Jaypaw couldn't help but be proud of himself when Magpiewing said that he would be his mentor. The tom had no idea what Magpiewing saw in him but Jaypaw had promised himself that he would not let Magpiewing down! After all he didn't want to be a dissapointment he wanted to show Magpiewing how much he was capable of! The apprentice puffed out his chest, he was sure that Magpiewing would teach him so much valuable lessons he couldn't wait to get started. The grey tom walked into the clearing of camp. "Magpiewing?" He called out looking for his mentor.

Magpiewing's ears perked up from his nest as he heard his name called. The voice itself was all too familiar. Without hesitation the deputy jumped out of the moss and straw, shaking his black fur furiously before leaving the den. His eyes caught the back of the grey tom in an instant.

The word father nearly broke from his mouth but he held his tongue. This wasn't his father, even if StarClan willed it so. With a hint of disappointment in his heart, the tom padded up to the apprentice with a somewhat forced smile. "Yes Jaycla-- J..Jaypaw?" Mousedung. Shrugging it off quickly and rather awkwardly, the tom returned to his normal composure. This was his apprentice. Who happened to look, sound, and act just like his long deceased father. Nothing out of the ordinary.
