Brackenkit's Apprentice Ceremony

Ashstar leapt onto the Tallrock. "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather underneath the Tallrock for a Clan meeting!" she yowled commandingly.

Brackenkit tumbled out of the nursery, fur ruffled from playing with Icepaw, even though he was an apprentice already. He had been six moons for a while, but for some reason his ceremony had been postponed. He hoped this would finally be his moment, so he could begin training to be a warrior.

Ashstar nodded approvingly at the young kit. "Brackenkit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Brackenpaw. Your mentor will be Ryecloud. I hope he will pass down all he knows on to you."

Sitting near the back of the crowd, Ryecloud's ears perked up when his name was called. He had been given an apprentice? Though he'd been a warrior for a while now, the tom hadn't been given an apprentice yet, and while part of his was excited, the other part of him was scared. What if he wasn't a good enough mentor? What if Brackenpaw didn't learn all that was supposed to be taught because of his slight slowness?

Shaking away the thoughts, the grey and white tom heaved himself up onto his three working legs and limped up to the front of the crowd, dragging his limp hind-leg behind him. Touching noses with Brackenpaw, he lifted his head and looked down to his new apprentice. "I hant vait to star traibing wif you," he mewed while attempting to muster up a smile, his underdeveloped jaw causing him trouble when trying to speak.

Brackenkit smiled at the warrior before him, his older half-brother. "I can't wait either." He gave a little smile and touched noses with his new mentor, he would be the best warrior ever.
