things. Dreamhunter knew that if she ever rose to power, she would not spend her time killing for fun.

Starwatcher pressed through the tunnels anxiously, his wings pressed close to his body. He could hear voices, the scrambling of claws, and.. Stormflare. The thought struck him like a rock, and he burst through into the special cave just as smaller dragons started rushing off. "Queen! Queen, Stormflare, please, we don't have time for tournaments right now," his voice got quieter as he got closer, and eventually he pressed up close enough so he could whisper without worry of a servant overhearing. "Stormflare, something needs to be done about the dragonet we lost. We can't just.. just let this go. I think.. I think we should meet, meet with the RainWings.. all of the Tribes, so they all know." He spoke in a rush, seeming anxious the more his sentence continued on.


Queen Pomegranate stretched her wings up towards the sky, her scales flushing lilac and bright pink and bolts of gold. Below her, all her dragons were doing the same: wings open to soak up the sun, rolled over on their backs, their bellies light, vibrant colours. She started to smile at them, pleased with how content they were. How safe they were.. unlike her mate, her dragonets. Her face turned cold and sour, and she thought about the young NightWing who had turned up dead. She lowered her head, trying to keep her scales warm and friendly in colour, but they flashed nasty black and browns and she tore her claws through the palm leaves below her, shredding the ones that weren't holding her up.

Stormflare was about to tell off any dragon who made her stop in her tracks until she saw her second in command, Starwatcher. He was the only dragon she cares about in this forsaken kingdom. And he was defiantly the only one that she won't punish for telling her what to do. Her eyes turned to slits at his proposal, that sounds interesting.. So many possibilities could happen if all the Tribes got together..."Fine, Starwatcher. I like your idea. " she waved her claw at him, "Get everything ready."

Oh no some dragon found him. He signed deeply as he looked down to see Pelican then he blinked as he rose to face him. "Nobody cares about my safety! I would rather be up here then in that slimy water but of course you won't understand! Nobody does...and your just worried about that NightWing that got killed no dragon cared about me before that!"

The sun was just starting to rise when the other dragons started to come in. The dawn sky seemed black with them; IceWings and SeaWings from far away, a few straggling MudWings and SandWings. Dragons that couldn't be counted, almost making it seem like night.

It had been a good week or more since Queen Pomegranate had opened her territory to the NightWings, and had called for the rest of the dragons of Pyrrhia to join them there. The NightWings and the RainWings hadn't been overly friendly, but neither had they been cruel. The whole rain forest seemed silent with anticipation.

Mooncloud, of course, was thrilled.

She was one of the few NightWings willing to converse with the RainWings. She was young, and she hadn't seen anything except for her scrolls and rock and rock and lava. It was boring and most important it was bleak. But the forest, the RainWing village.. there was never a moment of silence, and she was surrounded by colour. She'd found it overwhelming at first, but she'd loved it, too. Now she just needed to get really good at making friends, because she could barely manage a hello before getting scared.

Right now, she was curled in the hut of a RainWing about her age, although her partner was currently absent. She ran her claw delicately over a weary, yellowed old scroll, whispering familiar words to herself. She had to wonder why they were here.. she guessed it was because of the NightWing who died. He was older than her, and mean and boastful; she'd never liked him, but she was still sad he had died. Sighing, the little dragonet made her way into the opening, raising her head to watch dragons fled in.


Slug couldn't imagine a better kingdom than this one. The Mud Kingdom was great, he loved it, but the RainWing's kingdom.. his stomach rumbled just at the thought. All their mud was far, far below the treetop huts they lived in, but oh, the food. Since the majority of the MudWings had gotten there, they'd been fed fruits he didn't even know existed, and constantly, too. Other tribes caught monkeys from the trees, and overall he couldn't be happier. The only thing that had unsettled him was the fierce, clouded gaze Queen Pomegranate watched them with, and the anxious way an older NightWing circled around Queen Stormflare almost constantly.

Dreamhunter was pretty much thrilled at having the tournament canceled. Even though it meant that soon she might soon have to accompany her queen as protection for the meeting with the RainWings, that had less possible outcomes of death than the first option. Or at least she hoped that was true.

"Air! I came out here for only two reasons, and the main one was for your safety! Of course we're worried about that NightWing, do you think I want SeaWings to start disappearing too? And though I can't say I had any reason to find you before, I know there are many dragons that care for you, and would be very depressed if you died! Now follow me without arguing!" Pelican scolded the dragonet, wanting to get back to his more important job as soon as possible.

Even though Air was severely underage to be going outside his Tribe and if anyone finds him he would be punished for a long time he did not care one bit. His eyes were wild as he tried looking everywhere at once. The beauty of the place widened his eyes it was two times as beautiful then the ocean that was for sure. All the plants and animals made him gasp, how could he ever go back underwater when the outside world above the sea was so much gorgeous!


Queen Stormflare flew in with the rest of the NightWings making sure they all look presentable for their hosts. She looked on with disgust though at the foul MudWings and IceWings not even bothering to glance they're direction. But she had to keep up her smile remembering her mother's instructions. Meeting with Queen Pomegranate made her want to gag she seemed so aloaf with her head in the clouds she couldn't stand it.

"Eh-hem. We're going back now, Air, so follow me please. I don't have all day for this," Pelican remarked, agitated by the stubbornness of the half SkyWing dragonet. He splashed back into the sea, still looking back to make sure that Air was following him and not doing even more daydreaming.

Dreamhunter kept her nervousness at bay as she followed along with the other guards, making sure to look her best to preserve NightWing pride, or whatever Queen Stormflare's reason was.
