Thunderstorms on Clear Nights [Open]

A young, small kit was making his way through the dense undergrowth; he eyes were round as he peered around, following the shifting shadows, stirring up leaves under his feet and brushing through the bushes. Crickets were chirping as well, creating a lovely, steady sound that he loved to listen to. He had no idea where he was heading--his mother had told him to keep walking until he found somewhere safe. He had no idea what she was doing, only that he had spent the majority of the night walking steadily onward, following the sound of crickets, walking with the wind that stirred his fur. He had walked beside a river for awhile, and over a tall, chilly pile of rocks with bitter-tasting herbs growing between them. Now, he was deep in a forest, surrounded by strange scents, and sounds he had never heard.
He jumped at the sound of a bird overhead--a strange looking bird flew overhead, flapping dark, thin wings wildly and flying in an erratic pattern. Energy coursed through his paws and he raced through the forest, eyes skyward, trying to keep up with the odd-looking bird. It was emitting an odd squeaking sound, which mingled with the sound of the leaves under his paws and the crickets. Shadows flew by him as he ran, but he had no idea how far he went, completely distracted by the sounds of the forest and the creature he was following. He purred happily when he eventually came to a stop, having lost sight of it. He hoped that, the next night, he would see it again, and find out where it was going. For the time being, however, he had come to something entirely new. There was a strong scent in the air that he didn't recognize, and he began following it, eventually coming to a dip in the ground--it reminded him of a stream, except there was no water. He decided to investigate, wondering where the water had gone, but as he made his way down, he found himself blocked by a thick wall of brambles. He poked it experimentally, and let out a mew of pain and surprise as his pad was pricked by a thorn.

Sunkit snickered as she ran through the camp. She had taken to sneaking out at night, rather than being pushed around by her brother everywhere, eventually she sat down in a patch of moonlight and watched the camp excitedly, filled with an overwhelming sense of freedom.

Hawkkit peered out the den at the two, his ears rotated forward and he bounced after them. He smelled purely of rouge but, he was trying his hardest to fit in with the others. The freshkill pile was low and be figured that no one would complain if he dragged one of the squashed squirrels into the nursery for a meal. Like his mother, he had a place in his heart for the prey. When he trotted over to it, his attention was brought back to the others where one of the kits made a pained noise. He ran over with his pale eyes wide and stared up at the bramble wall and then down to the kit. "What happened?" He mewed, tilting his head, the large kit searched for some sort of problem.

The kit looked up with round, fascinated eyes, as though the large cat peering down at him was infinitely interesting, the moonlight reflecting in them, making their yellow-green color seem even paler than normal. Ignoring the question entirely, he immediately launched into asking his own questions, propelled by insatiable curiosity. "Who are you?" He asked, flicking his tale excitedly, "Where are we? Is there such thing as a stream with no water? That's what this place looks like. Did you know birds can make funny squeaking sounds, like a mouse? It's cute!" As he spoke, he got to his paws and turned in a quick circle, not much feeling like sitting still; his body was slender, and he had fairly long legs. About now, if his mother was there, she would have told him that it was impolite to ask so many questions, and tell him that if ought to seek out the answers himself. For now, though, he was engaged in a conversation, and wouldn't it be more impolite to leave abruptly?

Sunkit padded up, her head tilted in interest. "Where are you from?" She mewed, delighted in having found a new friend. "Are you hungry? I have some food. Are you tired?"

"Sunkit, Hawkkit. Who's this?" Asked a frighteningly scarred and tall tom, a limp to his step from a rather fresh wound on his shoulder and fresh scratches across his solemn face. Green eyes looked down wearily at the rogue kit, worry suddenly prickling his fur. If the kit had parents they could cause some damage to the barriers, and if a kit could find the camp then any cat could! "Where are your parents?" He mewed, speaking of parents it was unlikely that the kit had more than one; then a sudden and jarring memory surfaced to the forefront of his mind, making him step back before tossing his head and looking back down at the kit.

Sunkit jumped, turning to the warrior. "I dunno. He came out of the bushes and he's really nice!" She turned to the kit with a warm smile. Although she had only met him moments before, the little golden she-kit counted him among her friends.

Star's attention was quickly captured by another cat--a cat much older than him, this time. "I don't know." He mewed, as though it was a completely inconsequential thing to say, "I've been walking for ages. Where are we? Who are you? How did you hurt yourself?" The tom he was speaking to was large, and Star could see hard muscle beneath his fur. The other kit he had been speaking to before the tom approached seemed startled by him, but not scared, he observed--if she wasn't scared of him, then Star figured that he had no reason to be, either.
