The Irony of Time~

Nights were restless again, and she was never comfortable. Willowwhisker knew what was going on. And she hated to admit it as well. But, she couldn't just hide it from the clan. They would know, and she hoped it wouldn't be a big deal. She was only adopted, after all. It wasn't like she was raised to be his child, she was raised as a dear friend. And no less. She sighed as she padded over to where the warriors slept, picking him out from the crowd. It was early in the morning, and he was usually awake. But the times had been rough, and she understood that. When she finally spotted him, she stepped over what seemed to be an endless amount of cats, some of which were her own family. She looked around after every silent step, her footsteps echoing in the gray, dark light. But to her amusement, not other cat awoke. When she finally arrived at the now senior warriors side, she prodded softly at his side. Stooping to whisper in his ear, her raspy voice continued."Wake up." She pulled her head away, waiting for him to get up. The loud silence rang in her ears, and she felt the beginning of what would end up being a terrible headache.

With all that had been going on, Smokepelt had never slept better. After his day of utterly boring warrior work, the tom had crashed in his nest, but unfortunately, his peaceful slumber didn't last as long as he would've hoped. Mumbling inaudible words under his breath, the grey and white tom lifted his head and gave a yawn. Who in their right mind would wake a cat up at this hour? The sun was barely even up yet!

Sleepily turning his head around, he realized who he was looking up to. Willowwhisker. Confused and tired, the tom stood up, wondering what she could possibly need to talk to him about at this hour. Now that he wasn't deputy and didn't have many apprentices, rarely anyone ever came to him anymore, and while sometimes he'd become overwhelmed by the constant flow of questions, comments, and concerns, he had to admit that he missed it all.

Padding past out of the warrior's sleeping area so that he wouldn't wake anyone up, his eyes still fuzzy and his muscles soar from sleeping so tense, Smokepelt turned around to face his adopted daughter, who in the end had been more of a very close friend than a family member. "What is it?" the tall, lean tom mewed in his usual soft tone while trying to hide his slight annoyance, and while they stood in the quiet, dark, camp clearing, he gave his hind legs a stretch as he waited for Willowwhisker to explain to him why they were both awake so early. It wasn't that he minded spending time with her, but like all living things, he needed his rest, especially when his emotions had been all out of wack lately, and her waking him up like this hadn't really been on his to-do list.

"I, uh, we need to talk. Come along. We'll patrol the borders while we're at it." She began padding towards the entrance to the territory, not waiting for a reply. When she was out in the open, she stretched her legs, waiting for Smokepelt.

Hearing the uncertainty in her voice made Smokepelt even more confused, but he didn't question it and trotted out of the camp after her. Catching up to Willowwhisker, Smokepelt let out a yawn and gave his pelt a shake. Once the tom was awake, there was no going back to sleep, so today was definitely going to be a long day. "So, you wanted to talk with me?" he asked in a questioning tone and tilted his head to the side in a curious sort of manner. Well, what ever she had to say must have been pretty important, seeing that she wanted to chat this early, and although he tried to stay looking un-annoyed, he wanted answers.

"So, um, you know things have been going on..." She dipped her head, hoping he would know what she was talking about. If he didn't, Starclan help them. Her pelt began to grow hot, so she pushed away the thought. His demotion meant nothing to her, and she still loved him the same as she did before, despite the fact that she was his adoptive daughter. Although, she thought, he would do better as a regular warrior. Not as much stress, and overall an easier life. This out to be fun. She hoped no one else found out about her pregnancy with Smokepelts kits, She would have a peaceful life, she knew it. rip Willow

IC: Padding next to the she-cat, Smokepelt’s ears perked up when she spoke. So much had been going on lately that what she meant almost slipped his mind, but it soon came to him. "Yes, things have been going on," he started softly, in his usual stoic tone of voice and looked down to Willowwhisker. "But I'm assuming you mean what has been going on between us, correct?" the warrior added, raising a non existent brow and fear grabbed hold of his chest. Was the reason for their little chat this early in the morning to tell him something tragic? With all that had been happening, he wouldn’t have been surprised if she told him that Ashstar found out about the two of them and was going to exile him.

"Um, yeah." She blushed, her head sinking between her shoulders. The thought of it, Smokepelt and herself, was... odd. Although they were not technically related, she felt terrible. Hazefur and Goatshade would be on her hide, and it was only a one-time thing, although she didn't know that. At the time she was only thinking of herself and Smokepelt, not either one of his existing mates."I-I don't know if this is a good thing or no-" She was going to continue, but an odd noise has grabbed her attention."Did you hear that?" She half whispered to Smokepelt. She immediately crouched to the ground without a sound, her ears perked in case she heard it again.

Thought I'd letcha know, this isn't 'the big moment', rather just a little false alarm to kinda get them on their toes, if ya know what I mean ;)

Listening to her, it was obvious that she was unsure of how to handle the both of them, and while he wished that he was able to comfort her better, he just stood there, as silent and awkward as ever. Why did words come so naturally to him when he was with Goatpaw? He loved Willowwhisker as well, so what was going on with him?

After a few moments of silently questioning himself, the dark grey and white tom opened his slightly crooked jaw to speak, but Willowwhisker suddenly crouched down. Lowering himself to the earth to join her, Smokepelt perked his ears. "You heard something?" he whispered, listening intently to the moor. He hadn't heard anything out of the ordinary, but still trusted her word that something might be out there, so he stayed quiet, preparing himself for anything.
