Kit Adventures (OPEN TO ALL)

Sparrowkit narrowed her eyes at the leaf in front of her, wiggling her tail in the air excitedly. With a mighty roar (not really, more of a squeak) she pounced into the lead, shredding it to bits with her tiny claws. "Ha! No prey can escape me, the mighty Sparrowstar!" She yowled playfully, bounding around the sandy area outside the Nursery.

Blazingpaw sighed as he laid in the sun, dozing outside the apprentices den. He noticed a flash of brown tabby fur, and looked around to where Falconkit was playing. He imagined what it would be like to become a kit again, and then shook it off. This life was much better for him. He padded over to the tiny she-kit, and batted the leaf bits into the air. They fell down like raindrops, and Blazingpaw looked down at her. "Hey!" he greeted, "I'm a new apprentice. My name's Blazingpaw."

Sparrowkit looked up at the apprentice, grinning. "Hi Blazingpaw! I'm Sparrowkit!" She mewed happily, bouncing up and down. "What's the forest like? Is it cool?" The brown kitten asked excitedly.

Slightly startled by her quick response, he smiled and pointed to the endless trees surrounding them. "Right now it's newleaf," he explained, "That means all the snow is melting and the plants are growing again. All the mice and shrews were snuggled up in their dens, but now they are coming out." He grabbed a clump of wet moss near the warriors den, and started shaping it with his furry paws. He passed her the moss-ball, then realised he should be looking for something to do. "Hey - have you seen a pretty she-cat walking around anywhere?" he asked the kit, wondering where his mentor was.

Sparrowkit cocked her head. "Huh? I dunno. I don't really notice warriors, they don't notice me." She meowed with a shrug, looking around the camp curiously.

"Ok, well then that's fine," he replied, slightly disappointed. "Hey - will you use that?" he questioned, pawing his make-shift moss-ball.

You've got to put yourself out there, it's the only way!

Falconkit repeatedly told himself. The "job" of playing was his, he'd try to help apprentices if it wasn't for his fear. His mother's murder stuck to his mind at all times but, the rouge slowly began to blend in. He still smelled different and was without a mother at night in the nursery. He was constantly covered in scratches from sleeping in the brambles. The kit watched from the freshkill pile, his skinny body looked like a sickly mouse as he observed the two with bleak yellow eyes.

Finally noticing the mossball, Sparrowkit pounced with a cute little yelp, rolling into Falconkit on accident. The brown tabby kitten looked up at the kit with a grin, still laying on the ground. "Hi! I'm Sparrowkit!" She meweled excitedly, flicking her tail as she stood up, mossball at her paws. "Wanna play?" She asked the kitten curiously.

Blazingpaw watched as Sparrowkit bumped into the frail kit sitting next to the fresh-kill pile. He had the same kind of bleakness in his eyes that reminded him of the dark forest-empty, lonely, abandoned. He shivered, then scanned their bony form. They looked sick. Blazingpaw padded over to them, feeling worried. "Are.. you okay?" he asked, concerned. If the kit was suffering from illness, he would need to be taken to the medicine den immediately. Kits and elders have the highest chance of dying. That was a quote he remembered from his mentor, Morningshine. He wished she was around more.

Falconkit looked at the moss with uncertainty, "I.. don't know how..." He meowed quietly almost silent. His eyes flickered to Blazingpaw. "Y-yes, I'm f-fine." The kit was embarrassed that he looked so pitiful, his mother's death had taken his appetite away entirely, he ate very little. It didn't help that he still felt like he had to earn his meals. He lapped at a cut on his paw where the brambles were caught that morning and avoided everyone's gazes now.

"Oh, I didn't mean to embarrass you! I can show you how to play!" Sparrowkit apologized, poking the mossball towards the kit with her nose. "Would you like that?" She asked kindly, smiling.

Smudgekit crouched down at the entrance to the nursery, his tail and haunches stuck in the barrier around it. His gaze flitted from one cat to the next. His black pelt helped him blend in with the shadows, going mostly unnoticed by any of his clanmates. He was a small kit, smaller than any of his denmates, even the ones that were younger than him. His small frame made him cower and shrink down even smaller when other cats were around. He was very shy, and preferred to just watch others. He wouldn't have to speak to other cats, letting them hear his stutter. He also wouldn't have to play any sort of kit games, which he was afraid he would be bad at. Instead he just watched sparrowkit trying to convince falconkit to play mossball.
